Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A clear and frank exploration of the future of Christianity and whether it needs to be saved. We live in confusing times. Our society has shifted on its moral axis, and many are asking whether Christianity needs to be reinvented--or even reimagined--in order to save it. With Newsweek declaring "The Decline and Fall of Christian America" on its cover and The Daily Beast questioning "Does Christianity Have a Future?" bloggers and Christian commentators are discussing whether we need a "new of kind of Christianity." In Saving Christianity? Dr. Michael Youssef explores this train of thought and its pitfalls. He describes how similar discussions in Christianity's recent past explored the very same question. Saving Christianity? will help you discern what is going on within the church while it reviews the essentials of the Christian faith as described in the Bible. We dare not abandon this "mere faith," as Dr. Youssef describes it, because it is the light for all humanity--and especially for those of us living in today's chaotic times. After reading Saving Christianity? you'll have a renewed confidence in the future of the church and the central place it will occupy for generations to come.

Book excerpt: Normal turned to PTSD and a substance abuse nightmare for Jenny the instant a taxi struck her, catapulting her thirty feet across a busy New York City street. Jenny is one of the lucky ones to have survived the drug rehabilitation system, which routinely fails those at risk. Her story is multiplied across the US in the wrecked lives and torn-apart families of hundreds of thousands of Jennies. Saving Jenny is the story of a mother and daughter’s long painful journey from tragedy, through opioid addiction, toward healing. Its cautionary tale sheds light on drug dependency, sexual violation and exploitation, misdiagnosed psychological and physical injuries. It exposes a healthcare industry focused more on profits than care, which routinely fails those in its keeping. We see firsthand the abuse, negligence, malpractice, illegal and illicit activities going on in rehab facilities. We hear about the complicity of Big Pharma, insurance companies, and healthcare providers in these schemas. Beyond an exposé, this book offers practical and radical solutions to the countless individuals and families affected by opioid addiction and trauma. People need physical, psychological, social, and spiritual support to experience true healing.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is written and published to help churches, civic organizations, schools, community groups, youth programs and the like to open and operate their own youth services program. The size of the program depends upon the number of participants for which the programs exist. Examples are based on The Velocity Foundation’s program and should in no way mean that each program should follow the example straight forward. Research for this book is based on 2010 census data from the State of Louisiana. To develop a youth program, the program must deal with self esteem, drug prevention, pregnancy prevention, violence prevention, ATOD issues and bullying issues. These issues will help save lives and create a value system that is consistent with the norms of society. The program activities should be held in a safe environment such as a retreat setting, away from the normal everyday meeting places. It should offer field trips, history lessons, trusting and bonding exercises with youth, and group therapy. The program should also teach life skills, personal hygiene skills, teach respect for others and responsibility. The program should develop a set of standards that everyone in the group agrees on. They should have an opportunity to give examples of what “PUT DOWNS” are as well as why such a standard is used. Once they have agreed, they should signify by standing.

Book excerpt: How American Protestant missionaries created a new worldwide religious network Among a wide spectrum of American Protestants, the horrors of World War II triggered grave concern for Europe’s religious future. They promptly mobilised resources to revive Europe’s Christian foundation. Saving the Overlooked Continent reconstructs this surprising redirection of Western missions. For the first time, Europe became the recipient of America’s missionary enterprise. The American missionary impulse matched the military, economic, and political programs of the U.S., all of which positioned the United States to become Europe’s dominant partner and point of cultural reference. One result was the importation of the internal conflicts that vexed American Protestants – theological tensions between modernists and traditionalists, and organisational competition between established churches and independent parachurch associations. Europe was offered a new slate of options that sparked civic and ecclesiastical responses. But behind these contending religious networks lay a considerable overlap of goals and means based on a shared missionary trajectory. By the mid-1960s, most Protestant American agencies admitted that the expectation of a religious revival had been too optimistic despite their initiatives having led to an integration of Europe in the global evangelical network. The agencies reconsidered their assumptions and redefined their strategies. The initial opposition between inclusive and exclusive approaches abated, and the path opened to a sustained cooperation among once-fierce opponents.

