Book excerpt: Like a Human Butterfly, through the different passages and lessons of her life, Elaina seeks with courage and passion to balance her wings between the Real World and the Spirit World and connect them to the centre of her heart, arousing her ultimate state of spiritual light to take her flight . . . beyond the horizon . . . and share it with the universe . . . This is Elaina's story, and your story: journeying through aeons in search of that initial understanding and the awakening of the first “Spark of Light” from the origin of times, where the Infinite gave birth to the Finite. It is the story of Elaina's fallen innocence during her exploration on Earth - her challenges with self-love, self-doubt and her faith in the powers of Light. We are living in times of "great change". We have heard this for many years and we have been told this by many powerful and ancient prophecies. We feel it swelling in our own souls. The time has come to end the old paradigms and the dreaming of the new reality, and create a new world on Earth with a real connection to the Heart. Ignite the wings of your Human Butterfly with Love and join Elaina in her flight to Luminae!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: John Kasper was a militant far-right activist who first came to prominence with his violent campaigns against desegregation in the Civil Rights era. Ezra Pound was the seminal figure in Anglo-American modernist literature and one of the most important poets of the 20th century. This is the first book to comprehensively explore the extensive correspondence - lasting over a decade and numbering hundreds of letters - between the two men. John Kasper and Ezra Pound examines the mutual influence the two men exerted on each other in Pound's later life: how John Kasper developed from a devotee of Pound's poetry to an active right-wing agitator; how Pound's own ideas about race and American politics developed in his discussions with Kasper and how this informed his later poetry. Shedding a disturbing new light on Ezra Pound's committed engagement with extreme right-wing politics in Civil Rights-era America, this is an essential read for students of 20th-century literature.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present text was envisioned as a supplement to eXlstmg texts on human neuropathology, covering only those aspects of pediatric neuropathol ogy which pertain to and are peculiar of the immature nervous system. No coverage-or only brief comment-is given to diseases commonly found in adults which may, on occasion, occur in childhood or infancy as well. The subject matter is divided into three main categories: 1. The "acquired" lesions dating to the fetal, perinatal or early postnatal periods, 2. the malformations, and 3. the heritable metabolic defects. The first 6 chapters (2-7) are reserved to the lesions most intimately linked to the circumstances of birth. There is some inherent ambiguity in distinguishing between "acquired" lesions and malformations, as, indeed, no sharp distinction can be made between one and the other. Many malformations result from diseases acquired during fetal life and their peculiarity resides in the fact that the organ becomes affected before its development terminates and in such a way that its subsequent development becomes deranged or partly abrogated. A variety of causes acting at the same developmental period or over a common pathogenetic mechanism may produce the same type of derangement, including chemical, physical, infectious or genetic factors, as pointed out repeatedly in the text. Consequently, the definition of a malformation, as differing from an "acquired" residual lesion was made dependant on evidence for the derangement of developmental pro cesses subsequent to the acquisition of the disease.

Tilla, bastard of House Kent, has it made. Safe from her murderous father in the dazzling capital of Lightspire, she lives a life of luxury under the protection of the Volaris King, alongside her boyfriend, Zell, and best friend, Princess Lyriana. So why isn't she happy? Maybe it's the whispers and stares that follow her wherever she goes, as the daughter of the traitor waging war against Lightspire. Or maybe it's the memories of her beloved brother, Jax, who lies cold in his grave even as she tries to settle into a life in the city's prestigious University. Then Tilla stumbles upon the body of a classmate -- a friend. The authorities are quick to rule it a suicide and sweep it under the rug, but when Tilla herself is attacked by a mysterious man with terrifying powers, she's convinced of a conspiracy. Her friends beg her to stay silent; what she's suggesting is impossible...and treasonous. The deeper she digs, the more questions she uncovers. Nothing is as it seems in the glorious capital, and Tilla's presence might just be the spark that sets the Kingdom aflame.

