Book excerpt: Each phase of Arab-Israeli peacemaking has been inordinately difficult in its own right, and every critical juncture and decision point in the long process has been shaped by U.S. politics and the U.S. leaders of the moment. The Peace Puzzle tracks the American determination to articulate policy, develop strategy and tactics, and see through negotiations to agreements on an issue that has been of singular importance to U.S. interests for more than forty years. In 2006, the authors of The Peace Puzzle formed the Study Group on Arab-Israeli Peacemaking, a project supported by the United States Institute of Peace, to develop a set of "best practices" for American diplomacy. The Study Group conducted in-depth interviews with more than 120 policymakers, diplomats, academics, and civil society figures and developed performance assessments of the various U.S. administrations of the post–Cold War period. This book, an objective account of the role of the United States in attempting to achieve a lasting Arab–Israeli peace, is informed by the authors’ access to key individuals and official archives.

Book excerpt: The Puzzle of Peace moves beyond defining peace as the absence of war and develops a broader conceptualization and explanation for the increasing peacefulness of the international system. The authors track the rise of peace as a new phenomenon in international history starting after 1945. International peace has increased because international society has developed a set of norms dealing with territorial conflict, by far the greatest source of international war over previous centuries. These norms prohibit the use of military force in resolving territorial disputes and acquiring territory, thereby promoting border stability. This includes the prohibition of the acquisition of territory by military means as well as attempts by secessionist groups to form states through military force. International norms for managing international conflict have been accompanied by increased mediation and adjudication as means of managing existing territorial conflicts.

Book excerpt: Mankind has been struggling since Thucydides to understand the origins of war. Within the last quarter-century, however, many of the pieces of the war puzzle have begun to fall into place. This book builds on the available evidence and offers an important original theory as to the cause of war and means for its control. In doing so, the book simultaneously offers a new theory of international relations, bridging the gap between classical realism and idealism in international relations. The author, a former United States Ambassador, directs the Center for National Security Law at the University of Virginia and was the founding Chairman of the United States Institute of Peace. "Solving the War Puzzle may be the most insightful and important examination of the causes of war since Clausewitz published On War in 1832. This slim volume, precisely written, superbly researched, and elegantly presented, carefully evaluates, integrates, and synthesizes the multiple elements the confluence of which results in armed conflict." -- James P. Terry, Col., U.S. Marine Corps, Ret. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State and former Legal Counsel to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff "[Solving the War Puzzle] offers a useful framework for stimulating further reflection on the causes of war. This slim volume is supplemented with extensive notes and an ample biography." -- CHOICE Magazine

We risk going through life repeating many of the same mistakes and living a very meager one-dimensional life. But we can rely on the truth of the Word of God to give us the balancing mechanism necessary to stay grounded and on the right path. Don't just seek answers, but seek the truth. Many people have fragmented and compartmentalized pieces of the truth, but this book shows you how to bring it all together: from raising children to relating to your co-workers to getting involved politically. This how-to book will help you to create a firm foundation on which you can build a principled life--P. [4] of cover.

Using Bible references, it will be shown what has been going on since the beginning of time.Laura was prompted by the Lord to write a very different book than she originally planned. God said, it is important for people to understand why there are secret societies and what they are involved with at a global level. Secret societies include many groups, but this book addresses four groups specifically: Satanism, Illuminati, Military, and Witchcraft. It is important for a survivor or therapist to understand the specific pieces and patterns that go into the programming of a person that has been under the control of these groups. When all the pieces are understood; healing, peace, and freedom can be found. This book takes an in depth look at the programming methods, purposes, and outcomes. Laura is a survivor who shows others how to survive and thrive. She shares some of her experience, but this book is full of information that has been hidden for way too long! It is time for the darkness to be brought into the light. Truth and love are the most powerful forces on earth. Finally, all the pieces of the puzzle are revealed!
