Download or read book Cy Twombly Gallery written by Cy Twombly and published by Yale University Press. This book was released on 2013 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A visual celebration of one of the most renowned artists of our time, along with the extraordinary Gallery he helped to create to showcase his work American artist Cy Twombly (1928-2011) created paintings and sculptures that defied conventional classification. In his works, Twombly incorporated a wide variety of elements, from scrawls and calligraphic marks to text from poetry and mythology. Opening in 1995, the Cy Twombly Gallery at the Menil Collection was designed by Renzo Piano and has become a pilgrimage destination for the artist's avid admirers. The product of close collaboration between the Menil, Twombly, and the Dia Center for the Arts, the Gallery is one of the most extraordinary representations of any single 20th-century artist. Twombly chose the art that would be featured and worked closely with the builders to create the most appropriate venue for its presentation. This sumptuous volume showcases thirty-three paintings and eleven sculptures, including an immense 13 x 52-foot painting. Featuring large-scale, close-up details of many of the works, the book looks at paint, plaster, paintings, sculptures, and the "cues" that Twombly gave in his art about this special collection. Published in association with the Twombly Foundation and the Menil Collection
Book Synopsis Valentin Serov by : Dmitri V. Sarabianov
Download or read book Valentin Serov written by Dmitri V. Sarabianov and published by Parkstone International. This book was released on 2012-01-17 with total page 343 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

This book was released on 2022-07-31 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 1860s were marked by a strong realistic movement in Russian painting. Artists became interested in depicting the lives and customs of their fellow countrymen. This new art form was mostly the work of the Itinerants group, who wanted to take art to the people and paint the outdoors. Mikhail Guerman traces the converging lines of Russian and French art in the immensely fertile period of the late 19th and early 20th century.

Download or read book Raphael written by Catherine Whistler and published by Ashmolean Museum Oxford. This book was released on 2017 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The selection of drawings demonstrates how Raphael created a specific mode of visual invention and persuasive communication through drawing. He used drawing both as conceptual art (including brainstorming sheets) and as a practice based on attentive observation (such as drawing from the posed model). Yet Raphael's drawings also reveal how the process of drawing in itself, with its gestural rhythms and spontaneity, can be a form of thought, generating new ideas. The Oxford exhibition will present drawings that span Raphael's entire career, encompassing many of his major projects and exploring his visual language from inventive ideas to full compositions. The extraordinary range of drawings by Raphael in the Ashmolean and the Albertina, enhanced by appropriate loans, will enable this exhibition to cast new light on this familiar artist, transforming our understanding of Raphael's art.
Book Synopsis Impressionism in Russia by : The Museum Barberini
Download or read book Impressionism in Russia written by The Museum Barberini and published by National Geographic Books. This book was released on 2021-01-26 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Explore the influence of Impressionism on Russian painters at the end of the 19th century and early 20th century. In the late 19th century, numerous Russian artists found inspiration in the style of French Impressionist painters. Often, a journey to Paris acted as a catalyst for their burgeoning interest in the movement. They developed a preference for working en plein air and aimed to capture transitory effects through a spontaneous and free handling of the brush. Many leading painters of the later Russian avant-garde arrived at their individual styles due to studying the Impressionist use of light. This lavishly illustrated volume explores the many-layered ways French Impressionism influenced the evolution of Russian art from the 1880s to the 1920s, including the work of painters as diverse as Ilya Repin, Valentin Serov, Konstantin Korovin, Natalia Goncharova, and Kazimir Malevich. Essays by many of the leading scholars in the field provide rich new insights into one of the most intriguing chapters of Russian modernism.
