Book Synopsis Organizing Against Democracy by : Antonis A. Ellinas
Download or read book Organizing Against Democracy written by Antonis A. Ellinas and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2020-01-30 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Organizing Against Democracy investigates some of the most important challenges modern democracies face, filling a distinctive gap in the literature, both empirically and theoretically. Ellinas examines the attempts of three of the most extreme European far-right parties to establish roots in local societies, and the responses of democratic actors. He offers a theory of local party development to analyze the many factors affecting the evolution of far-right parties at the subnational level. Using extraordinarily rich data, the author examines the 'lives' of local far-right party organizations in Greece, Germany and Slovakia, studying thousands of party activities and interviewing dozens of party leaders and functionaries, and antifascists. He goes on to explore how and why extreme parties succeed in some local settings while, in others, they fail. This book broadens our understanding of right-wing extremism, illuminating the factors limiting its corrosiveness.

The themes covered include: managing growth and `Europeanization′; managing decline and crisis; transforming cultures; organization design; leadership, autonomy and control; and organizational learning and change.

Book Synopsis Work Organization and Europe as a Development Coalition by : Richard Ennals
Download or read book Work Organization and Europe as a Development Coalition written by Richard Ennals and published by John Benjamins Publishing. This book was released on 1999-03-15 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Work Organization has achieved recent prominence in European policy, as new employment guidelines are embodied in the policies of all European Member States. New forms of Work Organization, properly understood, offer collaborative competitive advantage to European enterprises. This book, based on decades of action research in separate European nations, identifies the research background from which these new insights and policy initiatives have emerged, with continuing lessons to be learned from differences. Work Organization is the missing link which enables innovation and training to produce sustainable increases in productivity: this is not mere academic theory but also vital practical business. The book launches a new European research agenda, which is attracting interest from across the developed world and beyond. Rather than arguing for a stronger role for the state, or simply leaving matters to the market, the book presents a “third way” based on networks and coalitions, illustrated with numerous current European case studies, which provide explanations for developments at the level of enterprises, regions and the European Union itself. The book provides valuable insights into new European Commission initiatives and Transatlantic Dialogue, and provides the foundations for renewed democratic dialogue.

Book Synopsis A Field Guide for Organisation Development by : Mike Alsop
Download or read book A Field Guide for Organisation Development written by Mike Alsop and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-03-23 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Organisation Development, as a field, is messy, imperfect and hard to get hold of - it is like nailing jelly to the wall. A Field Guide for Organisation Development offers a variety of perspectives and unparalleled experiences from practitioners and researchers who all share an interest and involvement in Organisation Development (OD). In it are multiple voices, mindsets and practices - not all of which necessarily agree with each other. Leading OD practitioners present a contemporary, practical guide that tackles the dilemmas and polarities that face anyone studying or practising within the OD arena, and encourages them to develop their own particular practice of OD in a way that is appropriate for their context, skills and preferences, while challenging them to look beyond what comes naturally. Here are new ways to support the growth and development of an organisation from modest endeavours that are small in scale to organisation-wide change programmes. A Field Guide for Organisation Development is as comprehensive a resource to support the practice of OD as can be found anywhere. It covers issues of organisational health as well as offering tools aimed at supporting practitioners to survive in the harsh realities of organisational life. It contains chapters on the OD practitioner, on groups, on culture, on data and evaluation. It offers perspectives on change, on the relationship between OD and HR, and on the use of external consultants.

The book is tailor-made for business students without any background in the humanities, helping them to conceptualise organisational development and change, and to practically organise interventions to increase organisational effectiveness. The book’s goal is to help future managers and consultants recognise and handle the ‘full situation’, which includes purposes, people and relationships. Furthermore, it elaborates on those theories and instruments that can deliver real benefits to real people working in real fuzzy and complex circumstances, and includes several practical cases focusing on the role of the interventionist.

In a corporate environment increasingly prone to a state of "permanent temporariness", organisation development has become an increasingly powerful tool to use in increasing the amount of responsible freedom workers must have to make choices that will allow them to not only cope but thrive. This book is written in a simple and pragmatic language and book will help students in understanding the very concepts of organisational developments.

Book Synopsis Work, families and organisations in transition by : Lewis, Suzan
Download or read book Work, families and organisations in transition written by Lewis, Suzan and published by Policy Press. This book was released on 2009-07-22 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Across Europe the importance of reconciling paid work and family life is increasingly recognised by a range of diverse government regulations and organisational initiatives. At the same time, employing organisations and the nature of work are undergoing massive and rapid changes, in the context of global competition, efficiency drives, as well as social and economic transformations in emerging economies. Work, families and organisations in transition illustrates how workplace practices and policies impact on employees' experiences of work-life balance in contemporary shifting contexts. Based upon cross-national case studies of public and private sector workplaces carried out in Bulgaria, Norway, Portugal, Slovenia, Sweden, the Netherlands and the UK, this innovative book demonstrates the challenges that parents face as they seek to negotiate work and family boundaries. The case studies demonstrate that employed parents' needs and experiences depend on many layers of context - global, European, national, workplace and family. This book will be of interest to undergraduate and postgraduate students of organisational psychology, sociology, management and business studies, human resource management, social policy, as well as employers, managers, trade unions and policy makers.
