Download or read book Legal Aspects of HIV/AIDS written by and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2007 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is an invaluable resource for lawyers, policy makers, and other practitioners with an interest in countries' responses to HIV/AIDS. Legal Aspects of HIV/AIDS: A Guide for Policy and Law Reform covers 65 wide-ranging topics in a concise, accessible format, explaining how laws and regulations can either underpin or undermine public health programs and responsible personal behavior. For each topic, the Guide summarizes the key legal or policy issues, provides relevant "practice examples" (citing actual laws and regulations), and offers a selective list of references that may be consulted for more information. Laws relating to many areas of our lives - from intimate physical conduct to international travel - can contribute to stigma, discrimination, and exclusion or, contrariwise, can help remedy these inequities. In order to create a supportive legal framework for responding to HIV/AIDS, it is important that governments effectively address gaps and other problematic aspects in their legislation and regulatory systems. This book, written by a team of leading legal experts, helps them do so.

Book Synopsis Guidelines for Diagnosing and Managing Disseminated Histoplasmosis Among People Living with HIV by : Pan American Pan American Health Organization
Download or read book Guidelines for Diagnosing and Managing Disseminated Histoplasmosis Among People Living with HIV written by Pan American Pan American Health Organization and published by . This book was released on 2020-06-18 with total page 56 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Histoplasmosis is a disease caused by the fungus Histoplasma capsulatum. This disease is highly endemic in some regions of North America, Central America, and South America and is also reported in certain countries of Asia and Africa. It often affects people with impaired immunity, including people living with HIV, among whom the most frequent clinical presentation is disseminated histoplasmosis. The symptoms of disseminated histoplasmosis are non-specific and may be indistinguishable from those of other infectious diseases, especially disseminated tuberculosis (TB), thus complicating diagnosis and treatment. Histoplasmosis is one of the most frequent opportunistic infections caused by fungal pathogens among people living with HIV in the Americas and may be responsible for 5-15% of AIDS-related deaths every year in this Region. These guidelines aim to provide recommendations for the diagnosis, treatment, and management of disseminated histoplasmosis in persons living with HIV. Although the burden of disease is concentrated in the Americas, the recommendations presented within these guidelines are applicable globally. These guidelines were produced in accordance with the World Health Organization (WHO) handbook for guideline development. The Guideline Development Group elaborated the final recommendations based on a systematic review of scientific literature and critical evaluation of the evidence available using the Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development, and Evaluation (GRADE) approach. These guidelines are intended for health-care providers, HIV program managers, policy-makers, national treatment advisory boards, researchers, and other professionals involved in caring for people who either have or may be at risk of developing disseminated histoplasmosis.

Book Synopsis Developing Effective Policies for HIV/AIDS Education practice in Sub Saharan Africa: The Case of Urban Schools of Malawi: A synergy of pupils needs, policies and practice by : Paul Makocho
Download or read book Developing Effective Policies for HIV/AIDS Education practice in Sub Saharan Africa: The Case of Urban Schools of Malawi: A synergy of pupils needs, policies and practice written by Paul Makocho and published by diplom.de. This book was released on 2014-11-01 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: HIV/AIDS has been named the Sub Saharan disease. In countries that have achieved significant declines in HIV prevalence, young people have registered the biggest behavioural changes. It means they hold the keys not only to our understanding of the epidemic, but more importantly, to the efforts required to stem the tide of infections. However, the majority of young people are ignorant of how to prevent transmission, have low compliance to condom use, which is in some cases accentuated by misconceptions about HIV/AIDS transmission and have insufficient knowledge regarding transmission and avoidance behaviours. As such, consensus on feasible preventive interventions target young people, particularly those in schools. It is on this premise that the book unlocks the key pillars in effective HIV/AIDS education policies and practices. The study has drawn upon the experiences of selected Urban Schools in Malawi to explore the needs of young people in classroom, the extent to which the classroom practices respond to the needs, and the factors influencing these using questionnaires, interviews, lesson observations, and document analysis. Malawi typically represents most Sub Saharan African countries in terms of challenges faced by education systems. Given the similar cultural settings of the people of Sub Saharan Africa, the findings and recommendations of the study generalises to the education systems of Sub Saharan Africa to a greater extent. The book shows the need for open discussion climates on HIV/AIDS issues despite a conservative cultural and religious adult world that is not open. It has also identified a need for explicit and accurate knowledge on HIV/AIDS issues, opportunities to acquire behavioural skills for HIV prevention, and involvement of external speakers in classroom HIV/AIDS education.Current classroom practice does not address the pupils‘ needs adequately. Factors influencing this can be linked to lack of policies responsive to culture and religion, ineffective and inadequate teaching policy guidelines, and lack of a policy prioritising HIV/AIDS education. The findings suggest that in future, effective HIV/AIDS Education needs to be informed by the pupils’ needs. To address these needs, support from the wider society and related policies, coupled with appropriate management and classroom practice will be required. The book is therefore an indispensable tool for education systems in Sub Saharan Africa. It provides an effective model for [...]
Book Synopsis HIV and AIDS by : Simon Uchenna Ortuanya
Download or read book HIV and AIDS written by Simon Uchenna Ortuanya and published by African Books Collective. This book was released on 2023-05-05 with total page 529 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a detailed and timely analysis of key regulatory and legal issues arising in the context of HIV and AIDS. The ten chapters cover the core issues central to an understanding of law and public health as concerns AIDS. Whilst the book focuses on how Nigerian law applies to HIV and AIDS, the author draws heavily on materials from other jurisdictions. There are many parallels that exist between the application of law and governance considerations in the AIDS pandemic that resonate with other infectious diseases including Covid-19, therefore the book is widely relevant to public health law in communicable disease contexts. Topics covered: overview and origin of the HIV and AIDS epidemic; legal and institutional framework of the HIV and AIDS epidemic in Nigeria; human rights and the epidemic; decriminalisation of HIV and AIDS in Nigeria; HIV and AIDS and vulnerable groups; HIV and AIDS and patents; HIV and AIDS and sports; international organisations and programmes on HIV; judicial responses to HIV and AIDS; and global pandemics and control.
