Book Synopsis Handbook of Vegetable Pests by : John Capinera
Download or read book Handbook of Vegetable Pests written by John Capinera and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2020-04-23 with total page 818 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Handbook of Vegetable Pests, Second Edition, provides two types of diagnostic aids: the easy-to-use "guides to pests of vegetable crops", which guides the reader to the most likely pests of each vegetable crop based on the portion of the plant attacked and the category of pest; and the more technical dichotomous keys for identification of many of the difficult-to-identify species. It includes over 300 common and occasional pest species, detailing the geographic distribution of vegetable pests, host plant relationships, natural enemies, damage, life history, and methods of control and damage prevention. - Presents a current and comprehensive synthesis of vetted information for the support of both commercial and home vegetable production - Includes over 300 common and occasional pest species, or species complexes, known to affect vegetables grown in the United States and Canada - Summarizes the important findings of the last 150 years - Provides citations to the original literature

Download or read book Phytoremediation written by Abid Ali Ansari and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-09-23 with total page 582 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book details the plant-assisted remediation method, “phytoremediation”, which involves the interaction of plant roots and associated rhizospheric microorganisms for the remediation of soil contaminated with high levels of metals, pesticides, solvents, radionuclides, explosives, crude oil, organic compounds and various other contaminants. Each chapter highlights and compares the beneficial and economical alternatives of phytoremediation to currently practiced soil removal and burial practices.

Book Synopsis Crop Safeners for Herbicides by : Kriton Hatzios
Download or read book Crop Safeners for Herbicides written by Kriton Hatzios and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 415 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Crop Safeners for Herbicides aims to discuss the issue of chemical manipulation of crop tolerance to herbicides. This book resulted from a symposium titled ""Chemical Manipulation of Crop Tolerance to Herbicides"". Several chapters included herein are added contributions from experts outside of the symposium. The book not only serves as reference for the knowledge of the agronomic uses, development, chemistry, and mechanisms of action herbicide safeners, but it also assesses the impact of safeners all around the world. It also presents a discussion on alternative approaches that increases herbicide selectivity and explores future trends. Comprised of 16 chapters and divided into four parts, the book starts with a section on the development and uses of herbicide safeners. The text also offers a critical and extensive review of academic and industrial perspectives in the development of herbicide safeners in different parts of the world. Part 2 of this book starts with an overview of the physiological, biochemical, and molecular aspects of the mechanisms, and then further delves in to the prevalent mechanisms of action of selected classes of herbicide safeners. The third part of this book provides data on the potential use of alternative approaches for the manipulation of crop tolerance to herbicides. The last part is a summary of the progress and prospects of the topic of crop safening against herbicide injury. The book serves as an important resource for students and professionals interested in the field of agriculture, agronomy, pest research, weed science, and plant pathology and physiology.

Book Synopsis Vascular Wilt Diseases of Plants by : E.C. Tjamos
Download or read book Vascular Wilt Diseases of Plants written by E.C. Tjamos and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 586 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is apparent that wilt diseases continue to be a major problem in crop production because of the number of crops affected, the number and genetic variability of pathogens involved, and their widespread occurrence throughout tropical and temperate regions under a variety of cropping systems. It is also apparent, however, that new understandings and approaches, often in combinations not previously discerned, offer exciting new prospects for research, understanding and practical control methods. The current state-of-the-art and fields for further studies were discussed by researchers actively engaged in a wide range of areas from ecological studies of physical and biological factors in the host-parasite-environmental interactions in the soil, through physiological and biochemical studies of host-parasite recognition and interaction that determine relative colonization of the host, through genetic-molecular studies of these interactions, to the most practical field studies of disease control.

Book Synopsis Bioaugmentation for Reduction of Diffuse Pesticide Contamination by : Karin Önneby
Download or read book Bioaugmentation for Reduction of Diffuse Pesticide Contamination written by Karin Önneby and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: T51 in microcosms significantly enhanced the degradation of MCPA compared with an uninoculated soil, without losing the herbicidal effect. In sand, 105 cells g−1 dry weight of soil reduced the MCPA concentration by 79-86% within one day, while only 0-31% reduction was observed in the uninoculated control after three days. However, Sphingobium sp. T51 needs to be formulated to retain its viability and degradation activity during prolonged storage and also for protection from the harsh environmental stresses associated with its application and functioning in the field. Both freeze drying and fluidised bed drying of Sphingobium sp. T51 resulted in high initial cell survival rates, of 67-85%. The storage stability of formulated Sphingobium sp. T51 was dependent on the formulation excipient/carrier used, storage temperature and atmospheric conditions. Sphingobium sp.
