Book Synopsis Thermodynamic Properties of Some Metal Oxide-zirconia Systems by : Nathan S. Jacobson
Download or read book Thermodynamic Properties of Some Metal Oxide-zirconia Systems written by Nathan S. Jacobson and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 66 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Metal oxide-zirconia systems are a potential class of materials for use as structural materials at temperatures above 1900 K. These materials must have no destructive phase changes and low vapor pressures. Both alkaline earth oxide (MgO, CaO, SrO, and BaO)-zirconia and some rare earth oxide (Y2O3, Sc2O3, La2O3, CeO2, Sm2O3, Gd2O3, Yb2O3, Dy2O3, Ho2O3, and Er2O3)-zirconia system are examined. For each system, the phase diagram is discussed and the vapor pressure for each vapor specie is calculated via a free energy minimization procedure. The available thermodynamic literature on each system is also surveyed. Some of the systems look promising for high temperature structural materials.

Book excerpt: This dictionary contains 739 entries with about 1400 references to the primary literature. Details on the composition, performance, sensitivity and other pertinent properties of Energetic Materials such as High Explosives, Propellants, Pyrotechnics, as well as important ingredients such as Oxidizers, Fuels, Binders, and Modifiers are given and presented partly in over 180 tables with more than 240 structural formulas . In detail the dictionary gives elaborate descriptions of 460 Chemical Substances 170 Pyrotechnic Compositions 360 High Explosive and Propellant Formulations In addition, the basic physical and thermochemical properties of 435 pure substances (elements & compounds) typically occuring as ingredients or reaction products are given too. 150 Figures, schemes and diagrams explain Applications, Test methods, Scientific facilities, and finally Individuals closely tied with the development and investigation of Energetic Materials. The book is intended for readers with a technical or scientific background, active in governmental agencies, research institutes, trade and industry, concerned with the procurement, development, manufacture, investigation and use of Energetic Materials, such as High Explosives, Propellants, Pyrotechnics, Fireworks and Ammunition. The book serves both as a daily reference for the experienced as well as an introduction for the newcomer to the field.
Book Synopsis Phase Diagrams 6-II by : Allen Alper
Download or read book Phase Diagrams 6-II written by Allen Alper and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 375 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Phase Diagrams: Materials Science and Technology, Volume II covers the use of phase diagrams in metals, refractories, ceramics, and cements. Divided into 10 chapters, this volume first describes the main features of phase diagrams representing systems in which the oxygen pressure is an important parameter, starting with binary systems and proceeding toward the more complicated ternary and quaternary systems. The subsequent chapters discuss the application of phase diagrams in several refractory systems. A chapter covers the procedures used for cement production and some of the available phase-equilibrium data and their application to specific situations. This volume also deals with the application of phase diagrams to extraction metallurgy, with an emphasis on oxide systems, as well as in ceramic and metal sintering. The concluding chapters explore the relationship of heat treatment of metals and alloys to their phase diagrams. These chapters also deal with the use of phase diagrams in several techniques of joining metals, such as fusion welding, brazing, solid-state bonding, and soldering. This volume will be useful to all scientists, engineers, and materials science students who are investigating and developing materials, as well as to the end users of the materials.
Book Synopsis C-Ta-W to Ti-V-W by : Günter Effenberg
Download or read book C-Ta-W to Ti-V-W written by Günter Effenberg and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-04-13 with total page 657 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The sub-series Ternary Alloy Systems of the Landolt-Börnstein New Series provides reliable and comprehensive descriptions of the materials constitution, based on critical intellectual evaluations of all data available at the time and it critically weights the different findings, also with respect to their compatibility with today’s edge binary phase diagrams. Selected are ternary systems of importance to alloy development and systems which gained in the recent years otherwise scientific interest. In one ternary materials system, however, one may find alloys for various applications, depending on the chosen composition. Reliable phase diagrams provide scientists and engineers with basic information of eminent importance for fundamental research and for the development and optimization of materials. So collections of such diagrams are extremely useful, if the data on which they are based have been subjected to critical evaluation, like in these volumes. Critical evaluation means: there where contradictory information is published data and conclusions are being analyzed, broken down to the firm facts and re-interpreted in the light of all present knowledge. Depending on the information available this can be a very difficult task to achieve. Critical evaluations establish descriptions of reliably known phase configurations and related data.
