Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recently, there has appeared a new type of evaluating partial differential equations with Volterra integral operators in various practical areas. Such equations possess new physical and mathematical properties. This monograph systematically discusses application of the finite element methods to numerical solution of integrodifferential equations. It will be useful for numerical analysts, mathematicians, physicists and engineers. Advanced undergraduates and graduate students should also find it beneficial.

Book excerpt: This volume consists of a collection of 14 accepted submissions (including several invited feature articles) to the Special Issue of MDPI's journal Symmetry on the general subject area of integral transformations, operational calculus and their applications from many different parts around the world. The main objective of the Special Issue was to gather review, expository, and original research articles dealing with the state-of-the-art advances in integral transformations and operational calculus as well as their multidisciplinary applications, together with some relevance to the aspect of symmetry. Various families of fractional-order integrals and derivatives have been found to be remarkably important and fruitful, mainly due to their demonstrated applications in numerous diverse and widespread areas of mathematical, physical, chemical, engineering, and statistical sciences. Many of these fractional-order operators provide potentially useful tools for solving ordinary and partial differential equations, as well as integral, differintegral, and integro-differential equations; fractional-calculus analogues and extensions of each of these equations; and various other problems involving special functions of mathematical physics and applied mathematics, as well as their extensions and generalizations in one or more variables.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Special Interest Categories: Pure and applied mathematics, physics, optimisation and control, mechanics and engineering, nonlinear programming, economics, finance, transportation and elasticity. The usual method used in studying nonlinear problems such as topological method, variational method and others are generally only suited to the nonlinear problems with continuity and compactness. However, a lots of the problems appeared in theory and applications have no continuity and compactness, For example, differential equations and integral equations in infinite dimensional spaces, various equations defined on unbounded region are generally having no compactness. The problems can been divided into three types as follows: (1) Without using compact conditions but only using some inequalities related to some ordering, the existence and uniqueness of the fixed point for increasing operators, decreasing operators and mixed monotone operators, and the convergence of the iterative sequence are obtained. Also, these results have been used to nonlinear integral equations defined on unbounded regions. (2) Without using continuity conditions but only using a very relaxed weakly compact conditions, some new fixed point theorem of increasing operators are obtained. We have applied these results to nonlinear equations with discontinuous terms. (3) They systemly use the partial ordering methods to nonlinear integro-differential equations (include impulsive type) in Banach space.

The fruit of the project 'Analysis in Developing Countries', whose aim was to bring together researchers from around the world, the volume also includes some contributions from researchers from developed countries. Focusing on topics in analysis related to partial differential equations, this volume contains selected contributions from the activities of the project at Imperial College London, namely the conference on Analysis and Partial Differential Equations held in September 2016 and the subsequent Official Development Assistance Week held in November 2016. Topics represented include Fourier analysis, pseudo-differential operators, integral equations, as well as related topics from numerical analysis and bifurcation theory, and the countries represented range from Burkina Faso and Ghana to Armenia, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, including contributions from Brazil, Colombia and Cuba, as well as India and China. Suitable for postgraduate students and beyond, this volume offers the reader a broader, global perspective of contemporary research in analysis.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Transmutation operators in differential equations and spectral theory can be used to reveal the relations between different problems, and often make it possible to transform difficult problems into easier ones. Accordingly, they represent an important mathematical tool in the theory of inverse and scattering problems, of ordinary and partial differential equations, integral transforms and equations, special functions, harmonic analysis, potential theory, and generalized analytic functions. This volume explores recent advances in the construction and applications of transmutation operators, while also sharing some interesting historical notes on the subject.

Book excerpt: Linear and Nonlinear Integral Equations: Methods and Applications is a self-contained book divided into two parts. Part I offers a comprehensive and systematic treatment of linear integral equations of the first and second kinds. The text brings together newly developed methods to reinforce and complement the existing procedures for solving linear integral equations. The Volterra integral and integro-differential equations, the Fredholm integral and integro-differential equations, the Volterra-Fredholm integral equations, singular and weakly singular integral equations, and systems of these equations, are handled in this part by using many different computational schemes. Selected worked-through examples and exercises will guide readers through the text. Part II provides an extensive exposition on the nonlinear integral equations and their varied applications, presenting in an accessible manner a systematic treatment of ill-posed Fredholm problems, bifurcation points, and singular points. Selected applications are also investigated by using the powerful Padé approximants. This book is intended for scholars and researchers in the fields of physics, applied mathematics and engineering. It can also be used as a text for advanced undergraduate and graduate students in applied mathematics, science and engineering, and related fields. Dr. Abdul-Majid Wazwaz is a Professor of Mathematics at Saint Xavier University in Chicago, Illinois, USA.

It contains the first systematic presentation of a general approach to the integration of singularly perturbed differential equations describing nonuniform transitions, such as the occurrence of a boundary layer, discontinuities, boundary effects and so on. The method of regularization of singular perturbations presented here can be applied to the asymptotic integration of systems of ordinary and partial differential equations.
