Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The vision of the New International Order emphasizes justice and equality. It also raises profound questions about the nature and future of the relationship between postindustrial and Third World countries. The counterpart system describes one aspect of this relationship: an expert from a postindustrial country teaches a special skill to a Third World national. In this collection contributors draw on political science, economics, education, sociology, history, and communications theory to illuminate the forces that shape the nature of the exchange of expertise between postindustrial and Third World countries. Each author raises theoretical points and offers practical observations about the future of this exchange—a critical point of contact--in the New International Order.

This book was released on 2022-02-17 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This second edition presents an updated action-based curriculum for high school counselors that will meet the needs of 21st century students, helping to foster their growth and engage them in learning what they need to succeed beyond high school. This book takes a comprehensive, developmental approach, focusing on 9th-12th grade students rather than solely on those in 11th and 12th grade. It provides a model for developing and enhancing a successful college advising office as well as essential advice on methods of working with parents. Specific topics discussed include successful transition to 9th grade, using technology in the college and career advising process, assisting and advising students in college research and application, and helping seniors make successful transitions to college. There is also a special focus on students in urban and rural schools to enable them to have the same enriched experiences in their college and career advising program as those students in private and suburban schools. The curriculum is geared for use by school counselors, college advisors, and readers in graduate counseling student courses.

Book Synopsis The Polythink Syndrome by : Alex Mintz
Download or read book The Polythink Syndrome written by Alex Mintz and published by Stanford University Press. This book was released on 2016-01-20 with total page 201 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why do presidents and their advisors often make sub-optimal decisions on military intervention, escalation, de-escalation, and termination of conflicts? The leading concept of group dynamics, groupthink, offers one explanation: policy-making groups make sub-optimal decisions due to their desire for conformity and uniformity over dissent, leading to a failure to consider other relevant possibilities. But presidential advisory groups are often fragmented and divisive. This book therefore scrutinizes polythink, a group decision-making dynamic whereby different members in a decision-making unit espouse a plurality of opinions and divergent policy prescriptions, resulting in a disjointed decision-making process or even decision paralysis. The book analyzes eleven national security decisions, including the national security policy designed prior to the terrorist attacks of 9/11, the decisions to enter into and withdraw from Afghanistan and Iraq, the 2007 "surge" decision, the crisis over the Iranian nuclear program, the UN Security Council decision on the Syrian Civil War, the faltering Kerry Peace Process in the Middle East, and the U.S. decision on military operations against ISIS. Based on the analysis of these case studies, the authors address implications of the polythink phenomenon, including prescriptions for avoiding and/or overcoming it, and develop strategies and tools for what they call Productive Polythink. The authors also show the applicability of polythink to business, industry, and everyday decisions.

Download or read book The Role of Economic Advisers in Israel's Economic Policy written by Daniel Schiffman and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-03-06 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book illustrates the role of international economic advisors in the development of Israel’s economic policies. Based on extensive archival and historical research, it presents case studies on the policy impacts of the world-renowned advisors Michal Kalecki, Abba Lerner, Richard Kahn, Milton Friedman, Herbert Stein and Stanley Fischer. The authors evaluate the contributions of these advisors to policy developments in various fields, including international trade and capital flows, exchange rates, fiscal and monetary policy, industrial policy and labor relations. Readers will discover a wealth of previously unpublished information on these advisors’ activities, perspectives on policy and interactions with policymakers and the public. Using the Israeli experience as a guide, the authors subsequently derive general hypotheses regarding the conditions that are conducive to the success of economic advisors.
