Book excerpt: Abstract: The stigmatization of the Osu people in Igbo society has manifested itself in many Pentecostal churches in Owerri, giving rise to segregation and hatred. Greeted with hostility within the Church, the Osu Christians have adopted measures to curtail the mistreatment directed against them. This ethnographic study reveals a Church composed of two groups, the Osu and Diala Christians, and describes the constant struggle between them to gain control of their spiritual lives. In addition to contributing to a better understanding of human dignity and equal opportunity for everyone in society, this study will make those engaged in cross-cultural conflict management aware of conflicts and resolution principles. Finally, it will serve as a resource for training Christians in societal conflicts and management procedures for those engaged in Christian education.
