Book excerpt: Modeling and Control of Dynamic Spatially Distributed Systems: Pharmaceutical Processes provides a balanced approach to help readers to get started quickly in the field of biochemical pharmaceuticals. From a theoretical perspective, dynamic spatially distributed systems are introduced to address their industrial applications. After identifying problems, the book provides readers with modeling and control system design techniques via a novel fuzzy set (class of objects with a continuum of grades of membership, to describe the grade of the object belonging to this fuzzy set) and intelligent computation methods. From an application perspective, the book provides a thorough understanding of Good Manufacture Practices (GMP) and the importance of identification, modelling, and intelligent control of such systems, reducing the test-and-error cost, and the R&D design time cycle of original drug development. - Provides an updated, supplemental knowledge to the body of distributed parameter systems - Covers control and analysis framework based on a state-space approach for a non-standard model from industrial complex systems - Presents a novel proposed fuzzy set and applies it to case studies to illustrate its feasibility - Includes a control system design solution from perspective of medicine production
Book Synopsis Applied Optimal Control Theory of Distributed Systems by : K.A. Lurie
Download or read book Applied Optimal Control Theory of Distributed Systems written by K.A. Lurie and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-21 with total page 503 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book represents an extended and substantially revised version of my earlierbook, Optimal Control in Problems ofMathematical Physics, originally published in Russian in 1975. About 60% of the text has been completely revised and major additions have been included which have produced a practically new text. My aim was to modernize the presentation but also to preserve the original results, some of which are little known to a Western reader. The idea of composites, which is the core of the modern theory of optimization, was initiated in the early seventies. The reader will find here its implementation in the problem of optimal conductivity distribution in an MHD-generatorchannel flow.Sincethen it has emergedinto an extensive theory which is undergoing a continuous development. The book does not pretend to be a textbook, neither does it offer a systematic presentation of the theory. Rather, it reflects a concept which I consider as fundamental in the modern approach to optimization of dis tributed systems. Bibliographical notes, though extensive, do not pretend to be exhaustive as well. My thanks are due to ProfessorJean-Louis Armand and ProfessorWolf Stadler whose friendly assistance in translating and polishing the text was so valuable. I am indebted to Mrs. Kathleen Durand and Mrs. Colleen Lewis for the hard job of typing large portions of the manuscript.
Book Synopsis Coordination Control of Distributed Systems by : Jan H. van Schuppen
Download or read book Coordination Control of Distributed Systems written by Jan H. van Schuppen and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-09-25 with total page 393 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes how control of distributed systems can be advanced by an integration of control, communication, and computation. The global control objectives are met by judicious combinations of local and nonlocal observations taking advantage of various forms of communication exchanges between distributed controllers. Control architectures are considered according to increasing degrees of cooperation of local controllers: fully distributed or decentralized control, control with communication between controllers, coordination control, and multilevel control. The book covers also topics bridging computer science, communication, and control, like communication for control of networks, average consensus for distributed systems, and modeling and verification of discrete and of hybrid systems. Examples and case studies are introduced in the first part of the text and developed throughout the book. They include: control of underwater vehicles, automated-guided vehicles on a container terminal, control of a printer as a complex machine, and control of an electric power system. The book is composed of short essays each within eight pages, including suggestions and references for further research and reading. By reading the essays collected in the book Coordination Control of Distributed Systems, graduate students and post-docs will be introduced to the research frontiers in control of decentralized and of distributed systems. Control theorists and practitioners with backgrounds in electrical, mechanical, civil and aerospace engineering will find in the book information and inspiration to transfer to their fields of interest the state-of-art in coordination control.

