Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this work is to review the current knowledge of laryngeal pathology in the light of my experience at the Institute of Laryngology and Otology, London. The role of histopathological investigations in the care of patients with diseases of the larynx is given special consideration. Radiologi cal study of the larynx has become more refined in recent years with the introduction of computerised tomography. Microlaryngoscopy with biopsy of the interior of the larynx is now a frequent procedure in the diagnosis of laryngeal disease. In the effort to interpret the findings resulting from these methods, the need for a monograph outlining the pathological basis of laryngeal disorders has arisen. To the best of my knowledge, such a work, devoted to the pathology of the larynx only, has never been written; a modern study in this field is certainly not available. I have aimed the text towards the practising pathologist in order to give it the broadest scope. It was necessary, therefore, to include an account of the basic anatomy of the larynx. For this purpose (and in subsequent descriptions throughout the book) I have not used the formal anatomical terminology for the two folds on either side of the ventricle of the larynx. There is some variation in the use of these terms, and they are not yet completely in general use.

A classic work, now in its sixth edition, Clinical Voice Pathology: Theory and Management is a compilation of the authors' vast clinical and research experiences and addresses a considerable range of voice disorders in various populations and from various etiologies including medical, environmental, social, psychological, occupational, and idiopathic threats to vocal health. The text continues to be organized for the graduate speech-language pathology student and instructor, building the foundational knowledge necessary to evaluate and treat voice disorders including history and common causes of voice disorders, anatomy and physiology of voice production, pathologies of the vocal mechanism, and an extensive array of evaluation and management approaches. In addition, the text continues to provide background in caring for the professional voice and those patients presenting with head and neck cancers. New to the Sixth EditionA new chapter introducing the SLP's responsibilities with trach and vent patientsUpdated references throughout the text to reflect the current state of clinical research in evaluation and treatment of voice disordersExpanded voice therapy chapter including new evidence-based management approachesUse of 'Call Out' boxes throughout the text to highlight cases, encourage additional thought, and suggest additional readingsFull color throughout the text including new figures and artwork to enhance learning and understanding of the materialVideos of laryngeal pathologies Whether a typical voice user, occupational voice user, elite vocal performer, head and neck cancer patient, or an individual who has lost the ability to communicate competently and confidently due to a detrimental voice change, each patient presents a unique diagnostic dilemma: how best to return the voice to its optimal condition? This text thoroughly prepares the speech-language pathology student to answer this question through a systematic development of the knowledge base necessary to evaluate and manage voice disorders. With numerous full-color images and multiple case examples Clinical Voice Pathology: Theory and Management, Sixth Edition, not only maintains but significantly improves on the standards set by its previous editions as the primary text for a graduate level course in clinical voice disorders. Book excerpt: This concise reference book provides an international standard for pathologists and oncologists and will serve as an indispensable guide for use in the design of studies monitoring response to therapy and clinical outcome. Diagnostic criteria, pathological features, and associated genetic alterations are described in a strictly disease-oriented manner. Sections on all WHO-recognized neoplasms and their variants include new ICD-O codes, incidence, age and sex distribution, location, clinical signs and symptoms, pathology, genetics, and predictive factors. This volume covers tumours of the nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses, of the nasopharynx, of the hypophyranyx, larynx and trachea, of the oral cavity and oropharynx, of salivary glands, as well as odontogenetic tumours, tumours of the ear, the paraganglionic system, and inherited tumour syndromes. Each entity is extensively discussed with information on clinicopathological, epidemiological, immunophenotypic and genetic aspects of these diseases.
