Book Synopsis Regional Economic Planning by : R. C. Jensen
Download or read book Regional Economic Planning written by R. C. Jensen and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-09-05 with total page 179 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published in 1979. Decision makers at all levels need sufficiently detailed information on regional economic structure in order to undertake consistent and comprehensive regional planning. A means is put forward here, elevating the impracticable regional input-output method, to that of an operational planning technique. This development represents a system which facilitates the examination both of the economic structure of individual regions in reasonable detail, and of the regional structure of the state economy. The technique, termed the Generation of Regional Input-Output Tables (GRIT), is designed for general use in the production of regional input-output tables, and other data sources contributing towards the holistic accuracy of the table, thereby providing accurate maximisation of input-output tables within a given budget constraint.

Book excerpt: This monograph is a revision of my Indiana University doctoral disserta tion which was completed in April, 1975. Thanks are, therefore, due to the members of my doctoral committee: Saul Pleeter (Chairman), David J. Behling, R. Jeffery Green, Richard L. Pfister, and Elmus Wicker for their helpful comments on previous versions of the manuscript. In addition, I am indebted to the Division of Research and to the Office of Research and Advanced Studies at Indiana University for financial support. As the reader will observe, the techniques developed in Chapters 3 and 4 of this monograph are illustrated using input-output data from West Virginia. These data were generously made available by William H. Miernyk, Director of the Regional Research Institute at West Virginia University. I also wish to acknowledge the Bureau of Business and Eco nomic Research at Arizona State University for providing two research assistants, Kevin A. Nosbisch and Tom R. Rex, who aided in processing the West Virginia data. A third research assistant, Phillip M. Cano, also worked on this project as part of an independent study program taken under my direction during the spring semester of 1975. Finally, I must thank Mary Holguin and Margaret Shumway who expertly typed the final copy of the manuscript. Despite the efforts of all the individuals mentioned above, I assume responsibility for any errors which may remain.

Download or read book Empirical Regional Economics written by Richard S. Conway Jr. and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-04-23 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook offers an introduction to empirical regional economics, including a comprehensive and systematic overview of the fundamentals, history, development, and applications of economic base models. It not only provides a sound basis for regional economics and regional economic analysis, but it also includes numerous applications of the underlying theory. The book has an empirical orientation, highlighting the value of observation and testing in order to explain regional economic behavior. Theory plays an important role in this study, but it is only a starting point. The book is divided into three parts: the first discusses the economic base theory of regional growth and the empirical evidence supporting it, while the second part covers the specification and application of four increasingly complex regional economic models: the economic base model, the input-output model, the interindustry econometric model, and the structural time-series model. Lastly, the third part presents forty-eight regional economic case studies organized under seven headings, including economic cycles, economic policy, and regional forecasting. Given its scope, the book appeals to upper-undergraduate and graduate students majoring in economics, economic geography, and business, as well as to anyone in the private or public sector interested in gaining a better understanding of practical methods of regional economic forecasting and analysis. Book Synopsis Methods of Interregional and Regional Analysis by : Walter Isard
Download or read book Methods of Interregional and Regional Analysis written by Walter Isard and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-07-05 with total page 497 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This landmark textbook introduces students to the principles of regional science and focuses on the key methods used in regional analysis, including regional and interregional input-output analysis, econometrics (regional and spatial), programming and industrial and urban complex analysis, gravity and spatial interaction models, SAM and social accounting (welfare) analysis and applied general interregional equilibrium models. The coherent development of the materials contained in the set of chapters provides students with a comprehensive background and understanding of how to investigate key regional problems. For the research scholar, this publication constitutes an up-to-date source book of the basic elements of each major regional science technique. More significant, it points to new directions for future research and ways interregional and regional analytic approaches can be fused to realise much more probing attacks on regional and spatial problems - a contribution far beyond what is available in the literature.
