Download or read book Parallel Systems And Algorithms: Pasa '96 - Proceedings Of The 4th Workshop written by Ernst W Mayr and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1997-02-20 with total page 342 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The PASA Workshops aim to build a bridge between theory and practice in the area of parallel systems and algorithms. Practical problems which require theoretical investigations as well as the applicability of theoretical approaches and results to practice are discussed. A particularly important aspect is the communication and exchange of experiences between various groups working in various areas of parallel computing, e.g. computer science, electrical engineering, physics and mathematics. This volume discusses many aspects of parallel computing from a theoretical as well as a practice-oriented point of view. It shows that there are a number of promising approaches for the application of formal methods to the solution of practical problems in the area of parallel systems and algorithms.
Download or read book ACRI ’96 written by S. Bandini and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 205 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ACRI'96 is the second conference on Cellular Automata for Research and Industry; the first one was held in Rende (Cosenza), on September 29-30, 1994. This second edition confirms the growing interest in Cellular Automata currently present both in the scientific community and within the industrial applications world. Cellular Automata-based computational models, besides capturing the attention of scientists working in different fields, open new perspectives of intersection between different and historically distant areas of scientific knowledge, from Physics to Biology, to Computer Science. ACRI'96 aims at providing a forum both for researchers working in the Cellular Automata field, and for those who foresee the possibility to verify on concrete domains of application the impact of their solutions, as well as for those who are looking for a possibility of reflection upon the specific concept of parallel and distributed computation provided by Cellular Automata. This book contains the works presented at the conference. The invited papers cover different aspects of Cellular Automata. T. Worsch gives a classification of Cellular Automata mapping on the existent computational frameworks for the simulation of their behavior. One of the most mature areas where Cellular Automata showed their value is Physics: B. Chopard illustrates recent results on wave modeling, and some possible applications. According to the general purpose of ACRI'96 of transfering research results to the industrial world, F.
Book Synopsis High Performance Computing by : Mateo Valero
Download or read book High Performance Computing written by Mateo Valero and published by Springer. This book was released on 2003-06-29 with total page 610 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I wish to welcome all of you to the International Symposium on High Perf- mance Computing 2000 (ISHPC 2000) in the megalopolis of Tokyo. After having two great successes with ISHPC’97 (Fukuoka, November 1997) and ISHPC’99 (Kyoto, May 1999), many people have requested that the symposium would be held in the capital of Japan and we have agreed. I am very pleased to serve as Conference Chair at a time when high p- formance computing (HPC) has a signi?cant in?uence on computer science and technology. In particular, HPC has had and will continue to have a signi?cant - pact on the advanced technologies of the “IT” revolution. The many conferences and symposiums that are held on the subject around the world are an indication of the importance of this area and the interest of the research community. One of the goals of this symposium is to provide a forum for the discussion of all aspects of HPC (from system architecture to real applications) in a more informal and personal fashion. Today we are delighted to have this symposium, which includes excellent invited talks, tutorials and workshops, as well as high quality technical papers.
Book Synopsis Complex Interval Arithmetic and Its Applications by : Miodrag Petković
Download or read book Complex Interval Arithmetic and Its Applications written by Miodrag Petković and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 1998 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of this book is to present formulas and methods developed using complex interval arithmetic. While most of numerical methods described in the literature deal with real intervals and real vectors, there is no systematic study of methods in complex interval arithmetic. The book fills this gap. Several main subjects are considered: outer estimates for the range of complex functions, especially complex centered forms, the best approximations of elementary complex functions by disks, iterative methods for the inclusion by polynomial zeros including their implementation on parallel computers, the analysis of numerical stability of iterative methods by using complex interval arithmetic and numerical computation of curvilinear integrals with error bounds. Mainly new methods are presented developed over the last years, including a lot of very recent results by the authors some of which have not been published before.

Book excerpt: ETAPS’99 is the second instance of the European Joint Conferences on Theory and Practice of Software. ETAPS is an annual federated conference that was established in 1998 by combining a number of existing and new conferences. This year it comprises ve conferences (FOSSACS, FASE, ESOP, CC, TACAS), four satellite workshops (CMCS, AS, WAGA, CoFI), seven invited lectures, two invited tutorials, and six contributed tutorials. The events that comprise ETAPS address various aspects of the system - velopment process, including speci cation, design, implementation, analysis and improvement. The languages, methodologies and tools which support these - tivities are all well within its scope. Dieren t blends of theory and practice are represented, with an inclination towards theory with a practical motivation on one hand and soundly-based practice on the other. Many of the issues involved in software design apply to systems in general, including hardware systems, and the emphasis on software is not intended to be exclusive.

Some peculiarities of cellular automata are outlined in Chapter 2. The properties of various LGCA and special coding techniques are discussed in Chapter 3. Concepts from statistical mechanics (Chapter 4) provide the necessary theoretical background for LGCA and LBM. The properties of lattice Boltzmann models and a method for their construction are presented in Chapter 5.
Book Synopsis Partial Differential Equations by : Todor V. Gramchev
Download or read book Partial Differential Equations written by Todor V. Gramchev and published by Wiley-VCH. This book was released on 2000-02-22 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The applications of methods from microlocal analysis for PDE have been a fast developing area during the last years. The authors, both are well known in the community, publish for the first time some of their research results in a summarized form. The essential point of the approach is the use of the various types of approximate (asymptotic) solutions in the study of differential equations in the smooth and the Gevrey spaces. In this volume, the authors deal with the following themes: Microlocal properties of pseudodifferential operators with multiple characteristics of involutive type in the framework of the Sobolev spaces; Abstract schemes for constructing approximate solutions to linear partial differential equations with characteristics of constant multiplicity m greater than or equal 2 in the framework of Gevrey spaces; Local solvability, hypoellipticity and singular solutions in Gevrey spaces; Global Gevrey solvability on the torus for linear partial differential equations; Applications of asymptotic methods for local (non)solvability for quasihomogeneous operators; Applications of Airy asymptotic solutions to degenerate oblique derivative problems for second order strictly hyperbolic equations; Approximate Gevrey normal forms of analytic involutions and analytic glancing hypersurfaces with applications for effective stability estimates for billiard ball maps.
