Download or read book Physics and Chemistry at Low Temperatures written by Leonid Khriachtchev and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2019-05-08 with total page 388 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tunneling reactions in chemistry are characterized by the low-temperature limit when the classical contribution is negligible. Many practical applications benefit from the lack of heat and have a deep physical basis. Interesting advantages of chemical synthesis at low temperatures have also been demonstrated. This book covers fundamental and practical aspects of the processes and experimental and theoretical methods used in the field. The chapters are written by leading scientists who have very strong experience in the selected topics, and many practical recommendations can be found in this book.

This book was released on 2009-09-09 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first unified treatment of experimental and theoreticaladvances in low-temperature chemistry Chemical Dynamics at LowTemperatures is a landmark publication. For the first time, thecumulative results of twenty years of experimental and theoreticalresearch into low-temperature chemistry have been collected andpresented in a unified treatment. The result is a text/referencethat both offers an overview of the subject and contains sufficientdetail to guide practicing researchers toward fertile ground forfuture research. Topics covered include: * Developmental history * Formulation of general problems and the main approximations usedto solve them * Specific features of tunneling chemical dynamics * One-dimensional tunneling in the path integral formalism * Special problems of two- and multidimensional tunneling * An extended presentation of pertinent experimental results

Book Synopsis Low-Temperature Physics: an introduction for scientists and engineers by : P.V.E. McClintock
Download or read book Low-Temperature Physics: an introduction for scientists and engineers written by P.V.E. McClintock and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is intended to provide a clear and unified introduction to the physics of matter at low temperatures, and to do so at a level accessible to researchers new to the field and to graduate and senior undergraduate students. Rapid scientific progress made over the last seven years in a number of specific areas-for example, high-Tc superconductivity and the quantum Hall effect-has inevitably rendered our earlier Matter at Low Temperatures somewhat out of date. We have therefore taken the opportunity to revise and amend the text in its entirety and, at the same time, to furnish it with what we believe to be a more apt title, emphasizing that it is with the physics of low temperatures that we are particularly concerned. Like its predecessor, Low-Temperature Physics is devoted to the fascinating and diverse phenomena that occur under conditions of extreme cold, many of which have no analogue at all in the everyday world at room temperature.
Book Synopsis Matter and Methods at Low Temperatures by : Frank Pobell
Download or read book Matter and Methods at Low Temperatures written by Frank Pobell and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-17 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of this book is to provide information about performing experi ments at low temperatures, as well as basic facts concerning the low tem perature properties of liquid and solid matter. To orient the reader, I begin with chapters on these low temperature properties. The major part of the book is then devoted to refrigeration techniques and to the physics on which they are based. Of equal importance, of course, are the definition and measurement of temperature; hence low temperature thermometry is extensively discussed in subsequent chapters. Finally, I describe a variety of design and construction techniques which have turned out to be useful over the years. The content of the book is based on the three-hour-per-week lecture course which I have given several times at the University of Bayreuth between 1983 and 1991. It should be particularly suited for advanced stu dents whose intended masters (diploma) or Ph.D. subject is experimental condensed matter physics at low temperatures. However, I believe that the book will also be of value to experienced scientists, since it describes sev eral very recent advances in experimental low temperature physics and technology, for example, new developments in nuclear refrigeration and thermometry.
