Book excerpt: New Zealand organisations have undergone many changes over the past decade and are continuing to face many challenges: diversity is increasing; the management role is becoming more complex; workplaces are demanding; and there are unprecedented levels of competition. The people in organisations thus become increasingly important and play a vital role in linking all the elements of an organisation together. The third edition of ORGANISATIONAL BEHAVIOUR IN NEW ZEALAND provides management students with an understanding of the working environment. The book introduces the theory of organisational behaviour and shows how this is applied to the New Zealand environment: whether the organisation is a large corporation or a small to medium-sized enterprise; a New Zealand organisation or an overseas-owned enterprise; service oriented or manufacturing based. This book will also be useful as a reference for managers and employees wishing to continually improve their own performance. By knowing how to observe, understand, predict and influence behaviour, they will be better equipped to improve the organisation's performance. This edition includes the most recent research in the discipline as well as new references and examples. Current issues and emerging challenges in the field of organisational behaviour are discussed and put into context.

Book excerpt: The sixth Australasian edition of Organisational Behaviour: Core Concepts and Applications stands as an exemplary resource tailored for one-semester courses in Organisational Behaviour. With a deliberate focus on succinctness, relevance, and visual presentation, its fourteen chapters are meticulously crafted to captivate rather than inundate students. Throughout the text, a plethora of case studies and real-world instances delve into how organisations across the Australian, New Zealand, and Asian regions navigate pressing contemporary business concerns. These include the imperative of sustainable business practices, grappling with environmental impact and climate change, mitigating the gender pay gap, addressing employee stress, fostering resilience and work-life balance, adapting to the dynamics of millennials and an ageing workforce, enhancing employee retention strategies, and navigating the complexities of globalisation and outsourcing. Additionally, topics such as fostering diversity in the workplace, responding to the workforce transformations precipitated by the COVID-19 pandemic, managing remote teams effectively, honing crisis management skills, and harnessing the potential of emerging technologies—particularly the ascendancy of generative artificial intelligence (AI) tools—are comprehensively explored. This latest edition amplifies its focus on sustainability, entrepreneurial and adaptive leadership, and the pivotal role of technology in catalysing digital transformation within organisational contexts. Complemented by the latest research in the field, this text provides a thorough analysis of contemporary organisational behaviour.

Book Synopsis Organisational Psychology in Australia and New Zealand by : Michael P. O'Driscoll
Download or read book Organisational Psychology in Australia and New Zealand written by Michael P. O'Driscoll and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 2003 with total page 448 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Organisational psychology, also know as industrial and organisational (I/O) psychology, is a dynamic and pervasive field within the general discipline of psychology. Organisational psychology focuses on people attitudes, values and behaviours in the domain of work, especially within organisational settings, such as private businesses, government organisations, the military and so on. The field covers a very wide range of issues, ranging from the selection of individual people for specific jobs through to the management of large-scale organisational change and development. Organisational psychologists therefore contribute to a broad array of processes and functions within organisations. While many textbooks relating to organisational psychology are available, almost all of these have been developed in either the United States or the United Kingdom, and hence refer to conditions applying predominantly in those countries. Consequently, although much of the theory and research described in these texts is of a general nature, there is some lack of direct 'practical relevance' to Australian and New Zealand conditions. Furthermore, the considerable amount of research conducted within these two countries is frequently overlooked in other international texts. The purpose of this textbook is therefore, to provide a coverage of essential topics in the field of organisational psychology, as far as possible to introduce research illustrations from Australia and New Zealand, as well as international research in each topic area, and incorporate Australian and New Zealand examples and case studies to illustrate the local relevance of theory and research. Each chapter contains a 'practice illustration' and a case study relating to either Australia or New Zealand. Questions for discussion at the end of each chapter will focus on issues that are directly relevant to students in these two countries.

Book Synopsis Organisational Behaviour: Engaging People and Organisations by : Ricky W. Griffin
Download or read book Organisational Behaviour: Engaging People and Organisations written by Ricky W. Griffin and published by Cengage AU. This book was released on 2020-09-14 with total page 61 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Organisational Behaviour: Engaging People and Organisations uses an integrative model to teach a robust approach to OB by encompassing five levels of analysis: environment, individual, groups, leadership and organisation, and demonstrating how each relates to one another. It teaches a contemporary approach to Organisational Behaviour that aims to understand, rather than control, human behaviour in organisations. Unique to this local edition is the inclusion of a ‘critical perspective’ of Organisational Behaviour introduced through in-chapter features and the end-of-chapter case study. This complements courses that teach mainstream theory and advance through to critical examination of the subject area. This approach presents a side of management that reflects real-world experiences in the workplace by challenging the managerial perspective and discussing issues for employees.
