Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The palladium-catalyzed alkenylation of aromatic heterocycles has been achieved in a low yield using 02 as the sole reoxidant for palladium. The best catalyst system at present consists of 10% Pd(OAc)2 and 10% pyridine in toluene at 80 0C under one atm of oxygen. The reaction substrates are limited to electron-rich aromatic heterocycles and activated alkenes. The palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling of terminal alkynes and internal alkynes using our Pd(OAc)2/PPh3/pyridine catalyst system provides an efficient method to synthesize a variety of 1,3-enynes. The readily available and inexpensive ligand PPh3 is used and a relatively short reaction time is required. This process can tolerate much functionality and affords good to excellent yields.
