Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Transmission Lines and Wave Propagation, Fourth Edition helps readers develop a thorough understanding of transmission line behavior, as well as their advantages and limitations. Developments in research, programs, and concepts since the first edition presented a demand for a version that reflected these advances. Extensively revised, the fourth edition of this bestselling text does just that, offering additional formulas and expanded discussions and references, in addition to a chapter on coupled transmission lines. What Makes This Text So Popular? The first part of the book explores distributed-circuit theory and presents practical applications. Using observable behavior, such as travel time, attenuation, distortion, and reflection from terminations, it analyzes signals and energy traveling on transmission lines at finite velocities. The remainder of the book reviews the principles of electromagnetic field theory, then applies Maxwell's equations for time-varying electromagnetic fields to coaxial and parallel conductor lines, as well as rectangular, circular, and elliptical cylindrical hollow metallic waveguides, and fiber-optic cables. This progressive organization and expanded coverage make this an invaluable reference. With its analysis of coupled lines, it is perfect as a text for undergraduate courses, while graduate students will appreciate it as an excellent source of extensive reference material. This Edition Includes: An overview of fiber optic cables emphasizing the principle types, their propagating modes, and dispersion Discussion of the role of total internal reflection at the core/cladding interface, and the specific application of boundary conditions to a circularly symmetrical propagating mode A chapter on coupled transmission lines, including coupled-line network analysis and basic crosstalk study More information on pulse propagation on lines with skin-effect losses A freeware program available online Solutions manual available with qualifying course adoption

Book excerpt: POSITIVE THINKING , Power of Positivity This Book Goes Straight To The Core Of Positive Thinking And Gives You All The Tools You Need To Change Your Life Forever. A strong, positive self-image is the best possible preparation for success. Joyce Brothers Positive thoughts or thinking positively refers to a state of mind where you are constantly trying to see the best in your present situation and surroundings and at the same time completely at ease and hopeful that future circumstances will play out the way you want and yet, you possess the belief that even if the circumstances are less than favorable, you will be able to work something out. Positive thinking is approaching every day, situation (pleasant or otherwise), task or relationship with the broadest and hopeful outlook that you can make a great impact on it. Positive thinking is refusing to get angry (as humans are wired to) when somebody annoys you by absentmindedly barging into you on the stairs and remains unapologetic simply because you don't know his situation and reasons for acting in a vexing manner. A positive thinker always keeps his optimism and hopes high and believes that he can work out a solution to any problems that might arise. It doesn't matter if others think his position or condition at present is undesirable. In his own mind, he believes his current challenges are there to sharpen his survival and fighting skills. Read this book now, and get on your way to being a happier you. This book was released on 2004 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The problem of classifying the finite-dimensional simple Lie algebras over fields of characteristic p > 0 is a long-standing one. Work on this question during the last 45 years has been directed by the Kostrikin-Shafarevich Conjecture of 1966, which states that over an algebraically closed field of characteristic p > 5 a finite-dimensional restricted simple Lie algebra is classical or of Cartan type. This conjecture was proved for p > 7 by Block and Wilson in 1988. The generalization of the Kostrikin-Shafarevich Conjecture for the general case of not necessarily restricted Lie algebras and p > 7 was announced in 1991 by Strade and Wilson and eventually proved by Strade in 1998. The final Block-Wilson-Strade-Premet Classification Theorem is a landmark result of modern mathematics and can be formulated as follows: Every finite-dimensional simple Lie algebra over an algebraically closed field of characteristic p > 3 is of classical, Cartan, or Melikian type. In the three-volume book, the author is assembling the proof of the Classification Theorem with explanations and references. The goal is a state-of-the-art account on the structure and classification theory of Lie algebras over fields of positive characteristic leading to the forefront of current research in this field. This is the second part of the three-volume book about the classification of the simple Lie algebras over algebraically closed fields of characteristics > 3. The first volume contains the methods, examples, and a first classification result. This second volume presents insight in the structure of tori of Hamiltonian and Melikian algebras. Based on sandwich element methods due to Aleksei. I. Kostrikin and Alexander A. Premet and the investigation of absolute toral rank 2 simple Lie algebras over algebraically closed fields of characteristics > 3 is given.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Through a careful treatment of number theory and geometry, Number, Shape, & Symmetry: An Introduction to Number Theory, Geometry, and Group Theory helps readers understand serious mathematical ideas and proofs. Classroom-tested, the book draws on the authors’ successful work with undergraduate students at the University of Chicago, seventh to tenth grade mathematically talented students in the University of Chicago’s Young Scholars Program, and elementary public school teachers in the Seminars for Endorsement in Science and Mathematics Education (SESAME). The first half of the book focuses on number theory, beginning with the rules of arithmetic (axioms for the integers). The authors then present all the basic ideas and applications of divisibility, primes, and modular arithmetic. They also introduce the abstract notion of a group and include numerous examples. The final topics on number theory consist of rational numbers, real numbers, and ideas about infinity. Moving on to geometry, the text covers polygons and polyhedra, including the construction of regular polygons and regular polyhedra. It studies tessellation by looking at patterns in the plane, especially those made by regular polygons or sets of regular polygons. The text also determines the symmetry groups of these figures and patterns, demonstrating how groups arise in both geometry and number theory. The book is suitable for pre-service or in-service training for elementary school teachers, general education mathematics or math for liberal arts undergraduate-level courses, and enrichment activities for high school students or math clubs.
