Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the practice of TCM, there is no complaint more common than pain. This text describes the treatment of pain syndromes according to the standard of care practiced among the professional Chinese medicine doctors in modern China. Because modern TCM in China commonly exists in an integrated environment, the topics include both patient-centered complaints such as “headache”, as well as Western designations such as “thoracic outlet syndrome”. In either case, the complaint immediately gives way to the most relevant information a practitioner needs including possible patterns and their patho-mechanisms, treatment principles, and point and herb prescriptions. Following the needs of the professional, learning opportunities are provided thanks to copious case studies written by experts in the field of pain management and internal medicine. Chapters then target students studying TCM with discussions that provide a deeper consideration of the topics. Each chapter also features a few multiple choice questions that challenge and assist in memorization.

The integration and harmony between the natural and built environments concerning modern architecture has long been discussed in Feng Shui, or more academically, Kan Yu. Based on Scientific Feng Shui for the Built Environment: Fundamentals and Case Studies published in 2011, this enhanced new edition has further taken into account the enhancements and new inputs in theories and applications. Emphasis is placed on two themes, sustainability and science. New case studies regarding sustainable design as viewed from a Feng Shui perspective, and integrated applications of different architectural models and their associations with Feng Shui concepts are added and elaborated. On science, other than exploring the new development of particle physics in relation to Feng Shui studies, a totally new approach to numerology and Luo Shu study based on modern linear algebra may bring readers new insight into the possibility of researching Feng Shui mathematically, in addition to the use of spherical trigonometry. This book offers a remarkable in-depth view of Feng Shui by integrating the historical theories with scientific explorations and examples of applications. It once again demonstrates that Feng Shui can be studied scientifically, and eventually scientific Feng Shui may become a new field of science in the academic world as well as a professional and orthodox discipline of architectural design for the built environment. Book excerpt: Chinese External Medicine is the branch of TCM concerned with diagnosis and treatment of conditions that affect the body’s surface, unlike TCM Internal Medicine whereby the focus is on internal organ systems. External medicine, or wai ke, refers to conditions that can be seen by the eye or palpated directly such as traumatic injuries, skin diseases, breast lumps, hemorrhoids, male genital problems and so on. Despite the common nature of many conditions covered by Chinese external medicine, until the publication of this book, little had been done to introduce these essential diagnostic and treatment methods to the West. Eight chapters in the text are devoted to the diagnosis and treatment of sores and ulcerations, breast conditions, goiter, skin lesions, sexually transmitted diseases, anorectal conditions, male urogenital conditions, peripheral vascular diseases and other external conditions, with 92 external conditions in total. Internal therapies, medicinal formulas, external applications, and acupuncture treatments are provided along with both Chinese pinyin and characters for easy reference. Sixty representative case studies are also presented here, making this book the first comprehensive English language text on Chinese External Medicine.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first book to set out a full range of research strategies for evaluating the clinical practice of acupuncture. Leading acupuncturists and researchers with international reputations share their expertise. They illustrate their descriptions with practical examples of what has worked and what has not. It outlines many of the key challenges in the field. These challenges relate to the nature of acupuncture and the gap between current research evidence and the actual experiences of acupuncturists in the field. By focusing the chapters on key research questions, rather than methods, the book has a user-friendly feel. Each chapter is easily accessible with brief explanations of research designs as well as vignettes of relevant past research. The book is based on a deep understanding of acupuncture, with its inherent complexity in practice, whether based on traditional principles or more modern concepts. By incorporating a more sophisticated understanding of the field, this book details a range of strategies aiming to develop the evidence base with the utmost rigour. It is the first book on acupuncture research to take this unique view, integrating the very best of evidence-based medicine with a genuine sensitivity to the discipline of acupuncture, from its traditional and holistic roots to its more modern interpretations.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1987, our first book Acupuncture: Textbook and Atlas received rave reviews (e.g., in New England Journal of Medicine). This prompted us to write this smaller, affordable version in order to reach a wider audience. The smaller format has been so successful that we are now into our fourth revised edition. This has given us the opportunity to update and improve the book. For example, nu merous new references to scientific advances have been added. Also the section on traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) was ad ded because it gives a more complete picture of the current prac tice of acupuncture. Acupuncture has come a long way since our first book in 1987. There has been a surge of interest in treating drug addictions by ear acupuncture in 450 centers world wide. The treatment of nau sea and vomiting has been so well tested (scientifically) that the FDA (USA) is considering making this the major indication for acupuncture in America. Research into its efficacy for neurologi cal and pulmonary diseases is also gaining credibility. No longer is chronic pain the only scientifically acceptable use for acupuncture (based on the endorphin mechanism).

This book was released on 2015-12-14 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although Master Tung's Acupuncture has been in the public domain since his untimely passing in 1975, very little information is available publicly on how to use the system in a practical and systematic way in English. In this book, I hope to guide my fellow colleagues into the intricacies of applying Master Tung Acupuncture in the clinic. Since I am also a practicing acupuncturist and deal with pain, women's health, and internal medicine problems quite frequently, I am sharing my clinical experience in this book and the "secret" of creating the protocols that I use daily, with modification. I also attempt to explain why I choose a particular protocol and the modification to it. In this book, I introduce what I consider the "Best" of Master Tung's Acupuncture. There are many books on Master Tung's Acupuncture which introduce all of the 740 Tung family points. but often these books may be too much for the beginner and do not let the beginner grasp useful concepts or how to use Master Tung's Acupuncture immediately and effectively. Most acupuncturists simply add the Tung points to their already memorized TCM Acupuncture point prescriptions, and as a result, make a mess out of their acupuncture. They do not have a simple and elegant rationale for using the system. In my teaching of Master Tung's Acupuncture, I always choose points that are painless, easily accessible, and have powerful immediate results.
