The Wolf gains a throne when he rescues Princess Desdira, the rightful ruler of Neria, from armed nobles who have turned against her. But becoming a king means that Oron must confront the brutal Amrik. The general has earned a kingdom of his own and now wishes to conquer Neria with the aid of Kossuth, who is poisoning the land with plague and darkness. To face these enemies, Oron will accept his destiny and prepare for a confrontation with elemental evil that could throw the world into anarchy. Book excerpt: In the early 1980s, thousands of Ethiopian Jews fled the civil unrest, famine and religious persecution of their native land in the hopes of being reunited in Yerusalem, their spiritual homeland, with its promises of a better life. Wuditu and her family risk their lives to make this journey, which leads them to a refugee camp in Sudan, where they are separated. Terrified, 15-year-old Wuditu must return to Ethiopia alone. “Don’t give up, Wuditu! Be strong!” The words of her little sister come to Wuditu in a dream and give her the courage to keep going. Wuditu must find someone to give her food and shelter or she will surely die. Finally Wuditu is offered a solution: working as a servant. However, she quickly realizes that she has become a slave. With nowhere else to go, she stays — until the villagers discover that she is a falasha, a hated Jew. Only her dream of one day being reunited with her family gives her strength — until the arrival of a stranger heralds hope and a new life in Israel. Based on real events, Wuditu’s story mirrors the experiences of thousands of Ethiopian Jews.

Book excerpt: Oron didn’t want to rule Sehaann. But now he’s leading his nation to war for its very existence. He fights for his people’s safety, for a peaceful future, for freedom from the tyranny trying to eliminate him. Heritage has plagued his life and now that legacy hangs on the edge of oblivion. No matter how he got here, he can’t let it fall. Because failure means the end of everything he loves. Caught between obligation and duty, treachery and redemption, Sanjay is powerless to stop the machinations dragging him into war on the wrong side of the battlefield. He can’t fathom opposing his knightly brethren, but when he’s forced to face Oron from the enemy lines, all of his worst nightmares suddenly become reality. Destroy Oron and the knights of Sehaann, or sacrifice all he holds dear. Either choice means Sanjay loses. The persistent rage simmering in Kyren’s soul is now a demon threatening to consume him. Everywhere he turns, the consequences of his failure torment and remind him of how unworthy he is of his elite status. He’s a liability to those he’s sworn to protect and jeopardizes Oron’s battle plans at the worst possible moment. If he can’t control his seething vengeance, he’ll lose much more than his position. He’ll take the world down with him. All William wants is to protect his family. The ones he loves are worth everything to him so he extends his power beyond known limits to help Oron and his army succeed. What he achieves is beyond anyone’s expectation, but it’s more than even an immortal winged warrior can withstand. With godlike energy at his fingertips, he can alter reality to his whim. If he doesn’t obliterate it first. Overwhelmed and under siege, Taj can barely provide for his own community when refugees start arriving from around the country. As casualties mount, his leadership and therapeutic skills are stretched to the brink. But nothing prepares him for the horror of battle, where seconds mean the difference between life and death. Not even a gifted healer can save everyone. And sometimes, seconds are a luxury that no one can afford. In the ultimate battle for Sehaann’s survival, honor will be tested, loyalty will be shattered, sacrifices will be made, and no one will emerge unscathed. Everyone’s spent a lifetime giving all they have to fight for what they believe in. Now is when they find out if it’s enough. This work is intended for a mature audience and contains mature content. Book excerpt: Despite Mongolia's centrality to East Asian history and culture, Mongols themselves have often been seen as passive subjects on the edge of the Qing formation or as obedient followers of so-called "Tibetan Buddhism," peripheral to major literary, religious, and political developments. But in fact Mongolian Buddhists produced multi-lingual and genre-bending scholastic and ritual works that profoundly shaped historical consciousness, community identification, religious knowledge, and practices in Mongolian lands and beyond. In Sources of Mongolian Buddhism, a team of leading Mongolian scholars and authors have compiled a collection of original Mongolian Buddhist works--including ritual texts, poetic prayers and eulogies, legends, inscriptions, and poems--for the first time in any European language.

Book Synopsis Britain’s Killing Fields by : John Igbino
Download or read book Britain’s Killing Fields written by John Igbino and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2023-01-19 with total page 588 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Britain kept meticulous records of its casualties in Southern Nigeria, but it did not collect and keep any coherent records of the casualties it inflicted on the so-called natives. Britain's failure to collect and keep "natives"' casualty statistics was not an unconscious omission. Instead it was a deliberate policy because it placed considerably less value on the lives of "natives" compared to European lives. It held that a drop of European blood was worth four times more than “natives’” blood. The death of a District Officer on active duty was worth the lives of up to two hundred “natives” and it took twenty “natives” to service a Political Officer on the field. Additionally, it accepted the arguments of its top commander, Colonel Arthur Montanaro, that "natives" were engaged in illegal resistance to His Majesty’s Government, therefore while he had a duty to crush their resistance to the British Government he was not duty bound to account for their deaths. Accordingly, the book explores these untold aspects of British History, particularly the computation of the number of Indigenous people of the landmass which became Southern Nigeria who were killed between 1900 and 1930 during one of the bloodiest periods in the history of Southern Nigeria as British troops of the West African Frontier Force (WAFF) and the West African Service Brigade (WASB) rampaged through Southern Nigeria. In its explorations the book posed and addressed the following questions: how many Indigenous people of Southern Nigeria were killed by the British Army between 1900 and 1930? What were the names of the people who were killed? Were there women and children among the dead? How old were they when they died? Where were they buried? Who buried them there? What were the prevailing political circumstances when they were killed? Under what military circumstances were they killed? Was there a state of war between the Indigenous people of Southern Nigeria and Britain when they were killed? The book’s sources were unpublished original archival documents at the National Archives. These document sources included Ordinances, Proclamations, Admiralty’s and Crown Agents’ papers, High Commissioners’, Governor-General’s and Lieutenant-Governor’s Correspondences and Despatches. The Correspondences and Despatches included field reports compiled by British Army Officers, Field Commanders, British Police Commissioners, Political Officers, District Officers (DO), District Commissioners, Divisional Officers, Divisional Commissioners and Provincial Commissioners. These sources are kept in the following Colonial Office Documents series: Southern Nigeria (CO520/series) and Nigeria (CO583/series).
