Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tis text has resulted from some forty years of experience during which the author has puzzled over the meaning of ore textures. Te learning process has been slow and is still incomplete. Te bemusement began directly upon leaving the academic confnes, which in retrospect lef one keen young geologist very ill-equipped to interpret the mineralising process via feld or hand lens style observation of the rocks. Enlightenment has proceeded via a series of events:- 1. Te slow process of feld observation as an industry-based mine and exploration geologist. 2. Te opportunity to visit numerous diferent styles of ore deposit both as an academic and consultant. 3. Te need to answer questions from several generations of enquiring students. 4. Te privilege of being able to conduct research. 5. Te good fortune to be associated with a few top class economic geologists who actually knew what they were doing! Professor Willard C. Lacy deserves the most credit for quietly demonstrating the value of frst principles concerning fuid channelways, combined with an ability to look properly at the t- tures. Despite rapid technological advances this skill remains fundamental both to the practi- ing exploration geologist and to the academic researcher who is interested in understanding ore forming processes. Te fve volumes comprising this presentation were originally compiled individually over a period of eleven years, and aimed to progressively guide the observer though the principles of recogn-i tion concerning infll, alteration, overprinting, and fnally to ore-related breccias.

Book Synopsis Nickel Sulfide Ores and Impact Melts by : Peter C. Lightfoot
Download or read book Nickel Sulfide Ores and Impact Melts written by Peter C. Lightfoot and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2016-08-23 with total page 680 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nickel Sulfide Ores and Impact Melts: Origin of the Sudbury Igneous Complex presents a current state of understanding on the geology and ore deposits of the Sudbury Igneous Complex in Ontario, Canada. As the first complete reference on the subject, this book explores the linkage between the processes of meteorite impact, melt sheet formation, differentiation, sulfide immiscibility and metal collection, and the localization of ores by magmatic and post-magmatic processes. The discovery of new ore deposits requires industry and government scientists and academic scholars to have access to the latest understanding of ore formation process models that link to the mineralization of their host rocks. The ore deposits at Sudbury are one of the world’s largest ore systems, representing a classic case study that brings together very diverse datasets and ways of thinking. This book is designed to emphasize concepts that can be applied across a broad range of ore deposit types beyond Sudbury and nickel deposit geology. It is an essential resource for exploration geologists, university researchers, and government scientists, and can be used in rock and mineral analysis, remote sensing, and geophysical applications. Provides the only reference book to focus entirely on the Sudbury Igneous Complex Brings together an understanding of ore deposit and impact melts as a basis for future exploration Authored by a leading expert on the geology of the Sudbury Igneous Complex with 35 years of experience working on nickel sulfide ore deposits
Book Synopsis Northern Europe Including Examples from the USSR in Both Europe and Asia by : Bozzano G Luisa
Download or read book Northern Europe Including Examples from the USSR in Both Europe and Asia written by Bozzano G Luisa and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 787 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Provides bibliographic and textual information about the principal ore deposits of Northern Europe, plus descriptions of 30 selected deposits from the USSR. Each deposit is introduced by a selected bibliography listing the most important literature followed by a reasonably detailed discussion covering geological characteristics and how the deposit was formed. The general bibliographic introduction to Ireland, Sweden and Finland covers many deposits with insufficient literature to justify separate coverage.
Book Synopsis Annotated Bibliographies of Mineral Deposits in Africa, Asia (Exclusive of the USSR) and Australasia by : John Drew Ridge
Download or read book Annotated Bibliographies of Mineral Deposits in Africa, Asia (Exclusive of the USSR) and Australasia written by John Drew Ridge and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-02 with total page 556 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Annotated Bibliographies of Mineral Deposits in Africa, Asia (Exclusive of the USSR) and Australasia brings together annotated bibliographies of mineral deposits in Africa, Asia (with the exception of the USSR), and Australasia. Each bibliography is followed by notes to show the deposit's location; geological framework; age and type; structural and stratigraphic relations; conditions of formation; and position in the modified Lindgren classification. Comprised of 25 chapters, this volume begins with an introduction to the more important sources of references in the bibliographies, set down in alphabetical order with the number of references provided by each source. The distribution of deposits by continent and country follows. The deposits include molybdenum, nickel, copper, lead, and tin. Eruptive rocks, the metamorphic cycle, and the mineralization process are addressed, along with liquid immiscibility between silicate magmas and sulfide melts; the geology, mineralogy, and petrology of ore deposits in various mines; and the significance of mineralized breccia pipes. This book will be of value to mineralogists, geologists, and earth and mineral scientists as well as students interested in ore deposits.

Book excerpt: This volume provides bibliographic and textural information which gives a real understanding of the 40 ore deposits in Western and West Central Europe. Each deposit is introduced by a selected bibliography listing the most important literature. This is followed by a detailed discussion covering geological characteristics including the position, grade and tonnage of the ore produced together with potential reserve, the stratigraphy and structure of the rocks of the district, and the characteristics and age of the ore body. The book also includes a section of maps, pin-pointing the most important mineral deposits in each region, making this work a valuable reference source for all those working in the fields of ore-deposit geology and exploration.
