Book Synopsis Liquid Based Cytology and Brush Cytology in Oral Lesions by : Nidhi Dwivedi
Download or read book Liquid Based Cytology and Brush Cytology in Oral Lesions written by Nidhi Dwivedi and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2013 with total page 56 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Oral Exfoliative Cytology is a cost effective and perhaps the best procedure for the initial evaluation and diagnosis of oral lesions. It is simple, safe and reliable, especially in population-based screening programs, where repeated samples might be required.Liquid-based cytology, since its inception in the 1990s, has shown significant advantages over conventional exfoliative cytology. Studies in cervical cytology have shown that the LBC reduces the problems related to sampling and preparation of better smears. Blood, inflammation and mucus are reduced and cells are distributed randomly throughout the slide. The clear background thus obtained enhances sensitivity and quality. As compared to conventional smears, the use of liquid-based preparations has shown to greatly reduce the number of slides that are unsatisfactory, or satisfactory but limited by specimen artifacts, diminishing the false negative results. The book highlights the role of liquid based cytology in oral lesions and its comparison with conventional brush cytology.
Book Synopsis Practical Immunocytochemistry in Diagnostic Cytology by : Eugenio Leonardo
Download or read book Practical Immunocytochemistry in Diagnostic Cytology written by Eugenio Leonardo and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-06-08 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides current information for a judicious use of conventional and molecular ICC markers performed in cytologic samples to help in the cost-effective diagnosis of superficial and deep-seated masses. By providing both an eminently practical information for appropriate technical preparation of cytologic samples and a systematic exposure of the immunophenotypic and biomolecular characteristics of normal and pathological cells, the reported morphological-molecular findings highlight the characteristics of different lesions that are useful for the practical solution of a particular differential diagnosis. Chapters include description of the cytomorphology followed by a practical ICC staining pattern for each entity. Cytologic materials include serous effusions, exfoliative cytology, fine needle aspiration cytology of superficial and deep-seated masses, and squash preparation from central nervous system masses. Practical Immunocytochemistry in Diagnostic Cytology serves as a valuable resource towards understanding critical differences between tests performed on tissue samples and those carried out on cytologic samples.

Book Synopsis Case Based Approach in Exfoliative Cytology by : Pranab Dey
Download or read book Case Based Approach in Exfoliative Cytology written by Pranab Dey and published by JP Medical Ltd. This book was released on 2017-02-06 with total page 381 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Exfoliative cytology, which is a quick and simple procedure, is an important alternative to biopsy in certain situations. In exfoliative cytology, cells shed from body surfaces, such as the inside of the mouth, are collected and examined. This technique is useful only for the examination of surface cells and often requires additional cytological analysis to confirm the results (Encyclopaedia Britannica). This book is a comprehensive guide to exfoliative cytopathology presenting 215 real cases supplemented with clinical details and microphotographs. Each case covers a description of the problem, diagnostic criteria and features, differential diagnosis and immunocytochemistry, and treatment options. Divided into eight sections, the book presents cases highlighting cytology in different systems of the body – general, cervical, effusion, respiratory, gastrointestinal tract, urine, cerebrospinal fluid, concluding with a chapter on miscellaneous topics. Cases are presented in multiple choice question format, with detailed answers and suggestions for further reading. Book Synopsis Inflammation and Oral Cancer by : Hiroyuki Tomita
Download or read book Inflammation and Oral Cancer written by Hiroyuki Tomita and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2021-09-01 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Inflammation and Oral Cancer: From Bench to Bedside discusses all aspects surrounding the relationship between inflammation and oral cancer, from basic science to the translational research that helps in the optimization of clinical management strategies. The book discusses topics such as chronic inflammation and cancer in oral cavity, the role of HPV in oral inflammation and cancer, rodent models of oral cancer, and epigenetics in oral inflammation and cancer. This is a valuable resource for cancer researchers, oncologists and members of biomedical field who are interested in learning more about the diverse aspects of inflammation and oral cancer. Inflammation in oral mucosa can remodel the topography of the overlying epithelium. If such inflammation is chronic, it can have fundamental clinical consequences, the principal of which can be premalignant lesions throughout the alimentary tract. Furthermore, mucosal inflammation, even if subtle, is the single most common pathway for oral cancer - therefore it is very important to understand these interactions in detail. Presents animal models of oral cancers for use in research Discusses epigenetics in oral cancers, along with risk factors such as tabaco and alcohol Encompasses detailed information on human papilloma virus (HPV) and its risk in oral inflammation and cancer

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the era of precision medicine, physicians are increasingly in need of more definitive diagnostic, prognostic, and predictive information derived from small biopsy specimens such as cytology samples in order to guide effective patient care. Cytopathology is well poised to meet this challenge. Whilst the traditional cytomorphologic component of cytology practice is still valid, enormous advances have been made in the field of cytopathology thanks to transformative technology and innovative individuals that have augmented the cytologists' ability to meet the demands of modern medicine. The purpose of this book is to describe, illustrate, and review many of the most recent developments regarding modern techniques employed in cytopathology. This latest monograph is intended for all cytologists including cytopathologists, cytotechnologists, cytology lab assistants, trainees, research scientists, and anyone who is interested in the field of cytopathology. We have invited pioneering experts in their respective fields to author these chapters. This book is not only the culmination of their groundbreaking work and effort but also presents a critical review of the current literature. We have attempted to provide readers with an informative and comprehensive aid so that they may better appreciate how emerging technology has been applied to cytology. Each chapter in this book presents a stand-alone contemporary review of emerging topics in cytopathology. We hope that you will find this monograph thought-provoking and a valuable reference for your practice.
