Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Air Instrument Surgery, Volume 2: Orthopedics has been compiled to aid in the se lection and use of air instruments in orthopedic surgical techniques. In each instance it attempts to demonstrate the classic approach, leaving it to the individual surgeon to develop further his expertise and ingenuity with air-driven instruments. Possible applications and adaptations are as unlimited as the surgeon's skill and imagination. Detailed illustrations and text treat the use of each air instrument in various proce dures, but the surgical application is given only for that portion of each procedure in which manual operation can be advantageously replaced by the use of air instru ments. This book, therefore, does not depict complete surgical procedures, nor does it include all the procedures in orthopedic surgery for which air instruments are now employed. Use of air-driven instruments does not imply any change in basic surgical techniques. It does enhance the surgeon's dexterity, increase his speed and, in some situations, makes a surgical approach possible for the first time. A technical guide has been needed since air instruments were introduced. Air In strument Surgery, Volume 2: Orthopedics is the second publication to fill that need. Its function is to clarify problems and difficulties and to suggest solutions by means of air instrument surgery. It is also intended to remove any apprehension about the use of air instruments. To ensure this, the technical procedures are supplemented with detailed instructions for assembling, using and maintaining the instruments.

Book excerpt: Operative Dictations in Orthopedic Surgery is a valuable resource for teaching orthopedic surgical trainees and practicing orthopedic surgeons how to document their operative procedures. The book includes the majority of the commonly performed orthopedic procedures. For each procedure, a list of common indications is given, covering 95% of the situations in which particular procedures will be used, as well as a list of essential steps. This is then followed by a list intended to prompt the surgeon for particular details to note and dictate within the template, a list of possible complications that are typically associated with a particular surgical procedure, and templates of operative dictation that allow the surgeon to individualize their dictations. Ample space is also provided to allow each surgeon to add notes. Concise and easy to use, Operative Dictations in Orthopedic Surgery is a unique tool for orthopedics surgical residents and residents in practice that better prepares them to participate actively and learn as much as possible in the operating room.

In most medical schools, most emphasis is placed on orthopaedic trauma surgery, with elective techniques often delayed until much later in a surgeon’s training.

This book was released on 2009-10-30 with total page 658 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Minimally invasive surgery has evolved as an alternative to the traditional approaches in orthopedic surgery and has gathered a great deal of attention. Many surgeons are now p- forming all types of procedures through smaller surgical felds. Along with changes in the surgical technique, there have been rapid advances in computer navigation and robotics as tools to enhance the surgeon’s vision in the limited operative felds. With these new techniques and technologies, we must ensure that these procedures are performed safely and effectively with predictable clinical outcomes. This book has been expanded from our previous publi- tions to include spine and foot and ankle surgery, along with updated sections on knee arth- plasty, hip arthroplasty, and upper extremity surgery. The clinical information and surgical techniques, along with tips and pearls, provided by experts in the feld allows the reader to grasp a comprehensive understanding of the nuances of MIS. It is our intention that this text will be a valuable reference for all orthopedic surgeons. New York, NY Giles R. Scuderi, MD Piscataway, NJ Alfred J.
