Book excerpt: This book offers a unique perspective on cosmopolitanism, examining the ways it is constructed and reconstructed on the small scale in an ongoing process of matching the local with the global, a process entailing mutual transformation. Based on a wide range of literatures and a series of case studies, it analyzes the different versions and functions of cosmopolitanism and points to the need to critically re-examine current conceptions of globalization. The book first illustrates the interplay between networks and narratives in the construction of cosmopolitan communities in three specific cities: Trieste, Odessa and Tbilisi. Each has a past more cosmopolitan than the present and each uses that cosmopolitan past to guide them towards the future. Next, the book focuses on narrative dynamics by isolating several discourses on the cosmopolitan place and figure in European cultural history. It then goes on to detail the internal representations and local functions of larger wholes in smaller communities, shedding a new light on issues of inter- disciplinary interest: self- governance, participation, local knowledge, social memory, scale, planning and development. Of interest to political scientists, anthropologists, economists, geographers and philosophers, this book offers an insightful contribution to theories of globalization and global/ local interaction, bringing the local discursive mechanics into sharper focus and also emphasizing the semi- autonomous character of narrative constructions of self and community in a larger world.

It is for everyone who has ever been delivered from shame and disgrace, and then found themselves in the same mess all over again, no matter how hard they tried. It is for everyone who has suffered abuse, lost spouse, children, friends, job, and possessions trying to find themselves in this world. It is for everyone who finds themselves perpetually asking, “Why me? Why am I here? Will I ever make it?” Hopefully, this book will provide the answers you seek. You will discover that God is real. He is still as active and potent in our day and in our individual lives as He was in the days of the Bible. You will find that he is the healer of hearts, binder of wounds, and restorer of lost lives and fortunes. He flows through our lives and fills every part of it with His relentless and wild love. This book will not only change the way you see God in your life, it will give you hope, encourage your heart and deepen your relationship with Him.

Book excerpt: SAINT ATHANASIUS OF ALEXANDRIA COLLECTION [5 BOOKS] — Quality Formatting and Value — Active Index, Multiple Table of Contents for all Books — Multiple Illustrations Saint Athanasius of Alexandria, also called Athanasius the Great, Athanasius the Confessor or, primarily in the Coptic Orthodox Church, Athanasius the Apostolic, was the twentieth bishop of Alexandria (as Athanasius I). His episcopate lasted 45 years (c. 8 June 328 – 2 May 373), of which over 17 were spent in five exiles ordered by four different Roman emperors. Athanasius is a renowned Christian theologian, a Church Father, the chief defender of Trinitarianism against Arianism, and a noted Egyptian leader of the fourth century. Conflict with Arius and Arianism as well as successive Roman emperors shaped Athanasius's career. In 325, at the age of 27, Athanasius began his leading role against the Arians as a deacon and assistant to Bishop Alexander of Alexandria during the First Council of Nicaea. Roman emperor Constantine the Great had convened the council in May–August 325 to address the Arian position that the Son of God, Jesus of Nazareth, is of a distinct substance from the Father. Three years after that council, Athanasius succeeded his mentor as archbishop of Alexandria. In addition to the conflict with the Arians, he struggled against the Emperors Constantine, Constantius II, Julian the Apostate and Valens. He was known as "Athanasius Contra Mundum". —BOOKS— AGAINST THE HEATHEN LATER TREATISES OF SAINT ATHANASIUS SELECT TREATISES OF SAINT ATHANASIUS THE FESTAL EPISTLES OF SAINT ATHANASIUS THE PARADISE OF THE HOLY FATHERS PUBLISHER: AETERNA PRESS

In his latest book, prolific author Vern Poythress investigates the foundations and limitations of Western philosophy, sketching a distinctly Christian approach to answering basic questions about the nature of humanity, the existence of God, the search for meaning, and the basis for morality. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a clear, comprehensive, and compelling description of the nature, characteristics, and prerequisites of wisdom-led leadership. It not only includes a detailed description of what is meant by wisdom-led leadership but also it describes how wisdom-led leadership can be developed based on current research data. In other words, practical ways to promote wisdom-led leadership are described. In addition, a metaphysical foundation in support of wisdom-led leadership is provided along with a detailed analysis of how this form of leadership can better prepare the leader to confidently and capably attend to their relational and organisational development demands, which are pivotal to their success. Finally, the fundamentally important and influential external issues of performance management, vision, goals, and accountability are discussed at length with respect to their potentially detrimental impact on the achievement of wisdom-led leadership. Embracing wisdom-led leadership does not mean that we have to forgo what performance management, vision, goals, and accountability procedures seek to achieve. It just means that these desired outcomes need to be achieved differently.