Book excerpt: The failure of current policy to address important quality of life issues for urban youth remains a substantial barrier to civic participation, educational equity, and healthy adulthood. This volume brings together the work of leading urban youth scholars to highlight the detrimental impact of zero tolerance policies on young people’s educational experience and well being. Inspired by the conviction that urban youth have the right to more equitable educational and social resources and political representation, Beyond Resistance! offers new insights into how to increase the effectiveness of youth development and education programs, and how to create responsive youth policies at the local, state, and federal level.

Book excerpt: Highly absorbing, fascinating, and even challenging, with prayer this book will change your life. Through a careful study of Scripture and the Spirit of Prophecy, As He Is examines subjects such as the flood, Sodom and Gomorrah, the plagues of Egypt, Israel's use of the sword, the final fires of destruction, and much more, thus reconciling the issue of the supposed contradictions found in the character of God as Satan proposes. The rebellion of sin will not be ended until the accusations regarding God's character and government are brought to a close through God's people here in earth's theater. Many people simultaneously hold two separate pictures of God. They have a "thunder and lightning" view of the Old Testament God of justice, whereas in the New Testament, God is seen as the bearer of mercy, personified in the gentle Lamb, Jesus. But Jesus came to show us the Father; therefore, we are called to cease all double-mindedness about who God is-He must be the same yesterday, today, and forever. God is one in character, and He looks just like Jesus! Justice is not sacrificed in Christ, but it is not served according to the thoughts and ways of humanity. At last it will be seen by all that His justice is mercy. "Nothing in the world is more important or more necessary than to get the character of God right. We can fill libraries up with religious books, all being most interesting, but if they are not telling the truth about God, it is all vain and a waste of time and space. As He Is should be read carefully by everybody." Herbert Edgar Douglass, ThD, Author of God at Risk "God has not arbitrarily set a time for His second coming, but rather He is waiting for the final demonstration of the complete victory over sin in His people, through His Spirit. The Body of Christ must be pure and clean, as the Head of the Body is pure and clean. If we are to share His throne then we must be like Him. This can only happen when we have a clear understanding of His character. This is what makes the subject of this book vitally important to comprehend. As He Is strives to answer through the inspired Word, in a logical and clear manner, many of the questions that man has asked over the years about the acts and character of God." Edward J. Rice, Head Elder, Lacombe Community Seventh-day Adventist Church "As He Is presents God as One quite different from traditional notions while staying close to the inspired text. It does a superb job of bringing passages together that unveil a better picture of God than what may have been noticed before. Much of traditional picturing of God the Father is out of harmony with the clearly recorded character of Jesus in the Gospel account. It is fundamental to Christian faith that the Godhead be understood as being love, and love alone!... I would invite all believers in God to please consider the clues in the written word that lift Him up above some ancient ideas that do not harmonize with the light we have in Jesus Christ." D. Douglas Devnich, Pastor, Healthcare Chaplain, Teacher, Administrator of the Seventh-day Adventist Church

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are times when I feel like the title ‘father’ is the worst name God could have given Himself. What a stupid idea, when ‘father’ means rejection in my world.” —From a troubled teen’s letter to Doug Stringer Doug Stringer’s ministry daily saw young people struggling with drugs, alcohol, abortion, prostitution, apathy, and other issues. As God gave insight the root of the problem became clear: America is devoid of fathers, both natural and spiritual; it is an orphaned nation with broken and dysfunctional families; it is a society of individuals in search of identity. Doug gives the reader a clear path to the affirmation, acceptance, and approval of a father by drawing from his own struggle with fatherlessness to explain: The answer to the problem of fatherlessness in our nation The importance of spiritual fathers in the church How to be a spiritual father and find a spiritual father God’s heart for reconciliation between generations How to overcome broken trust and learn to trust again. The church is only now awaking to the heart cry of a generation that has been abandoned and left to its own devices. Doug Stringer believes that God is ready to release a multi-generational anointing, calling forth churches and nations to come back to their Abba Father.
