Download or read book FELICITÀ E BENESSERE written by Cecilia Corsi and published by Firenze University Press. This book was released on 2015 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume sets the start for the Quaderni "Cesare Alfieri", commissioned by the Council of the School of Political Sciences of the University of Florence as a scientific and editorial project aimed at involving all the cultural components animating the School. This work is an attempt to create an occasion of dialogue, research to deepen the acquired knowledge and investigate complex social issues from different points of view. For this first Quaderno - or notebook - the Scientific Committee has decided to focus on the concept of "well-being", to observe it from different perspectives and to relate it to the notion of happiness. The survey aims to offer food for thought, some lines for a path, different views on a theme that constitutes one of the great knots that our democracies must face: the well-being to be conquered, especially in the twentieth century, a real challenge for the beginning of a new Millennium.

Book excerpt: The iconic writer's electrifying first novel is a story of marriage, murder and betrayal that only she could tell with such nuance, sympathy, and suspense—from the bestselling, award-winning author of The Year of Magical Thinking and Let Me Tell You What I Mean. Everett McClellan and his wife, Lily, are the great-grandchildren of pioneers, and what happens to them is a tragic epilogue to the pioneer experience—a haunting portrait of a marriage whose wrong turns and betrayals are at once absolutely idiosyncratic and a razor-sharp commentary on the history of California.

Book Synopsis IL SOGNATORE DEL "MONDO VERO" by : Alessio Arzuffi
Download or read book IL SOGNATORE DEL "MONDO VERO" written by Alessio Arzuffi and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2011-12-05 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis The Oxford Handbook of the History of Psychology: Global Perspectives by : David B. Baker
Download or read book The Oxford Handbook of the History of Psychology: Global Perspectives written by David B. Baker and published by OUP USA. This book was released on 2012 with total page 662 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The science and practice of psychology has evolved around the world on different trajectories and timelines, yet with a convergence on the recognition of the need for a human science that can confront the challenges facing the world today. Few would argue that the standard narrative of the history of psychology has emphasized European and American traditions over others, but in today's global culture, there is a greater need in psychology for international understanding. This volume describes the historical development of psychology in countries throughout the world. Contributors provide narratives that examine the political and socioeconomic forces that have shaped their nations' psychologies. Each unique story adds another element to our understanding of the history of psychology. The chapters in this volume remind us that there are unique contexts and circumstances that influence the ways in which the science and practice of psychology are assimilated into our daily lives. Making these contexts and circumstances explicit through historical research and writing provides some promise of greater international insight, as well as a better understanding of the human condition.
Book Synopsis Cities of the Plain by : Cormac McCarthy
Download or read book Cities of the Plain written by Cormac McCarthy and published by Knopf Publishing Group. This book was released on 1998 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The setting is New Mexico in 1952, where John Grady Cole and Billy Parham are working as ranch hands. To the North lie the proving grounds of Alamogordo; to the South, the twin cities of El Paso and Juarez, Mexico. Their life is made up of trail drives and horse auctions and stories told by campfire light. It is a life that is about to change forever, and John Grady and Billy both know it. The catalyst for that change appears in the form of a beautiful, ill-starred Mexican prostitute. When John Grady falls in love, Billy agrees--against his better judgment--to help him rescue the girl from her suavely brutal pimp. The ensuing events resonate with the violence and inevitability of classic tragedy

Book Synopsis Noun+Noun Compounds in Italian by : Radimský Jan
Download or read book Noun+Noun Compounds in Italian written by Radimský Jan and published by University of South Bohemia. This book was released on 2015-12-28 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book investigates one concrete compounding pattern in present-day Italian within a larger overview of Italian compounding. Various accounts and classifications of Noun + Noun combinations in Italian are reviewed, with special focus on the status of the lexical integrity hypothesis. The author sets out to propose an integrated approach to the Noun + Noun compounding pattern, rigorously based on large representative data sets that were extracted from the Italian web corpus ItWaC as both automatically and manually post-processed frequency lists. On the basis of such data, it is aimed to show the behaviour of various subtypes of Noun + Noun compounds. Starting out with the Bisetto-Scalise classification, the author carefully examines the status of coordinate compounds, ATAP compounds (i.e., the group comprising attributive and appositive structures) and subordinate compounds (comprising verbal-nexus and grounding compounds), discussing both theoretical and empirical implications of this classification scheme. Moreover, the original Bisetto-Scalise model is supplemented with further classification levels in order to capture specific compounding types such as relational (i.e. inherently trinominal) compounds. A major merit of the present study lies in the quantitative dimension of the data it deals with. In light of this data, the author emphasizes the gradient nature of the traditional dichotomy between syntax and compounding. The book will thus appeal not only to the linguists interested specifically in Italian word-formation, but also to a larger community of scholars who seek a more general view of the word-formation phenomena.

Book Synopsis A dialogue between a christian an a Hindu about religion by : David N. Lorenzen
Download or read book A dialogue between a christian an a Hindu about religion written by David N. Lorenzen and published by El Colegio de Mexico AC. This book was released on 2015-03-02 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The “Dialogue between and Christian and a Hindu about Religion” (Javābasvāla aika krīstīān aura aika hīṃdu ke bīca mo imāna ke upara) was written in about 1751 by Giuseppe Maria da Gargnano with help from his Capuchin friend and colleague, Cassiano da Macerata, and from an unnamed Brahmin teacher. This teacher apparently taught Giuseppe Maria to read Hindustani and some Sanskrit, instructed him in the basics of Hindu religion, and corrected the Hindustani text of the “Dialogue”. A copy of the Hindustani text was first presented to the raja of Bettiah in 1751. Subsequently, an undetermined number of hand-made copies were distributed among persons in the Bettiah area. A copy of the Hindustani text in an Indian script related to nagari, dated in 1751, together with an Italian version was sent to Rome and is now in the Vatican Library (Borg. ind. 11). Another copy of the text, dated in 1787, is also found in the same Library (Borg. ind. 16). In the context of the still limited progress of European studies of Indian languages and culture in Giuseppe Maria’s historical period, and despite the shortcomings of his own cultural upbringing and intellectual training, the Hindu-Christian dialogu remains a pioneering linguistic and religious experiment.
