Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Before God created the universe, it apears to some of us that he must have had to undertake a lot of planning. God planned for all his creation to be put together and operate through mechanics, electrical and magnetic fields, and forces. He designed and planned for tiny subatomic particles to attract and repel, spin and fly. His atomic model baffled us for thousands of years. Yet, he also planned for life and spiritual existance. Stephen E. Meeks speculates on all of God’s planning in this important work, drawing on his knowledge of scripture and science. He seeks to discuss questions such as: What steps did God take to create life and achieve His plan of salvation? Did God keep some things a secret? What was he doing Before the creation? The author examines how God reveals his plan for a strong and orderly foundation on which He physically built creation and how His basic building blocks are revealed by science. From string theory and subatomic particles, light, day and night, and the heavens, to life, cellular mechanics, and more, this book hopes to share with you a new appreciation for God’s amazing work.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gods Plan of Creation: Written for All Gods Children Who Want to Know and Are Not Afraid to Think offers scripturally informed answers to questions arising in peoples minds as they wonder about the nature of God and His designs for all of creation. By using a three-part structure that examines the Siege, the Legacy, and the Story, Robert N. Smith brings to bear both his long study of the Scriptures and his insights to provide guidance for all who want to know and are not afraid to think. The first part, the Siege, presents an inquiry and review of humanitys continuing efforts to gain hold of its Legacy. The focus of the second portion of Gods Plan of Creation, the Legacy entails the gifts that God has chosen to give to humanity and that people today have received from the hands of their forebears in the faith. Finally, the Story displays a visual timeline of creation, plotting out key points of theology and cosmology. It is laid out landscape, therefore it does not fit the book format. Part 3 is in progress and will follow soon. If you see the world in all its beauty, complexity, and diversity and you find yourself wondering about the God who made all things and about His desires for how humanity fits into His plans, then Gods Plan of Creation: Written for All Gods Children Who Want to Know and Are Not Afraid to Think will pour out insights worth pondering. It takes a fearless and eyes-wide-open look at God and His plans and invites you to join in a journey of vision and discovery.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: with a Postcript coauthored by Michael W. Goheen In print for two decades and translated into eight languages, Albert Wolters's classic formulation of an integrated Christian worldview has been revised and expanded to reach new readers beyond the generation that has already benefited from this clear, concise proposal for transcending the false dichotomy between sacred and secular. Wolters begins by defining the nature and scope of a worldview, distinguishing it from philosophy and theology. He then outlines a Reformed analysis of the three basic categories in human history -- creation, fall, and redemption -- arguing that while the fall reaches into every corner of the world, Christians are called to participate in Christ's redemption of all creation. This Twentieth Anniversary edition features a new concluding chapter, coauthored with Michael Goheen, that helpfully places the discussion of worldview in a broader narrative and missional context.

Book excerpt: The flowering of Gothic architecture depended to a striking extent on the use of drawing as a tool of design. By drawing precise "blueprints" with simple tools such as the compass and straightedge, Gothic draftsmen were able to develop a linearized architecture of unprecedented complexity and sophistication. Examination of their surviving drawings can provide valuable and remarkably intimate information about the Gothic design process. Gothic drawings include compass pricks, uninked construction lines, and other telltale traces of the draftsman's geometrically based working method. The proportions of the drawings, moreover, are those actually intended by the designer, uncompromised by errors introduced in the construction process. All of these features make these drawings ideal subjects for the study of Gothic design practice, but their geometry has to date received little systematic attention. This book offers a new perspective on Gothic architectural creativity. It shows, in a series of rigorous geometrical case studies, how Gothic design evolved over time, in two senses: in the hours of the draftsman's labor, and across the centuries of the late Middle Ages. In each case study, a series of computer graphics show in unprecedented detail how a medieval designer could have developed his architectural concept step by step, using only basic geometrical operations. Taken together, these analyses demonstrate both remarkable methodological continuity across the Gothic era, and the progressive development of new and sophisticated permutations on venerable design themes. This rich tradition ultimately gave way in the Renaissance not because of any inherent problem with Gothic architecture, but because the visual language of Classicism appealed more directly to the pretensions of Humanist princes than the more abstract geometrical order of Gothic design, as the book's final chapter demonstrates.
