Drugless and non-invasive, it relieves pain in patients for whom nothing else has worked. First, it takes readers through Dr. Donald Rhodes' fascinating journey from his first RSD patient to the development of his unique treatment, to which more than 90% of patients respond. The majority become pain free. Next, several patients tell their own stories. If you suffer from chronic pain, you will recognize yourself in their accounts and will be encouraged by their praises of Dr. Rhodes, their Miracle Man. Finally, you will read a detailed explanation of the basic causes of chronic pain. This book exists because Dr. Rhodes' patients begged him to write it to help spread the word. They encourage everyone to read this book because chronic pain can strike without warning. If it hits you, you will know where to go first, not last. And they call for help to make this the gold standard in pain banishment.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A practical, effective, and inspiring guidebook for dealing with chronic pain • Explains how to reduce pain’s grip on the body and mind by changing your personal reaction to pain • Presents successful strategies from the author’s 25 years of coping with her own pain • Includes 55-minute CD of author’s key techniques for controlling pain In 1989, following surgery for a back injury, Jan Sadler was left in constant pain, with no hope of any further conventional treatment and no adequate prescription drug therapy. Rather than settle for a life of chronic suffering, she gave up her career teaching English and began an investigation into the self-treatment of her pain. Building on her skills as a teacher, she incorporated the pain management techniques she discovered into programs that would help other sufferers learn how to cope with pain and find truly effective relief from its debilitating effects. Sadler shows how we can reduce pain’s grip by changing our personal reactions to the pain we are feeling. Chronic pain keeps our attention fixed firmly on our anguish, which then feeds the painful reaction back into our perception of being in pain, creating a vicious cycle. By allowing our reaction to become one of relaxation and acceptance, the pain is dramatically lessened, both by the absence of a negative perception and by the infusion of relaxation into the point of pain. In Pain Relief without Drugs, Sadler provides easy-to-use self-help techniques that offer support and understanding in breaking pain’s cycle--from relaxation, visualization, and breathing techniques to setting goals, building self-esteem, and coping with pain flare-ups. The author’s 25 years of coping with her own pain and 16 years of teaching pain management techniques result in a book that is filled with practical activities and possibilities for a better life. The book is accompanied by a 55-minute CD narrated by the author of key techniques for controlling pain.

Book excerpt: For author Nancy Lee Klune, the nightmare began with a phone call from a stranger. The man, who identified himself as a family therapist, informed her that her son and daughter-in-law had decided that she was to have no further contact with them or their four children. This call set in motion a ten year journey of deep pain, emotional turmoil, and personal growth as she found ways to cope with this indescribable loss. Each inspirational chapter in Banished explores the dilemmas and challenges facing alienated parents and grandparents. Woven throughout are intensely personal accounts of the author’s own healing along with practical advice for those who suffer from family estrangement. She shares her process of healing, discussing everything from acceptance, forgiveness, gratitude, self-love, and the importance of letting go and honoring your own life. She reveals how she found joy and happiness again, despite the vacuum created by the absence of her adult child and grandchildren. Providing both straightforward assistance and much-needed empathy for those facing family alienation and estrangement, this book helps you move forward, while offering tools for healing and creating more love and peace in your life.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 1996 U.S. Immigration Reform and Responsibility Act has led to the forcible deportation of tens of thousands of Dominicans from the United States. Following thousands of these individuals over a seven-year period, David C. Brotherton and Luis Barrios use a unique combination of sociological and criminological reasoning to isolate the forces that motivate emigrants to leave their homeland and then commit crimes in the Unites States violating the very terms of their stay. Housed in urban landscapes rife with gangs, drugs, and tenuous working conditions, these individuals, the authors find, repeatedly play out a tragic scenario, influenced by long-standing historical injustices, punitive politics, and increasingly conservative attitudes undermining basic human rights and freedoms. Brotherton and Barrios conclude that a simultaneous process of cultural inclusion and socioeconomic exclusion best explains the trajectory of emigration, settlement, and rejection, and they mark in the behavior of deportees the contradictory effects of dependency and colonialism: the seductive draw of capitalism typified by the American dream versus the material needs of immigrant life; the interests of an elite security state versus the desires of immigrant workers and families to succeed; and the ambitions of the Latino community versus the political realities of those designing crime and immigration laws, which disadvantage poor and vulnerable populations. Filled with riveting life stories and uncommon ethnographic research, this volume relates the modern deportee's journey to broader theoretical studies in transnationalism, assimilation, and social control.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A community is defined not only by inclusion but also by exclusion. Seventeenth-century New England Puritans, themselves exiled from one society, ruthlessly invoked the law of banishment from another: over time, hundreds of people were forcibly excluded from this developing but sparsely settled colony. Nan Goodman suggests that the methods of banishment rivaled—even overpowered—contractual and constitutional methods of inclusion as the means of defining people and place. The law and rhetoric that enacted the exclusion of certain parties, she contends, had the inverse effect of strengthening the connections and collective identity of those that remained. Banished investigates the practices of social exclusion and its implications through the lens of the period's common law. For Goodman, common law is a site of negotiation where the concepts of community and territory are more fluid and elastic than has previously been assumed for Puritan society. Her legal history brings fresh insight to well-known as well as more obscure banishment cases, including those of Anne Hutchinson, Roger Williams, Thomas Morton, the Quakers, and the Indians banished to Deer Island during King Philip's War. Many of these cases were driven less by the religious violations that may have triggered them than by the establishment of rules for membership in a civil society. Law provided a language for the Puritans to know and say who they were—and who they were not. Banished reveals the Puritans' previously neglected investment in the legal rhetoric that continues to shape our understanding of borders, boundaries, and social exclusion.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Back pain results in thousands of lost working hours every year and impacts on the quality of life. In spite of the debilitating pain, there is little effective treatment. Patients are often informed that the pain will go away eventually but this doesn't help when the pain prevents you from completing even the simplest tasks of daily living. In many cases back pain is due to a degenerating condition and it has oft been thought that many causes of back pain such as osteoporosis or intervertebral disk problems are irreversible. is this correct? The author, formerly in orthopaedics herself, looks at the common causes of back pain, providing explanations for why they occur and more importantly how you can build a better, stronger and pain free back. She provides an effective treatment plan which works for the immediate pain but also begins to reverse the nutritional deficiencies which caused the pain in the first place. Research shows that by including correct nutritional substances, pain begins to dissipate as the underlying issues are addressed. Back pain is not just about taking enough calcium and vitamin D though. There are many other vital nutrients which are essential to build up healthy bones and cartilage. Any one that is missing can prevent others from functioning in the way that they were designed to. This is a book for those who suffer back pain and want to know how to banish it. The book specifically covers common, but painful, back conditions such as sciatica, lumbago, osteoporosis and osteoarthritis and is a useful handbook for anyone who has been unable to obtain relief for these conditions. .
