Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 🎉 Introducing the children's wonder: “Dandy Ahuruonye’s CHEEKY PERIWINKLES!” 🎉 Gather 'round, dear parents and guardians, for a literary treat that will have your children giggling and guffawing from cover to cover! Dandy Ahuruonye’s “CHEEKY PERIWINKLES” is a delightful romp through a world where the slow and steady truly win the race, and every page is brimming with slime, wit, and whimsy. You're probably wondering - Why should I add this gem to my child’s bookshelf? Let me regale you with the reasons! Hilarious Hijinks: This book is a laugh-out-loud adventure featuring the cheekiest periwinkles, slugs, and snails you’ll ever meet. Imagine a world where slugs rule the roost and time moves slower than a snail on holiday. “It was slug days, and time dragged on as everyone found themselves in the leafy embrace of an island isolated amidst the vast and whispering ocean.” The humour is as zesty as a lemon tart, making it a joy for both kids and parents alike. Charming Characters: Each character is more endearing than the last. From Old Whiskers, who paints sunsets on his shell, to the periwinkles teaching snails to dance a jig, every creature is bursting with personality. “In the land of the slowpokes, being fast is about as important as a knitted swimsuit,” and that’s just the beginning of the fun! Life Lessons with a Twist: Beneath the humour lies a treasure trove of life lessons. The story teaches children the value of patience, the beauty of taking things slow, and the importance of being oneself. “Every tiny slide forward is a big win,” and this book celebrates those small victories in the most delightful way. Perfect for All Ages: The witty banter and playful prose make this book a hit with readers of all ages. Mums and dads will find themselves sniggering right along with their sprogs, as the gentle rhymes and twinkling chuckles are as ageless as the constellations dozing above our beds at night. So, don your wellies and prepare for a trek through the squelchy lives of periwinkles, slugs, and snails. “Dandy Ahuruonye’s CHEEKY PERIWINKLES” is a saga that wiggles and waggles between the serious and the silly, spinning tales that stretch from the seabed to the sunny skies of make-believe. Get your copy today and let the cheeky adventure begin! 📚✨

Book Synopsis Bitter Roots by : Abena Dove Osseo-Asare
Download or read book Bitter Roots written by Abena Dove Osseo-Asare and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 2014-01-13 with total page 309 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For over a century, plant specialists worldwide have sought to transform healing plants in African countries into pharmaceuticals. And for equally as long, conflicts over these medicinal plants have endured, from stolen recipes and toxic tonics to unfulfilled promises of laboratory equipment and usurped personal patents. In Bitter Roots, Abena Dove Osseo-Asare draws on publicly available records and extensive interviews with scientists and healers in Ghana, Madagascar, and South Africa to interpret how African scientists and healers, rural communities, and drug companies—including Pfizer, Bristol-Myers Squibb, and Unilever—have sought since the 1880s to develop drugs from Africa’s medicinal plants. Osseo-Asare recalls the efforts to transform six plants into pharmaceuticals: rosy periwinkle, Asiatic pennywort, grains of paradise, Strophanthus, Cryptolepis, and Hoodia. Through the stories of each plant, she shows that herbal medicine and pharmaceutical chemistry have simultaneous and overlapping histories that cross geographic boundaries. At the same time, Osseo-Asare sheds new light on how various interests have tried to manage the rights to these healing plants and probes the challenges associated with assigning ownership to plants and their biochemical components. A fascinating examination of the history of medicine in colonial and postcolonial Africa, Bitter Roots will be indispensable for scholars of Africa; historians interested in medicine, biochemistry, and society; and policy makers concerned with drug access and patent rights.
