This book walks you through the simple process of doing just that. Its informed pages give you detailed instructions to help you lead your family (ages seven and up) through each of the 33 mini-retreat days recommended by Saint Louis de Montfort, the beloved eighteenth-century priest and confessor who tirelessly preached that Jesus is not known well enough because Mary is not known well enough. Download or read book A Woman Clothed with the Sun written by John J. Delaney and published by Image. This book was released on 1990-10-01 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Through the centuries, Our Blessed Lady has appeared frequently on earth with messages of warning, hope, and consolation for humanity--but never more frequently than in the last two centuries. Heralded as the Marian Age, the past two hundred years have been blessed with numerous appearances of Our Lady, each one offering messages of inspiration and hope and urging the world to return to the love of God through prayer, penance, and reparation for sins. A Woman Clothed with the Sun considers the seven most significant apparitions of Our Lady in the past two centuries: that of the Miraculous Medal at Paris, those at La Salette, Lourdes, Knock, Fatima, Beauraing, Banneux--and also the sixteenth-century appearance of Mary at Guadalupe with its profound message for Americans. The historical background of each apparition is given, the vision itself described, and Mary's messages are quoted by writers distinguished for their special knowledge of the apparitions and their literary excellence. In his introductory chapter, editory John J. Delaney traces the relationships between the apparitions and provides a penetrating analysis of their significance. Recipient of the Marian Library Medal, A Woman Clothed with the Sun has been critically acclaimed as the one book on Our Lady that should be read by everyone.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There was a long span of time, around 160,000 years from the creation of Adam and Eve to the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ who redeemed us from sins and so many things had happened in between those years. First of all, God had taken out of His breath. His only Son before He created everything, He was His Helper. He had chosen the earth from among the planets in the galaxy He created possibly because of its location from the sun He had revolving around it with other planets. At first, He created big animals like the dinosaurs to inhabit the earth. Then later on He thought of making a man from the soil in His own image and gave it a breath of life Adam. He had taken one of his ribs, after putting him in a deep sleep, and fashioned it into a woman, to give him a partner, Eve. They are put in the Garden of Eden to live where everything was available for survival. Later on, they were driven out of Eden due to their disobedience not to eat the fruit of a tree located in the middle of Eden. Eve took it due to the temptation by the serpent telling her she could be like God. She ate and gave some to Adam.

I see the Blessed Virgin as plainly as I see you. And she wants the Medal made right away, so people can wear it and start receiving graces. Father Aladel just could not believe that Our Lady was appearing to Sister Catherine Laboureand asking for a medal to be made too! Why, Sister Catherine was only a novice! Forget the whole thing, he told her. Just say your prayers and try to be like the other Sisters. Catherine obediently tried to forgetbut then the Blessed Mother came again! And again she asked for the Medal to be made. Would Our Ladys request ever be granted? Would Fr. Aladel ever believe she had really come? And what were the great graces she had promised to those who wore the Medal with confidence? This book shows what happened, also telling about Catherines second mother, and about obstinate old Johnwho refused to have anything to do with the Medaland about how Sister Catherine kept her big secret. In short, here is the wonderful story of what happened when the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to young St. Catherine Laboure.

Book Synopsis The Vincentians: A General History of the Congregation of the Mission by : John E. Rybolt
Download or read book The Vincentians: A General History of the Congregation of the Mission written by John E. Rybolt and published by New City Press. This book was released on with total page 603 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: THE SUBTITLE OF THIS SIXTH AND FINAL VOLUME of The Vincentians, “Internationalization and Aggiornamento (1919–1980),” describes the growth and change of the Congregation of the Mission in the twentieth century. Formerly European in focus, the provinces of the Congregation gained their own voice. Membership in mission lands, such as China, Brazil, and Ethiopia, surged, as local vocations joined their European confreres. The same is true of maturing provinces elsewhere. St. Vincent de Paul’s congregation became internationalized in both outreach and membership. The Vincentians in these recent decades also tasted the bitterness of persecution. The Congregation was suppressed at various times in Europe, Latin America, Asia, and Africa. Its members often reacted by moving elsewhere, thus furthering the internationalization of the Vincentian charism. Under the Nazis and Communist regimes, many suffered imprisonment, torture, and death. The provinces of Central Europe (Slovakia, Hungary, and Poland), to say nothing of China, were particularly hard-hit. Updating (aggiornamento) was the watchword toward the close of this period. As society changed, so did the Church, and with it the Vincentians. The process was difficult and painful, but it moved the Congregation in directions originally laid down by the Founder. Increasingly, the members emphasized mutual cooperation with many Vincentian-inspired lay organizations, the Vincentian Family. The inspiration shared among them all has been a further manifestation of the compelling insights of St. Vincent de Paul.

Download or read book How to Be Holy written by Peter Kreeft and published by Ignatius Press. This book was released on 2016 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Life, in the end, has only one tragedy: not to have been a saint." – Léon Bloy The ever-popular and prolific Peter Kreeft says that the most important question he has written about is how one becomes holy; or to put it another way, how one becomes a saint. This question is central to all the great religions, Kreeft demonstrates, for striving toward holiness, moving toward perfect love, is the whole purpose of life. Kreeft admits that he is only a beginner on the climb to holiness, and it is to novices like him that he has written this engaging and encouraging book. Using the insights and experiences of saints and great spiritual writers throughout history, Kreeft shows what holiness is and how it can be achieved. He especially draws upon the spiritual classic Abandonment to Divine Providence by Jean-Pierre de Caussade, S.J. The core of Caussade's timeless gem is that God reveals himself to all of us through the daily events of our lives. The surest way toward spiritual growth, therefore, is by perceiving and accepting the merciful will of God in every situation. Kreeft stresses the simplicity of his approach to holiness, which focuses mainly on the virtue of love. Sanctity is love, he asserts, and only that can give us what we all long for—deep and lasting joy.