Book Synopsis Spatial Control of Vibration by : S. O. Reza Moheimani
Download or read book Spatial Control of Vibration written by S. O. Reza Moheimani and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2003 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Vibration is a natural phenomenon that occurs in a variety of engineering systems. In many circumstances, vibration greatly affects the nature of engineering design as it often dictates limiting factors in the performance of the system. The conventional treatment is to redesign the system or to use passive damping. The former could be a costly exercise, while the latter is only effective at higher frequencies. Active control techniques have emerged as viable technologies to fill this low-frequency gap. This book is concerned with the study of feedback controllers for vibration control of flexible structures, with a view to minimizing vibration over the entire body of the structure. The book introduces a variety of flexible structures such as beams, strings, and plates with specific boundary conditions, and explains in detail how a spatially distributed model of such systems can be obtained. It addresses the problems of model reduction and model correction for spatially distributed systems of high orders, and goes on to extend robust control techniques such as H-infinity and H 2 control design methodologies to spatially distributed systems arising in active vibration control problems. It also addresses other important topics, such as actuator and sensor placement for flexible systems, and system identification for flexible structures with irregular boundary conditions. The text contains numerous examples, and experimental results obtained from laboratory-level apparatus, with details of how similar test beds may be built. Contents: Modeling; Spatial Norms and Model Reduction; Model Correction; Spatial Control; Optimal Placement of Actuators and Sensors; System Identification for Spatially Distributed Systems. Readership: Graduate students and researchers in mechanical engineering and control theory.

Book Synopsis Recent Advances in Modeling, Analysis and Systems Control: Theoretical Aspects and Applications by : El Hassan Zerrik
Download or read book Recent Advances in Modeling, Analysis and Systems Control: Theoretical Aspects and Applications written by El Hassan Zerrik and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-08-26 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes recent developments in a wide range of areas, including the modeling, analysis and control of dynamical systems, and explores related applications. The book provided a forum where researchers have shared their ideas, results on theory, and experiments in application problems. The current literature devoted to dynamical systems is quite large, and the authors’ choice for the considered topics was motivated by the following considerations. Firstly, the mathematical jargon for systems theory remains quite complex and the authors feel strongly that they have to maintain connections between the people of this research field. Secondly, dynamical systems cover a wider range of applications, including engineering, life sciences and environment. The authors consider that the book is an important contribution to the state of the art in the fuzzy and dynamical systems areas.

Book Synopsis Optimization in Structural Design by : A. Sawczuk
Download or read book Optimization in Structural Design written by A. Sawczuk and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 601 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Structural optimization, a broad interdisciplinary field, requires skillful combining of mathematical and mechanical knowledge with engineering. It is both intellectually attractive and technologically rewarding. The Symposium on Optimization in Structural Design was the second IUTAM Symposium in Poland. Fifteen years have elapsed since the Symposium on Nonhomogeneity in Elasticity and Plasticity, presided by Professor Olszak, was held in Warsaw. These fifteen years mean a lot for mechanics in Poland. Continuing the tradition of Professor Maksymilian Tytus Huber's research, considerable development of the mechanical sciences has been achieved in this country mostly due to the knowledge, vision and persistence of Professors Wit old Nowacki and Waclaw Olszak, eminent Members of our Academy. The Institute of Fundamental Technological Research was established, competent research groups grew, matured and contri buted to thermo-elasticity, plasticity, general theory of constitutive equations, and to structural mechanics-just to mention a few do mains. Mechanics is now penetrating into the technology of this country at an accelerating pace. The optimization in mechanics has a tradition in Poland. In 1936 Professor Zbigniew Wasiutynski formulated the optimality criterion for mean stiffness design using an elastic energy concept. Further work in this field has been done since, mostly in the last ten years. On behalf of the Committee for Mechanics of the Polish Academy of Sciences I wish to thank the IUTA1V[ Bureau for the decision to hold in Warsaw the Symposium the present volume contains the contribu tions to.
Book Synopsis Computational Methods for Optimizing Distributed Systems by : Charles Teo
Download or read book Computational Methods for Optimizing Distributed Systems written by Charles Teo and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 1984-08-21 with total page 331 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Optimal control theory of distributed parameter systems has been a very active field in recent years; however, very few books have been devoted to the studiy of computational algorithms for solving optimal control problems. For this rason the authors decided to write this book. Because the area is so broad, they confined themselves to optimal control problems involving first and second boundary-value problems of a linear second-order parabolic partial differential equation. However the techniques used are by no means restricted to these problems. They can be and in some cases already have been applied to problems involving other types of distributed parameter system. The authors aim is to devise computational algorithms for solving optimal control problems with particular emphasis on the mathematical theory underlying the algorithms. These algorithms are obtained by using a first-order strong variational method or gradient-type methods.
