Download or read book Anh's Anger written by Gail Silver and published by Parallax Press. This book was released on 2009-07-10 with total page 37 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This wonderful and engaging 1st book in a trilogy that includes Steps and Stones and Peace, and Bugs and Understanding, gives children and caregivers a concrete practice for dealing with anger and other difficult emotions. In Anh’s Anger, five-year-old Anh becomes enraged when his grandfather asks him to stop playing and come to the dinner table. The grandfather helps Anh fully experience all stages of anger by suggesting that he go to his room and, "sit with his anger." The story unfolds when Anh discovers what it means to sit with his anger. He comes to know his anger in the first person as his anger comes to life in full color and personality. Anh and his anger work through feelings together with humor and honesty to find a way to constructively release their thoughts and emotions and to reach resolve with Anh’s grandfather. The story is beautifully illustrated with handmade collages by New York artist and childrens book illustrator Christiane Kromer. Each collage is a mix of paper, acrylic, and cardboard, and found materials. The materials reflect the connection between the characters and their environment and are indicative of the wide range of emotions that come together in the story. Anh’s Anger teaches children that it is okay to feel angry, and shows the technique, often used by child therapists, of externalizing the emotion. Through taking time to "sit’ with his anger, a young child is able to see his anger and talk to it and together they move through the journey of experiencing the different stages of anger until the feeling subsides and finally resolve. Anh’s Anger differs significantly from other books on anger resolution techniques in showing that the child is able to talk about what transpired and accept responsibility for hurtful things that he may have said or done. The author’s intention is to help parents understand that there is an alternative to "time out’s" as a means of helping children to express themselves when feeling angry, while providing children with a mechanism for internal dialogue during a "time out" or when "sitting" with their anger. Through reading the story, children will learn to acknowledge anger when it arises, understand the cause of their anger, and ultimately feel safe expressing themselves and accepting accountability for their actions when appropriate. By learning these skills, children, will grow comfortable with them and carry them into adulthood with ease and confidence.

Book excerpt: "Tish McWhinny is Miss Marple without the cuteness, brought up to date and plunked down in Vermont. She is gutsy and audacious...." --Margaret Maron When B. Comfort's The Cashmere Kid appeared in 1993, Publishers Weekly wrote, "Vermont goat-herding may not sound like material for a gripping mystery, but in Comfort's hands it achieves that dimension." The tranquility of this southern Vermont haven is disturbed, however, when Tish's newest neighbor arrives and proves to be an entire cult. Tish first senses that something is odd when a young reporter arrives to write an article on the "Ringers" and promptly disappears. Then, walking in the woods, Tish tumbles into what on examination seems to be an ancient Druid cave. By the time the inevitable murder takes place and Tish herself looks like the suspect, the little town has been transformed into a hotbed of intrigue.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: THE NATIONAL BESTSELLER, NOW IN PAPERBACK “Another hilarious essay collection from Phoebe Robinson.”—The New York Times Book Review “Strikes the perfect balance of brutally honest and laugh-out-loud funny. I didn’t want it to end.”—Mindy Kaling, New York Times bestselling author of Why Not Me? With sharp, timely insight, pitch-perfect pop culture references, and her always unforgettable voice, New York Times bestselling author, comedian, actress, and producer Phoebe Robinson is back with her most must-read book yet. In her brand-new collection, Phoebe shares stories that will make you laugh, but also plenty that will hit you in the heart and inspire a little bit of rage, and maybe a lot of action. That means revealing her perspective on performative allyship, white guilt, and what happens when white people take up space in cultural movements; exploring what it’s like to be a woman who doesn’t want kids living in a society where motherhood is the crowning achievement of a straight, cis woman’s life; and discussing how the dire state of mental health in America means that taking care of one’s psychological well-being—aka “self-care”—usually requires disposable money. She also shares tales of her mom slowpoking before a visit with Mrs. Obama, the stupidly fake reassurances of zip-line attendants, her favorite things about dating a white person from the UK, and how the lack of Black women in leadership positions fueled her to become the Black lady-boss of her dreams. By turns perceptive, hilarious, and heartfelt, Please Don’t Sit on My Bed in Your Outside Clothes is not only a brilliant look at our current cultural moment, it's also a collection that will stay with readers for years to come.

Or when A WELL-OILED BICYCLE comes out A WELL-BOILED ICICLE, or THANKS FOR DOING THE CHORES turns into THANKS FOR CHEWING THE DOORS.Wordplay master Jon Agee takes some of the more comical examples of these verbal mix-ups and pairs them with his equally hilarious pictures. Its a combination that will tickle your BUNNY PHONE.
Book Synopsis Bewitched Again by : Julie D. O’Reilly
Download or read book Bewitched Again written by Julie D. O’Reilly and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2013-07-20 with total page 247 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Starting in 1996, U.S. television saw an influx of superhuman female characters who could materialize objects like Sabrina, the Teenage Witch, defeat evil like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and have premonitions like Charmed's Phoebe. The extraordinary abilities of these women showed resistance to traditional gender roles, although these characters experienced infringements on their abilities in ways superpowered men did not. Supernaturally powerful women and girls have remained on television, including the heavenly connected Grace (of Saving Grace), telepathic Sookie (of True Blood), and magical Cassie (of The Secret Circle). These more recent characters also face numerous constraints on their powers. As a result, superpowers become a narrative technique to diminish these characters, a technique that began with television's first superpowered woman, Samantha (of Bewitched). They all illustrate a paradox of women's power: are these characters ever truly powerful, much less superpowerful, if they cannot use their abilities fully? The superwoman has endured as a metaphor for women trying to "have it all"; therefore, the travails of these television examples parallel those of their off-screen counterparts.
