Book Synopsis Surface and Near-surface Chemistry of Oxide Materials by : Janusz Nowotny
Download or read book Surface and Near-surface Chemistry of Oxide Materials written by Janusz Nowotny and published by Elsevier Publishing Company. This book was released on 1988 with total page 742 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of this book is to fill the gap in the scientific literature by providing a comprehensive overview on the surface and near-surface chemistry of oxide materials. Oxide materials are important in a wide range of technological applications, which has resulted in a large bibliography devoted to their properties. The range of practical applications of metal oxides has recently been significantly extended by the discovery of high T c oxide superconductors. Surface chemistry overlaps with several other disciplines and involves some specialized physical methods, therefore renown scientists active in various fields were invited to contribute to the book. The present volume involves surface characterization of metal oxides as well as surface and near-surface phenomena including gas-solid, solid-solid and liquid-solid interphases. Both basic problems and applied aspects are covered. The theoretical background of ideal and real surfaces as well as surface phenomena such as adsorption, segregation, interphase interactions, equilibration, etc., are dealt with. A comprehensive description is given of the most useful experimental techniques for studying surface and near-surface (grain boundary) chemistry of ceramic materials, oxide catalysts, semiconductors and other oxide materials of practical importance. The range of practical applications of metal oxides has recently been significantly extended by the discovery of high T c oxide superconductors. A special chapter is devoted to High T c oxide superconductors, which provides an up-to-date and thorough review of this currently ''hot topic'' which will be of great interest to a wide section of the scientific community.

Download or read book Bibliography written by Pierre Villars and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2012-12-21 with total page 1827 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: By browsing about 10 000 000 scientific articles of over 200 major journals mainly in a 'cover to cover approach' some 200 000 publications were selected. The extracted data is part of the following fundamental material research fields: crystal structures (S), phase diagrams (also called constitution) (C) and the comprehensive field of intrinsic physical properties (P). This work has been done systematically starting with the literature going back to 1900. The above mentioned research field codes (S, C, P) as well as the chemical systems investigated in each publication were included in the present work. The aim of the Inorganic Substances Bibliography is to provide researchers with a comprehensive compilation of all up to now published scientific publications on inorganic systems in only three handy volumes.

Book Synopsis Atmospheric Corrosion by : Christofer Leygraf
Download or read book Atmospheric Corrosion written by Christofer Leygraf and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2016-06-07 with total page 401 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ATMOSPHERIC CORROSION Presents a comprehensive look at atmospheric corrosion, combining expertise in corrosion science and atmospheric chemistry Atmospheric corrosion has been a subject of engineering study, largely empirical, for nearly a century. Scientists came to the field rather later on and had considerable difficulty bringing their arsenal of tools to bear on the problem. Atmospheric corrosion was traditionally studied by specialists in corrosion having little knowledge of atmospheric chemistry, history, or prospects. Atmospheric Corrosion provides a combined approach bringing together experimental corrosion and atmospheric chemistry. The second edition expands on this approach by including environmental aspects of corrosion, atmospheric corrosion modeling, and international corrosion exposure programs. The combination of specialties provides a more comprehensive coverage of the topic. These scientific insights into the corrosion process and its amelioration are the focus of this book. Key topics include the following: Basic principles of atmospheric corrosion chemistry Corrosion mechanisms in controlled and uncontrolled environments Degradation of materials in architectural, transport, and structural applications; electronic devices; and cultural artifacts Protection of existing materials and choosing new ones that resist corrosion Prediction of how and where atmospheric corrosion may evolve in the future Complete with appendices discussing experimental techniques, computer models, and the degradation of specific metals, Atmospheric Corrosion, Second Edition continues to be an invaluable resource for corrosion scientists, corrosion engineers, conservators, environmental scientists, and anyone interested in the theory and application of this evolving field. The book concerns primarily the atmospheric corrosion of metals and is written at a level suitable for advanced undergraduates or beginning graduate students in any of the physical or engineering sciences.

Book Synopsis How Glass Changed the World by : Seth C. Rasmussen
Download or read book How Glass Changed the World written by Seth C. Rasmussen and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-02-23 with total page 89 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Glass production is thought to date to ~2500 BC and had found numerous uses by the height of the Roman Empire. Yet the modern view of glass-based chemical apparatus (beakers, flasks, stills, etc.) was quite limited due to a lack of glass durability under rapid temperature changes and chemical attack. This “brief” gives an overview of the history and chemistry of glass technology from its origins in antiquity to its dramatic expansion in the 13th century, concluding with its impact on society in general, particularly its effect on chemical practices.
