Book Synopsis Design for Configuration by : Asko Riitahuhta
Download or read book Design for Configuration written by Asko Riitahuhta and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2001 with total page 610 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains the contributions presented in the 5th WDK Workshop on Product Structuring in Tampere, Finland, in February 2000. Special theme was Design for Configuration. Besides the papers it includes developed summaries from the discussions of the expert group. Thus, the book provides the reader with a review of the latest discussion in the ongoing process of Product Structuring. Even though the meeting was of academic nature, the papers include many practical examples of industrial applications. In order to give a comprehensive picture of the aspects of Design for Configuration the papers are organised in four sections: - Analysis of customers, markets and technology; - Development of product portfolios and module systems; - Metrics and methods for modularity and configurability; - Supporting modeling and IT-tools. This book is the first publication of the newly established Design Society.

Book Synopsis Infrastructures for Virtual Enterprises by : Luis M. Camarinha-Matos
Download or read book Infrastructures for Virtual Enterprises written by Luis M. Camarinha-Matos and published by Springer. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 506 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The area of virtual organizations, and industrial virtual enterprises in particular, is attracting a large and growing interest both in terms of the research and development and the implementation of new business practices. An ever-increasing number of international projects and national initiatives have been launched recently. Most of the earlier efforts are focused on the development of supporting infrastructures, although more and more initiatives now pursue the exploitation of this concept in business terms. Being a recent research and development area, and in spite of the mentioned interest, there is a lack of a structured and comprehensive text that can be used as a reference source. Most available literature is dispersed in several conference proceedings, journals, and book chapters. This book represents an attempt towards such structured text. Although the book was prepared in the framework of PRO-VE'99, a working conference on infrastructures for virtual enterprises organized by the Esprit project PRODNET II and IFIP, it has the goal of covering more generic VE requirements and addressing several other approaches and important aspects in this paradigm.

Book Synopsis Advances in Conceptual Modeling by : Peter P. Chen
Download or read book Advances in Conceptual Modeling written by Peter P. Chen and published by Springer. This book was released on 2007-07-16 with total page 402 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The objective of the workshops associated with the ER'99 18th International Conference on Conceptual Modeling is to give participants access to high level presentations on specialized, hot, or emerging scientific topics. Three themes have been selected in this respect: — Evolution and Change in Data Management (ECDM'99) dealing with han dling the evolution of data and data structure, — Reverse Engineering in Information Systems (REIS'99) aimed at exploring the issues raised by legacy systems, — The World Wide Web and Conceptual Modehng (WWWCM'99) which ana lyzes the mutual contribution of WWW resources and techniques with con ceptual modeling. ER'99 has been organized so that there is no overlap between conference ses sions and the workshops. Therefore participants can follow both the conference and the workshop presentations they are interested in. I would like to thank the ER'99 program co-chairs, Jacky Akoka and Mokrane Bouzeghoub for having given me the opportunity to organize these workshops. I would also like to thank Stephen Liddle for his valuable help in managing the evaluation procedure for submitted papers and helping to prepare the workshop proceedings for publication. August 1999 Jacques Kouloumdjian Preface for ECDM'99 The first part of this volume contains the proceedings of the First International Workshop on Evolution and Change in Data Management, ECDM'99, which was held in conjunction with the 18th International Conference on Conceptual Modehng (ER'99) in Paris, France, November 15-18, 1999.

Book Synopsis Integrative Document & Content Management by : Len Asprey
Download or read book Integrative Document & Content Management written by Len Asprey and published by IGI Global. This book was released on 2003-01-01 with total page 553 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Portals present unique strategic challenges in the academic environment. Their conceptualization and design requires the input of campus constituents who seldom interact and whose interests are often opposite. The implementation of a portal requires a coordination of applications and databases controlled by different campus units at a level that may never before have been attempted at the institution. Building a portal is as much about constructing intra-campus bridges as it is about user interfaces and content. Designing Portals: Opportunities and Challenges discusses the current status of portals in higher education by providing insight into the role portals play in an institution's business and educational strategy, by taking the reader through the processes of conceptualization, design, and implementation of the portals (in different stages of development) at major universities and by offering insight from three producers of portal software systems in use at institutions of higher learning and elsewhere.
