Winner of a 2018 Catholic Press Association Award: Prayer Collections (First Place). and a 2018 Association of Catholic Publishers Award: Prayer & Spirituality (First Place). Some of Sr. Joyce Rupp’s most perennially popular books have been collections of her original prayers, blessings, poems, and reflections. In Prayer Seeds, the bestselling author and retreat leader offers almost a hundred new selections on a variety of themes such as the feasts and seasons of the liturgical year, compassion, ministry, difficult times, and important events—all suitable for personal or group prayer. People who attend Rupp’s retreats or workshops often approach her to ask for a copy of a prayer that she composed for the event. In 2000, she collected her prayers in the book Out of the Ordinary. In Prayer Seeds, Rupp follows up with about a hundred never-before-published prayers written since the publication of the first collection. The prayers are organized thematically. Rupp’s warmth and closeness to God along with her sensitivity to the joy and sadness of life make her an ideal prayer companion. Her prayers are like seed planted in your soul. Tended and watered by love, they will grow and bear a rich harvest in your life.

Book excerpt: When someone loses a child, there are no words that can be said that will ease the pain. What we need most is prayers and a compassionate friend to listen. My son Jay died at the early age of 36. He was a young man that was full of life and brought a smile to everyone he touched. My book, ¿He Planted a Seed,¿ is a compilation of my own remembrances of my beloved son. Each line of prose is a tribute to the life that he lived and the lives that he touched.Jay spent his short life planting seeds of hope and happiness in each life he came in contact with. He is gone from this natural world but his spirit lives on in the hearts and memories of those who loved him. Each seed Jay planted has left a tree of wisdom and joy that each of us continue to live and learn from every day.To those who choose the path of wisdom, love, and courage his footsteps are deep. His path is easy to follow because it is lined with the trees, born of the seeds Jay planted in his life.Bless you on your journey.

Book excerpt: In the numbness after September 11, 2001, and events following, Peggy Rosenthal found that only the arts could lift her spirit, especially, reading and meditating with poetry. In Praying through Poetry Rosenthal offers stark images of violence and a way to maintain the hope of our faith in violent times. She examines a single poem in each chapter and leads us through "dark stadiums and streets," past "what is afraid of me" and "what I am afraid of," past people crawling "on all fours through the roasting sand" -- through a metaphorical hell -- to that hope we seek, "to be born to everlasting life." Book excerpt: Planting Seeds is a collection of spoken words that have been brought to me over the years. These words are from my heart, mind, and soul brought upon to reflect change. All of my Spoken words are based on my personal experiences. Experiences that have touched my life in one way or another. This collection attempts to breakdown the five sides that GOD has revealed to me. These five sides will help the world understand change through my thoughts and philosophies. My philosophy on life is to empower the minds in our black communities. The first of the five sides that GOD has given me is the bless side. The blessed side shows that nothing is possible without Christ. For he has given me the gift to inspire others. The second side is the love and healing side. Through this side, GOD has shown me how to love. Love is the first essential key to winning others over. A testimony brings about the healing. The third side is the political side. The political side examines the eyes of the oppressed showing them alternatives to their setbacks. The fourth side is the life side. Life is the side I have experienced my trials and tribulations. This is the side that led me to the righteousness of GOD. The final side of me is the personal side. This side allows the reader to come in contact with the author. In conclusion, this collection of spoken-words would help rehabilitate the roles of the black males and the black females. Its positive RAP. This book is essential to the development of our black communities. The media has displayed a sense of falsehood through the disrespect of the Black woman as well as the negative representation of violence within the Black male, through TV as well as Radio. Hopefully this book of spoken-words will inspire a positive change through the wisdom that GOD has bestowed upon me. Now that the instructions has been given, I feel that its my duty to educate all of my blacks peers at large. In comparison to other books of poetry, this book of spoken-words relate to issues of life. That causes the mind to ponder, In essence, producing a change. This collection takes every aspect of life by sides and shows the reader how to change. The result of change is in understanding the sides of who you are. Every side must be understood. - It speaks to the youth. - It speaks to the community. - It speaks to modern day dilemmas. - It offers youth and community an answer to these dilemmas and invites them to talk, think and work together to bring about a positive change. - It speaks to Spirituality. -A strong relationship with GOD as an anchor. - Its proactive and anti violent. -A positive out-look on life.
