While juggling her career, marriage, and family, she received a call that her beloved aunt, who lived many states away, was not well. Faced with managing her aunt's care from a distance, Lili relied on wisdom from professionals, friends, and family members to do her best. Eventually, Lili found her way, and then was also faced with caring for her aging parents. In a helpful resource for caregivers seeking trusted guidance, Fiore shares the lessons learned and wisdom gained from missteps along her own journey as a caregiver that also includes knowledge she learned from her father who was an Episcopal Priest and head of Pastoral Care at the local hospital and an early teacher of dying and death in the 1970s. Her guide provides advice on how to hire Caregivers, create healthy boundaries, utilize her sensory care method, approach Loved Ones about advocating on their behalf, provide end-of-life care, and dozens of tracking forms for personal and medical care. There are various forms, for managing caregiving, preparing for your Loved One's death, and managing affairs after death. Included is valuable insight on grief and how to live again once the journey as a caregiver has ended. Lili's Caregiver's Guide shares proven methods to help Caregivers find peace, organization, and a sense of control while creating the best possible life and passing for you the Caregiver and your Loved Ones.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Biomedical engineering and health informatics are closely related to each other, and it is often difficult to tell where one ends and the other begins, but ICT systems in healthcare and biomedical systems and devices are already becoming increasingly interconnected, and share the common entity of data. This is something which is set to become even more prevalent in future, and will complete the chain and flow of information from the sensor, via processing, to the actuator, which may be anyone or anything from a human healthcare professional to a robot. Methods for automating the processing of information, such as signal processing, machine learning, predictive analytics and decision support, are increasingly important for providing actionable information and supporting personalized and preventive healthcare protocols in both biomedical and digital healthcare systems and applications. This book of proceedings presents 50 papers from the 12th eHealth conference, eHealth2018, held in Vienna, Austria, in May 2018. The theme of this year’s conference is Biomedical Meets eHealth – From Sensors to Decisions, and the papers included here cover a wide range of topics from the field of eHealth. The book will be of interest to all those working to design and implement healthcare today.

This book was released on 2018-11-16 with total page 103 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Adults age 65 and older make up the fastest-growing segment of the U.S. population. At the same time, the complexity of health care delivery continues to grow, creating challenges that are magnified for older adults, given that age is one of the highest correlates of low health literacy. This creates a shared obligation between health care and the health care team to use the principles, tools, and practices of health literacy so that patients and families of older adults can more easily navigate discussions related to chronic disease, polypharmacy, long-term care, palliative care, insurance complexities, the social determinants of health, and other factors that create challenges for older adults, particularly among underserved populations nationwide. To gain a better understanding of the health communication challenges among older adults and their professional and family caregivers and how those challenges affect the care older adults receive, the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine's Roundtable on Health Literacy convened a 1-day public workshop featuring presentations and discussions that examined the effect of low health literacy on the health of older adults. This publication summarizes the presentations and discussions from the workshop.

Book excerpt: This book describes geriatrics practice models that are used to guide the care of older adults, allowing seniors to remain at home, prevent functional disability and preserve quality of life. The models include specific interventions which are performed by health care workers to address the needs of older persons and their caregivers. These models respect patient values, consider patient safety and appreciate psychosocial needs as well. Divided into six parts that discuss hospital-based models of care, transitions from hospital to home, outpatient-based models of care and emergency department models of care, this text addresses the needs of vulnerable patients and the community. Geriatric Models of Care is an excellent resource for health care leaders who must translate these programs to address the needs of the patients in their communities.

This model includes: an environment of care designed to promote improved function for older patients; an interdisciplinary team that works together to identify/address the vulnerabilities of the older patients; nursing care plans for prevention of disability; early planning to help prepare the patient to return home and a review of medical care to prevent iatrogenic illness. Acute Care for Elders: A Model for Interdisciplinary Care is an essential new resource aimed at assisting providers in developing and sustaining an ACE program. The interdisciplinary approach provides an introduction to the key vulnerabilities of older adults and defines the lessons learned from the Acute Care for Elders model. Expertly written chapters describe critical aspects of ACE: the interdisciplinary approach and the focus on function. The fundamental principles of ACE described in this book will further assist hospital leaders to develop, implement, sustain and disseminate the Acute Care for Elders model of care. Acute Care for Elders: A Model for Interdisciplinary Care is of great value to geriatricians, hospitalists, advance practice nurses, social workers and all others who provide high quality care to older patients.

Book excerpt: “Finally—a fitness book for the rest of us! . . . [Big Fit Girl] is sure to usher in a new generation of tough, curvy athletes.” —Jessamyn Stanley, author of Every Body Yoga In Big Fit Girl, Louise Green describes how the fitness industry fails to meet the needs of plus-size women and thus prevents them from improving their health and fitness. By telling her own story of how she stopped dieting, got off the couch, and unleashed her inner athlete—as well as showcasing similar stories from other women—Green inspires other plus-size women to do the same. Green also provides concrete advice, based on the latest research, about how to get started, how to establish a support team, how to choose an activity, what kind of clothing and gear work best for the plus-size athlete, how to set goals, and how to improve one’s relationship with food. And she stresses the importance of paying it forward—for it is only by seeing plus-size women in leadership roles that other plus-size women will be motivated to stop trying to lose weight and get fit instead. “Big Fit Girl impressed me tremendously. Green combines compelling storytelling with practical tips—true to what we know about science—in a unique way that will get you moving.” —Linda Bacon, PhD, scientist, and author of Health at Every Size “Inspiring and empowering.” —Taryn Brumfitt, producer and director, founder of the Body Image Movement “I’m thrilled to live in a world where Big Fit Girl will be part of the health section. Thank you Louise—it’s time for every person of every size to have access to this information!” —Jes Baker, The Militant Baker
