Download or read book Consolations written by David Whyte and published by Canongate Books. This book was released on 2019-11-07 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Consolations David Whyte unpacks aspects of being human that many of us spend our lives trying vainly to avoid - loss, heartbreak, vulnerability, fear - boldly reinterpreting them, fully embracing their complexity, never shying away from paradox in his relentless search for meaning. Beginning with 'Alone' and closing with 'Withdrawal', each piece in this life-affirming book is a meditation on meaning and context, an invitation to shift and broaden our perspectives on life: pain and joy, honesty and anger, confession and vulnerability, the experience of feeling overwhelmed and the desire to run away from it all. Through this lens, procrastination may be a necessary ripening; hiding an act of freedom; and shyness something that accompanies the first stage of revelation. Consolations invites readers into a poetic and thoughtful consideration of words whose meaning and interpretation influence the paths we choose and the way we traverse them throughout our lives.

Book excerpt: In trailblazing poet, essayist, teacher and activist June Jordan's poems, love is a vision of revolutionary solidarity, crossing borders both emotional and literal with an outstretched hand. Haruko traces the faltering arc of a passionate love affair with another woman while Love Poems encompasses relationships with men and women, political resistance, the need for self-care in a demanding, uncaring world and apocalyptic visions of the eruption of Mount Vesuvius that destroyed Pompeii and Herculaneum. A contemporary of Alice Walker, Toni Morrison and Audre Lorde, June Jordan's spectacular poetry remains profoundly politically potent, lyrically inventive and breathtakingly romantic. First published in 1994, Haruko/ Love poems is a vitally important modern classic.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Poems of Love, Struggle, and Change By: Merredith F. Perkins Ph.D. If someone had said to her twenty-five years ago that she would be living the life she’s living, Merredith F. Perkins, Ph.D. would have questioned his or her sanity. She would have been an ardent disbeliever. The fortune of writing was bestowed upon her a long time ago, but she did not know that twenty-five years of reflective writing and her poems would show up in a book at this stage of her life. In her golden years, Dr. Perkins is writing and sharing her poetry with the public to show that we all have a lot in common and that we all stumble humbly through our life’s journey. In taking stock of her life and understanding a little bit of what her life has been for, she is learning that the puzzle pieces were being laid on a path long before she arrived at that path. Poems of Love, Struggle, and Change is a collection of poetic expressions on topics about love in relationships, struggling with expressions of self-awareness, and engaging in the friction of self-discovery as a way to gauge internal and external explorations as life unfolds.

Download or read book Poems of Love and Hope written by A. Mann and published by Fulton Books, Inc.. This book was released on 2021-01-04 with total page 61 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After rereading a poem my husband had written to me for one of our wedding anniversaries many years ago, I thought, “Wow, this poem is so heartwarming! This, absolutely, needs to be published.” My vision had been to have it printed on one of the beautiful Hallmark or American Greeting cards for other husbands around the world to purchase and also bring enjoyment to their wives, whether for special occasions or just to show their appreciation for them. In my effort to “make it happen”, I obtained copyright and contacted the companies. To my disappointment, I learned that these companies employ their own writers and that material from outside sources is not accepted. Well, that information put a damper on my enthusiasm. In the meantime, since the poem had already been on public record through the copyright office, I was contacted by one of the self-publishing companies. Because of the fact that it was just one single poem, I was told that at least ten poems would be required to get them published as a book. “Well,” I thought, “let me ‘get to it,’” and I started (what better time than during this time of “social distancing” and extra time on hand?) writing my own poems. The poems were written with the purpose to spread the message that, even during this time of isolation and seemingly ever-present social unrest, love and hope still exist. With these poems, we want to provide encouragement and the assurance that not all is lost. Through poetry, we tell our personal love story and express our faith in God, a faith that produces hope for the present and the future. And we want others to know, that they can experience that same love and hope in their own lives too. 1
Book Synopsis Joy of Missing Out by : Ana Božičević
Download or read book Joy of Missing Out written by Ana Božičević and published by Birds. This book was released on 2017 with total page 94 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Poetry. Women's Studies. LGBTQIA Studies. JOY OF MISSING OUT is starlite verse on death and independence for the dreamers, dropouts, rebels and the neuroatypical. A confession and sublimation of breakdowns personal and systemic, JOY OF MISSING OUT paints a playful and unflinching portrait of the ups and downs of city survival and queer romance. Simultaneously it deploys online slang and high lyrical registers, morphs the sad girl into Baba Yaga, drops truth bombs on art and politics, and puts the sin into sincerity. Even as it engineers the death of its speaker, JOY OF MISSING OUT is a paradoxically joyous litany of her endurance and a boost-plea to stay in a messed-up world and say it out loud. This anthem is best read at night or dawn when no one's around for a Like or a kiss. "Ana Bozičević invents a new language of 21st century displacement: a displacement that occurs not just in space and in time but in heart, vision and mind. The poems in JOY OF MISSING OUT range from Croatian farm fields and embroidered dresses to life spent online, emoji, chain stores and drugs. Always: emotion. No filter, she writes. Bozičević is a master of the startling lyric: her poems transport, but they can also kick dirt in your face in the last line. Her casual poems are formidably informed and, also, great." --Chris Kraus
