Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many people are unaware of how influential Mormons have been on American popular culture. This book parts the curtain and looks behind the scenes at the little-known but important influence Mormons have had on popular culture in the United States and beyond. Mormons and Popular Culture: The Global Influence of an American Phenomenon provides an unprecedented, comprehensive treatment of Mormons and popular culture. Authored by a Mormon studies librarian and author of numerous writings regarding Mormon folklore, culture, and history, this book provides students, scholars, and interested readers with an introduction and wide-ranging overview of the topic that can serve as a key reference book on the topic. The work contains fascinating coverage on the most influential Mormon actors, musicians, fashion designers, writers, artists, media personalities, and athletes. Some topics—such as the Mormon influence at Disney, and how Mormon inventors have assisted in transforming American popular culture through the inventions of television, stereophonic sound, video games, and computer-generated animation—represent largely unknown information. The broad overview of Mormons and American popular culture offered can be used as a launching pad for further investigation; researchers will find the references within the book's well-documented chapters helpful.

Book Synopsis Definition in Theory and Practice by : Roy Harris
Download or read book Definition in Theory and Practice written by Roy Harris and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2007-05-24 with total page 249 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The problem of definition has a long history and has engaged the minds of some of the most eminent thinkers in the Western tradition, from Plato and Aristotle onwards. But it is also an everyday problem constantly confronting all who have to draft or interpret the countless texts on which modern society depends. Definition in Theory and Practice focuses on two areas where difficulties arise in a particularly acute form: lexicography and the law. Examining a wide range of approaches and definitional techniques, backed up by detailed analyses of dictionary entries and court cases, the authors provide a comprehensive survey of their subject. They argue that what underlies the problem of definition are conflicting assumptions about the way language functions. This in-depth study of definition will be of interest to academics researching lexicography, semantics and the intersection of linguistics and jurisprudence.

Rainy Dale is The Clincher, a twenty-something high school-dropout turned farrier (horseshoer) who is haunted by a secret she carries. As the new kid in town, Rainy has an uphill battle to prove herself in order to make a living by her trade, especially to her male clients who look down their noses at a female farrier. If she plans on setting down roots in her new town, Rainy will have to find the killer and clear her name. But it a country as wild as the mustangs that used to run free, finding the truth just might get her killed.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: God seeks our attention and relationship in so many ways. Figuring out how to notice, listen, and respond to God as we move through the daily exercises of our life is the stuff of our spiritual journey. For centuries we have practiced and shared some of our favorite and most fulfilling methods for relating with God and allowing that partnership to inform and transform our lives. Some methods work better than others. Probably the best for each of us are ones we tailor to meet our individual needs. In Wednesday Wonderings Gary Nelson invites the reader into his own spiritual journey through the lens of the camera he carries with him. He has experimented with many methods and discovered that the camera lens often provides him one of the best means to notice, listen, and respond to God. The camera offers the opportunity to wonder about life lived in relationship with God and others. Through the process this pastor and pastoral counselor's devotions, called Wednesday Wonderings, offer helpful insights for life and an invitation for all of us to find our own means to wonder.

Book Synopsis Kam: Book One by : Glen 'Rocky' Meyers
Download or read book Kam: Book One written by Glen 'Rocky' Meyers and published by Glen Meyers. This book was released on 2023-06-19 with total page 425 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Kamryn had a life plan and was successful in almost everything she endeavored to accomplish. Then one day... ' Kamryn awoke in a Horror Chamber!' My name is Kamryn. At least, this is what I believe to be true. We, humans, are the sum of our DNA. It’s all about genetics, family trees, and inherited traits; some of us can gaze into a mirror and see our parents or another family member. Our features, eyes, hair, bone structures, and intelligence are from our direct descendants, uhm, typically. Essentially we are what we were! People are born with genetic disorders, ‘Down syndrome, Diabetes, Spina bifida, Cystic fibrosis, Cancer, Muscular dystrophy, Sickle cell disease, and the list goes on ☹. These disorders most often can be found in our bloodlines and past ancestors. It's not the luck of the draw, in my book. No, it’s a risky gamble when an Evil Egg is fertilized with Sinister Sperm. Does an Angel pop out from the womb? I think not; I am living proof that my relatives were irresponsible. My descendants were the ‘Who’s Who of Evil,’ Serial Killers, Psychopaths, Insanity laden right from the hatchery. Mental disorders that have yet to be labeled. One day I’ll awake from a nap, peer into the mirror, and not be shocked to envision a crowd of deviates ghoulishly staring back at ME, Grinning and Smirking; well, Ugh, Hello There! ☹. Laying on my back, chained and shackled to a gurney, surrounded by concrete walls closing in on me, musing over how my life had imploded in just one singular day. Nah, it wasn’t a tragic automobile accident or catastrophe such as an earthquake, devastating fire, or hurricane, nope. I wasn’t assaulted, nor did I lose a loved one or was robbed, didn’t receive an unsettling diagnosis, or lost a fortune in the stock market or elsewhere.
