Book Synopsis Catholic Social Teaching and Social Entrepreneurship by : Adam Zadroga
Download or read book Catholic Social Teaching and Social Entrepreneurship written by Adam Zadroga and published by Vandenhoeck & Ruprecht. This book was released on 2023-11-13 with total page 149 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the significant factors in the responsible implementation of social entrepreneurship is the appropriate shape of the norms and values that determine it. With this in mind, this book draws on Catholic social teaching (CST) to make an original contribution to understanding and describing the axionormative determinants of social entrepreneurship. In the course of analysis and meta-scientific reflection, it was established that the axionormative determinants of social entrepreneurship revolve around three areas: (1) the axiology of (the idea of) social entrepreneurship; (2) the moral principles of social enterprise management; (3) the professional ethics of social entrepreneurs. This approach to research has allowed the original formulation of: (1) the constitutive values of the idea of social entrepreneurship; (2) the concept of the moral dimension of social enterprise management; (3) the concept of professional ethics of social entrepreneurs.
Book Synopsis Francis still dreams by : Luca Fiorani
Download or read book Francis still dreams written by Luca Fiorani and published by Edizioni Frate Indovino. This book was released on 2020-09-02T00:00:00+02:00 with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Older people are dreamers too. The Argentine Pope, leader of over a billion people, shakes hands with a girl from Sweden who has mobilised millions of young people (and many less young). Their shared dream is a world in which there is greater brotherhood and solidarity, where architects and engineers have forgotten how to design walls because now they are only asked to build bridges. They want a world in which all human activity – concerning the environment, economics, society, culture and daily life – is directed towards the common good of all people on earth and justice between generations. In a nutshell, they want a world in which “integral ecology” is applied, a key concept in Laudato Si’, Pope Francis’ encyclical letter “on care for our common home”. Knowing that not everyone has the time to read papal documents or UN reports, Luca Fiorani takes us through the key concepts in Laudato Si’, recent outcomes of international negotiations on climate change and the latest scientific data on the health of our planet.

Book Synopsis Discourse on the State of the Jews by : Simone Luzzatto
Download or read book Discourse on the State of the Jews written by Simone Luzzatto and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2019-07-08 with total page 488 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1638, a small book of no more than 92 pages in octavo was published “appresso Gioanne Calleoni” under the title “Discourse on the State of the Jews and in particular those dwelling in the illustrious city of Venice.” It was dedicated to the Doge of Venice and his counsellors, who are labelled “lovers of Truth.” The author of the book was a certain Simone (Simḥa) Luzzatto, a native of Venice, where he lived and died, serving as rabbi for over fifty years during the course of the seventeenth century. Luzzatto’s political thesis is simple and, at the same time, temerarious, if not revolutionary: Venice can put an end to its political decline, he argues, by offering the Jews a monopoly on overseas commercial activity. This plan is highly recommendable because the Jews are “wellsuited for trade,” much more so than others (such as “foreigners,” for example). The rabbi opens his argument by recalling that trade and usury are the only occupations permitted to Jews. Within the confines of their historical situation, the Venetian Jews became particularly skilled at trade with partners from the Eastern Mediterranean countries. Luzzatto’s argument is that this talent could be put at the service of the Venetian government in order to maintain – or, more accurately, recover – its political importance as an intermediary between East and West. He was the first to define the role of the Jews on the basis of their economic and social functions, disregarding the classic categorisation of Judaism’s alleged privileged religious status in world history. Nonetheless, going beyond the socio-economic arguments of the book, it is essential to point out Luzzatto’s resort to sceptical strategies in order to plead in defence of the Venetian Jews. It is precisely his philosophical and political scepticism that makes Luzzatto’s texts so unique. This edition aims to grant access to his works and thought to English-speaking readers and scholars. By approaching his texts from this point of view, the editors hope to open a new path in research into Jewish culture and philosophy that will enable other scholars to develop new directions and new perspectives, stressing the interpenetration between Jews and the surrounding Christian and secular cultures.

Book Synopsis The Imagined Immigrant by : Ilaria Serra
Download or read book The Imagined Immigrant written by Ilaria Serra and published by Fairleigh Dickinson Univ Press. This book was released on 2009 with total page 315 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Using original sources--such as newspaper articles, silent movies, letters, autobiographies, and interviews--Ilaria Serra depicts a large tapestry of images that accompanied mass Italian migration to the U.S. at the turn of the twentieth century. She chooses to translate the Italian concept of immaginario with the Latin imago that felicitously blends the double English translation of the word as "imagery" and "imaginary." Imago is a complex knot of collective representations of the immigrant subject, a mental production that finds concrete expression; impalpable, yet real. The "imagined immigrant" walks alongside the real one in flesh and rags.

Download or read book On Tyranny written by Leo Strauss and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 2013-11-15 with total page 359 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On Tyranny is Leo Strauss’s classic reading of Xenophon’s dialogue Hiero, or Tyrannicus, in which the tyrant Hiero and the poet Simonides discuss the advantages and disadvantages of exercising tyranny. Included are a translation of the dialogue from its original Greek, a critique of Strauss’s commentary by the French philosopher Alexandre Kojève, and the complete correspondence between the two. This revised and expanded edition introduces important corrections throughout and expands Strauss’s restatement of his position in light of Kojève’s commentary to bring it into conformity with the text as it was originally published in France.
