In fact, this factor may contribute to organizational performance. When a company A merged or acquired by a company B, cultural clashes might occur. Therefore, this study examines the correlation between organizational culture differences and its dimension with job satisfaction. Much of the literature discuss the outcome of M&A using accounting-based measures and stock market-based measures, but few studies examine the outcome of M&A based on socio-cultural integration.The broad assumption explains that cultural differences may create negative socio-cultural outcomes, e.g. job satisfaction. Previous findings show that organizational culture differences have an impact on employees, such as an increase of anxiety and stress that may lead to decreased job satisfaction and commitment, and increased turnover and absenteeism. This thesis focuses on the impact of organizational culture differences on M&A performance and particularly emphasizes the impact on socio-cultural outcomes such as employees job satisfaction. Data on the context of M&A and organizational culture are analyzed from much literature sources, archival information, and survey questionnaires. In contrast, we found that cultural differences and its dimensions may not correlate with job satisfaction but it depends on the job position. We conclude that the relationship between cultural differences and job satisfaction is not as simple as expected. We cannot simply conclude that relationship between organizational culture and job satisfaction is negatively or positively correlated since it might depend on many factors such as preferred and agreed acculturation mode, the nature and the extent of cultural differences, integration approach, and many more.

Book excerpt: Abstract: The study was designed to examine the relationship between organizational culture and job satisfaction of full-time employees in park and recreation departments. Gender difference in job satisfaction was also investigated. Pearson product-moment correlation coefficients were computed between the four types of organizational cultures (clan, adhocracy, market, and hierarchy) and job satisfaction. For 77 park and recreation employees, whose questionnaires were usable, significant (p .05) relationships were found between job satisfaction and clan culture (r = .341), market culture (r = - 237), and hierarchy culture (r = - 302). The relationship between adhocracy culture and job satisfaction was not significantly (p .05) different from zero (r = .108). Based on the statistical analysis, no significant (p> .05) difference on job satisfaction was found between male and female full-time employees. Female and male full-time employees in park and recreation departments in Massachusetts and Connecticut reported similar scores on job satisfaction.

Without trust or the lack of it among organizational members and between management and employees, organizational communication, knowledge management, organizational performance, and involvement may tend to close down. Trust has been identified as a crucial ingredient for organizational effectiveness. A linkage between trust and job satisfaction in private organizations has been established by researchers; however, in the U.S. federal government, the linkage between organizational trust and job satisfaction has not yet been studied. This study, therefore, explores the relationship between organizational trust and job satisfaction in seven selected small, medium, and large U.S. federal agencies. This study indicated that there are no significant differences between males and females, however, significant differences in attitudes between supervisors and nonsupervisors were found regarding what good communications meant and how they interpret the question, "top management truly listens to employees' concerns." Nonsupervisors tend to disagree more frequently than supervisors. The study also found that there are significant association between gender, age group, job location, position, and occupation and agency. The differences in attitudes between supervisors and nonsupervisors about what would make communications seem good and what would contribute to the belief that top management listens to employees' concerns lead to the conclusion that there is a disconnection among organizational members and among management and employees. This disconnection may lead to mistrust, job dissatisfaction and the difficulty in attracting and retention of human talents.

Factorial structure models assume that job satisfaction is based on multiple underlying (latent) factors that are not directly measurable. An alternative concept assumes that satisfaction with different job facets adds up to overall job satisfaction. As job satisfaction is dependent on culture, this study examined how the importance of job facets varies across cultural areas and countries within a global organization. An attempt was made to estimate the influence of an overarching company corporate culture on job satisfaction in different national cultures. The Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire (MSQ) was used in eight countries in Europe, East Asia, Latin America, and North America. Five MSQ-items were conceptually attributed to the overarching corporate culture of Roche, a global pharmaceutical company. Exploratory factor analysis was used to examine latent factors. Also, stepwise regression analysis was performed to identify the predictors of job satisfaction based on statistical significance. The average levels of job satisfaction were high. Within an overall picture of high variability in factor solutions, there were ten MSQ-items loading relatively consistently on the first two latent factors across cultures. Amongst them, social services was the only job facet attributable to corporate culture. The other ten MSQ-items loaded variably on higher factors. Stepwise regression analysis partially confirmed the interpretation of factor solutions. Ability utilization and achievement were suggested to be universal predictors of job satisfaction.

Specifically, this dissertation: (1) built upon the insights and framework of prior research literature that suggest the relationship of macro (structural) and micro (psychological) empowerment and its effect on job satisfaction (2) expanded existing empowerment models by introducing organizational culture as an influential organizational phenomenon (3) assessed the level of degree how organizational subculture groups perceive organizational culture, macro (structural) and micro (psychological) empowerment; and job satisfaction contextual attributes. The dissertation utilized mixed method research combining both a quantitative and qualitative study with a triangulation of methods. The quantitative study employed a sample of 258 federal government employees and used hierarchical linear modeling techniques, multiple regression, hierarchical regression analysis, and independent T-test of sample means to test for main and mediator effects. The qualitative study employed a sample of 69 federal government employees and used open-ended content analysis to analyze data. Results from the quantitative study revealed that there are strong and positive relationships of organizational culture; macro empowerment, micro empowerment; and job satisfaction. Further, the quantitative study revealed that occupational subculture influences the level of perception of organizational culture; macro and micro empowerment; and job satisfaction. Results from the qualitative study provided rich and robust descriptive results complementing the quantitative study.
