Book Synopsis Application Development for IBM CICS Web Services by : O'Grady James
Download or read book Application Development for IBM CICS Web Services written by O'Grady James and published by IBM Redbooks. This book was released on 2015-01-27 with total page 552 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This IBM® Redbooks® publication focuses on developing Web service applications in IBM CICS®. It takes the broad view of developing and modernizing CICS applications for XML, Web services, SOAP, and SOA support, and lays out a reference architecture for developing these kinds of applications. We start by discussing Web services in general, then review how CICS implements Web services. We offer an overview of different development approaches: bottom-up, top-down, and meet-in-the-middle. We then look at how you would go about exposing a CICS application as a Web service provider, again looking at the different approaches. The book then steps through the process of creating a CICS Web service requester. We follow this by looking at CICS application aggregation (including 3270 applications) with IBM Rational® Application Developer for IBM System z® and how to implement CICS Web Services using CICS Cloud technology. The first part is concluded with hints and tips to help you when implementing this technology. Part two of this publication provides performance figures for a basic Web service. We investigate some common variables and examine their effects on the performance of CICS as both a requester and provider of Web services.

These indicators are typically called "precursors." Accident Precursor Analysis and Management: Reducing Technological Risk Through Diligence documents various industrial and academic approaches to detecting, analyzing, and benefiting from accident precursors and examines public-sector and private-sector roles in the collection and use of precursor information. The book includes the analysis, findings and recommendations of the authoring NAE committee as well as eleven individually authored background papers on the opportunity of precursor analysis and management, risk assessment, risk management, and linking risk assessment and management.
Book Synopsis The Effects of Medical Conditions on Driving Performance: a Literature Review and Synthesis by : National Highway Traffic Safety Administration
Download or read book The Effects of Medical Conditions on Driving Performance: a Literature Review and Synthesis written by National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and published by . This book was released on 2019-08-18 with total page 82 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One factor that distinguishes older drivers from their younger and middle-aged counterparts is a higher prevalence of medical conditions, and the medications used to treat them. Often, the medical conditions that are more prevalent among older people lead to impairments in visual, cognitive, or psychomotor functions needed to drive safely. Similarly, while some medications restore function and improve mobility for those who would otherwise be unable to drive, an array of potentially driver impairing (PDI) prescriptions and over-the-counter medications have been associated with a statistically significant increase in crash risk. The current understanding of how medical conditions can affect driving is based on the opinions of medical (including rehabilitation) professionals or traffic safety experts, or has been derived from simulation research. Other studies have compared the driving records of drivers whose licenses were restricted as a result of reported medical conditions to those of matched controls with the same conditions who had full driving privilege. However, there is a dearth of empirical data about the relationships between medical conditions common among older adults and either performance or safety outcomes of drivers under realistic driving situations. Further, few studies have explored how people with such conditions may limit their driving exposure.

Book Synopsis Why Muslim Integration Fails in Christian-Heritage Societies by : Claire L. Adida
Download or read book Why Muslim Integration Fails in Christian-Heritage Societies written by Claire L. Adida and published by Harvard University Press. This book was released on 2016 with total page 283 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Amid mounting fears of violent Islamic extremism, many Europeans ask whether Muslim immigrants can integrate into historically Christian countries. In a groundbreaking ethnographic investigation of France’s Muslim migrant population, Why Muslim Integration Fails in Christian-Heritage Societies explores this complex question. The authors conclude that both Muslim and non-Muslim French must share responsibility for the slow progress of Muslim integration. “Using a variety of resources, research methods, and an innovative experimental design, the authors contend that while there is no doubt that prejudice and discrimination against Muslims exist, it is also true that some Muslim actions and cultural traits may, at times, complicate their full integration into their chosen domiciles. This book is timely (more so in the context of the current Syrian refugee crisis), its insights keen and astute, the empirical evidence meticulous and persuasive, and the policy recommendations reasonable and relevant.” —A. Book Synopsis Your Money and Your Brain by : Jason Zweig
Download or read book Your Money and Your Brain written by Jason Zweig and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2007-09-04 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Drawing on the latest scientific research, Jason Zweig shows what happens in your brain when you think about money and tells investors how to take practical, simple steps to avoid common mistakes and become more successful. What happens inside our brains when we think about money? Quite a lot, actually, and some of it isn’t good for our financial health. In Your Money and Your Brain, Jason Zweig explains why smart people make stupid financial decisions—and what they can do to avoid these mistakes. Zweig, a veteran financial journalist, draws on the latest research in neuroeconomics, a fascinating new discipline that combines psychology, neuroscience, and economics to better understand financial decision making. He shows why we often misunderstand risk and why we tend to be overconfident about our investment decisions. Your Money and Your Brain offers some radical new insights into investing and shows investors how to take control of the battlefield between reason and emotion. Your Money and Your Brain is as entertaining as it is enlightening. In the course of his research, Zweig visited leading neuroscience laboratories and subjected himself to numerous experiments. He blends anecdotes from these experiences with stories about investing mistakes, including confessions of stupidity from some highly successful people. Then he draws lessons and offers original practical steps that investors can take to make wiser decisions. Anyone who has ever looked back on a financial decision and said, “How could I have been so stupid?” will benefit from reading this book.

Book Synopsis Scenario-based Strategic Planning by : Burkhard Schwenker
Download or read book Scenario-based Strategic Planning written by Burkhard Schwenker and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-12-05 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a world characterized by increasing complexity and volatility, managers must be able to flexibly adapt their strategies to changing environmental conditions. Traditional strategic management frameworks often fail in this context. Therefore, we present "scenario-based strategic planning" as a framework for strategic management in an uncertain world. Previous approaches to scenario planning were complex and focused on the long term, but the approach developed by Roland Berger and the Center for Strategy and Scenario Planning at HHL Leipzig Graduate School of Management is different. By designing appropriate tools and integrating scenario planning into strategic planning, we have made our approach less complex and easier for firms to apply. We illustrate the approach with examples from different industries.
