Book excerpt: Many books include an inherent bias: The authors specialize in a certain beloved technique and attempt to apply this technique to multiple clinical situations while glorifying the successes and dismissing the failures. Or it is written by researchers so wrapped up in science and academia that they forget what it really means to run a dental practice and deal with patients day-to-day. This book is different. The authors have many decades of both academic and clinical experience and have set out to produce a clear, impartial, and rational text to address new concepts and techniques that affect daily clinical practice. Treatments (including their limitations) are described, including many controversial techniques and clinical issues not previously described in the literature. The chapter layout is presented logically and in sequence to address the different specialties in an organized and contextualized way. A comprehensive background is provided to allow readers to determine for themselves – rather than be told – how to best develop a sound clinical work.

Book excerpt: Written by some of the most accomplished and respected clinician-researchers of our day, this engaging monograph takes stock of the impact of osseointegration on the clinical practice of dentistry 25 years after the concept was introduced in North America. It presents an honest and compelling assessment of the documented effectiveness of implants as well as the known shortcomings of this treatment modality. Most important, it synthesizes this information within the context of clinical decision-making about the management of patients' prosthodontic and surgical needs. The authors examine every facet of implant dentistry to describe what we know and, equally important, what we don't know in terms of patient care and treatment outcomes. This book is an essential clinical resource for general dentists and students who wish to understand the historic evolution and present-day practice of implant dentistry.

This book was released on 2017 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The comparison of dental implant surfaces and their effect on osseointegration in the aesthetic zone ; Clinical and Radiographic case reportBackground: Recent studies have encouraged a progressive shortening of the healing period for single-tooth implants and immediate loading has been proposed for the aesthetic zone in the maxilla. The biological fixation between the dental implant surfaces and jaw bones should be considered a prerequisite for the long-term success of implant-supported prostheses.Aim/Hypothesis : The aim of this case is to compare the effectiveness of immediate single implants with different surface in the aesthetic zone.Materials and Methods : Patients requiring a single tooth implant-supported restoration in the maxillary esthetic zone received the implant with rough surface and combine surface (rough surface + machined surface) placed in healed sites. The combine implant surfaces is also called hybrid implant. Implants that achieved an insertion torque of at least 35 Ncm were immediately non-occlusally loaded. The screw-retained provisional crown was delivered within 7 hours following the surgery and non functionally loaded. The definitive prosthesis was delivered within 2 months after implant insertion. Two months later the osteointegration progress was evaluated in all installed implants using: Dental X-rays and Osstellu2122 system. Results : After two months period of healing, high level of integration was observed. The stability of these implants was measured using Osstellu2122 system. These implants showed higher values ; ISQ 75 (hybrid) and 76 (rough surface), respectively. It also observed a good soft tissue adaptation clinically. No complications were observed. Radiographic bone changes were similar in both dental implants. Conclusions and Clinical implications :Both implants is a valuable treatment option for immediate implant placement and loading of single crowns in the maxillary esthetic zone.