Book excerpt: Join an epic, action-packed magical adventure, full of conspiracies and danger, in the Royal Bastards fantasy series. Royal Bastards: Being a bastard blows. Tilla would know. Her father, Lord Kent of the Western Province, loved her as a child, but cast her aside as soon as he had trueborn children. At sixteen, Tilla spends her days exploring long-forgotten tunnels beneath the castle with her stablehand half-brother, Jax, and her nights drinking with the servants, passing out on Jax's floor while her castle bedroom collects dust. Tilla longs to sit by her father's side, enjoying feasts with the rest of the family. Instead, she sits with the other bastards, like Miles of House Hampstedt, an awkward scholar who's been in love with Tilla since they were children. The bastards band together, realizing they alone have the power to prevent a civil war that will tear their kingdom apart—if they can warn the king in time.... City of Bastards: Tilla is safe from her murderous father in the dazzling capital of Lightspire, where she lives a life of luxury under the protection of the Volaris King, alongside her boyfriend, Zell, and best friend, Princess Lyriana. Her friends beg her to stay silent; what she's suggesting is impossible...and treasonous. The deeper she digs, the more questions she uncovers.... War of the Bastards: A year has passed since the fall of Lightspire. The Inquisitor Miles Hampstedt rules Noveris with a blood-soaked iron fist. Tilla and her friends have become hardened rebels in the Unbroken, a band of guerilla fighters hiding out on the fringes of the Kingdom protecting the true queen, Lyriana Volaris. Even as they fight, they know their cause is doomed—that with every passing day Miles's army of Bloodmages spreads across the continent. But at least they have each other...and some halfway-decent drinks. With Miles's forces closing in, a ragtag team sets out on an eleventh-hour mission: form an alliance with Syan's people that could turn the tide of the war. But what they discover in the Red Wastes changes everything, including their very understanding of the magic that runs through Noveris. In the heart-pounding conclusion to the Royal Bastards trilogy, Tilla faces an impossible choice: unthinkable destruction in the name of peace...or an uncertain future that means confronting a terrible past.

Book excerpt: Étienne Gilson's Jean Duns Scot: Introduction À Ses Positions Fondamentales is widely understood to be one of the most important works on John Duns Scotus' texts, famous for their complexity. James Colbert's translation is the first time that Gilson's work on Scotus has been put into English, with an introduction by Trent Pomplun and an afterword by John Millbank. Scotus contributed to the development of a metaphysical system that was compatible with Christian doctrine, an epistemology that altered the 13th century understanding of human knowledge, and a theology that stressed both divine and human will. Gilson, in turn, offers a thoroughly comprehensive introduction to the fundamental positions that Scotus stood for. Explaining Scotus's views on metaphysics, the existence of infinite being and divine nature, the matter of the physical spiritual and angelic, intellectual knowledge and will and Scotus' relationship with other scholars, Gilson and Colbert show how deeply Scotus left a mark on discussions of such disparate topics as the semantics of religious language, the problem of universals, divine illumination, and the nature of human freedom. This work has been translated from the original work in French Jean Duns Scot. Introduction à ses positions fondamentales (© 1952 by Librairie Philosophique J. Vrin).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book constitutes a unique, encyclopedic reference work that systematizes and categorizes for the first time in such comprehensive fashion all known fern spores. The dominant feature of the work are the over 350 plates of electron micrographs showing the morphological characteristics of typical representatives of each spore type. The purpose of the book is to provide a complete survey of the available data on the fine structure and composition, development, and evolu- tionary significance of different types of spore walls, which have proven resistant to fossilization throughout geological ages. The classification system developed by the authors as the result of many years of research will be a point of reference, if not "the" systematic basis, for all future publication on the subject. The book will be of great interest to all botanists and evolutionary biologists working with spores and/or ferns, but it will also be of major importance to paleobotanists, palynologists, stratigraphers, and exploration geologists, since the focus of this treatise is on spores as highly adapted and longlived reproductive forms.
