These are done intentionally to help students break through their desire for logic and reason and thus become more open to enlightenment. And now cartoonist Guruprasad through his lively and entertaining illustrations injects much wit and humour into this modern interpretation of the age-old Zen Koans. He has spiced up each episode with his unique style- to these thought provoking and fascinating Zen koans - to be enjoyed by the young and old alike. The Zen Sheep - your inner Zen Master will give readers not only an insight into one of the greatest collection of Zen Koans, but have them rock-rolling in comic relief.

The children stayed with the Guru as his disciples (or Sishyas) in his Ashram (or Math), served him and learnt from him. Guru gave his students food and shelter besides education. The Guru also loved the disciples as his own children. They were like a family. It was just like a home for the disciples. Even Kings had to send their sons to a Guru. Paramananda was one such Guru. Actually he was the King's Guru and hence he was also called as the Rajguru. He had twelve disciples. All these disciples were innocent, gullible and extremely foolish. Their interactions were humorous and their acts were comic. One Guru - twelve foolish students was like a bundle of laughter and comedy. These funny tales are a part of South Indian (especially Telugu and Tamil) folklore and our stories are based on it. Read and enjoy..

Book excerpt: "There is hardly any book equal to Ways of Thinking of Eastern Peoples in terms of its thorough and systematic presentation of the intricate thought patterns of Asian peoples. The book not only is an essential reference for the student of Asian culture, but also for students of philosophy, religion, anthropology, and art, as it is an excellent source for aiding the student in gaining a deeper understanding of each facet of Oriental thought." --Isshi Yamada, Northwestern University "The clearest discussion and analysis of these complex subjects that I have found. My advanced undergraduate students find this work to be 'stimulating', 'challenging' and comprehensible.' The organization of the text enhances the usefulness of this volume, but it is the high quality of the scholarship that makes Ways of Thinking a most valuable addition to Asian studies and to the academic training of upper division students." --Ann B. Radwan, University of North Florida "I find Ways of thinking a most provocative source for exploring with my students certain basic themes in Eastern religion and culture. Used carefully, it is a most stimulating and effective source for tapping Eastern 'ways' at a fundamental level of inquiry." --Wilbur M. Fridell, University of California, Santa Barbara
