This book was released on 1991 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A conceptual framework was developed to guide the study. Data was obtained by interviewing ten adult patients recently transferred from two midwestern hospital critical care units. Four categories of perceptions were identified. These include overall perceptions, perceptions of equipment, perceptions of care and perceptions related to contacts with people. The experience produced fear related to unknown outcome and unit activity. Explanations were helpful in alleviating fear. Subjects perceived care as good and nurses as competent. Equipment made subjects feel secure, but was annoying and uncomfortable. Implications for nursing include a basis for critical care nurses to evaluate patient behaviors and plan holistic nursing care related to perceptions.
