Download or read book Cómo Perseverar Hasta El Final written by John Piper and published by Editorial Portavoz. This book was released on 2014-05-23 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. A call for the endurance of the saints with contributions by John Piper, John MacArthur, Randy Alcorn, Jerry Bridges, and Helen Roseveare. The modern answer for bettering your life is usually "move on." But God's Word values a different standard that, while difficult, leads to deep satisfaction and a great reward: endurance. Long, steady, hold-the-course perseverance is especially needed within today's vacillating generation. Each author is a devoted Christ-follower who contributes a chapter about a different kind of endurance.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis Lives of the Stoics by : Ryan Holiday
Download or read book Lives of the Stoics written by Ryan Holiday and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2020-09-29 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Instant New York Times Advice & Business Bestseller, USA Today Bestseller, and Wall Street Journal #1 Bestseller! A New York Times Noteworthy Pick and a "stellar work" by Publishers Weekly From the bestselling authors of The Daily Stoic comes an inspiring guide to the lives of the Stoics, and what the ancients can teach us about happiness, success, resilience and virtue. Nearly 2,300 years after a ruined merchant named Zeno first established a school on the Stoa Poikile of Athens, Stoicism has found a new audience among those who seek greatness, from athletes to politicians and everyone in between. It's no wonder; the philosophy and its embrace of self-mastery, virtue, and indifference to that which we cannot control is as urgent today as it was in the chaos of the Roman Empire. In Lives of the Stoics, Holiday and Hanselman present the fascinating lives of the men and women who strove to live by the timeless Stoic virtues of Courage. Justice. Temperance. Wisdom. Organized in digestible, mini-biographies of all the well-known--and not so well-known--Stoics, this book vividly brings home what Stoicism was like for the people who loved it and lived it, dusting off powerful lessons to be learned from their struggles and successes. More than a mere history book, every example in these pages, from Epictetus to Marcus Aurelius--slaves to emperors--is designed to help the reader apply philosophy in their own lives. Holiday and Hanselman unveil the core values and ideas that unite figures from Seneca to Cato to Cicero across the centuries. Among them are the idea that self-rule is the greatest empire, that character is fate; how Stoics benefit from preparing not only for success, but failure; and learn to love, not merely accept, the hand they are dealt in life. A treasure of valuable insights and stories, this book can be visited again and again by any reader in search of inspiration from the past.

Book Synopsis Death in Fifteenth Century Castile by : Laura Vivanco
Download or read book Death in Fifteenth Century Castile written by Laura Vivanco and published by Tamesis Books. This book was released on 2004 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Differences in attitudes to death and dying in two distinct social classes, the ecclesiastics and the nobility. The theory of the three estates made clear distinctions between the functions of the two estates which comprised the elite of medieval society: the oradores (ecclesiastics) and the defensores (warriors or nobility). They had different lifestyles, clothing and ways of thinking about life. With regard to death, the responses dictated by Christian theology conflicted with the demands of the defensor ideology, based on the defence of individual honour, the pursuit of fama and the display of earthly power. This book charts the progress of the dying from their preparations for death, through their 'good' or 'bad' deaths, to their burials and otherworldly fates and also analyses the responses of the bereaved. Through the use of pre-fifteenth-century texts it is possible to demonstrate that the conflict between the orador and defensor ideologies did not begin in the fifteenth century, but rather had a much older origin, and it is suggested that the conflict continued after 1500. Textual sources include the Siete partidas, wills, chronicles, religious works such as the Arte de bien morir and literary works such as Cárcel de Amor and Celestina.
