Download or read book Terahertz Spectroscopy written by Susan L. Dexheimer and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-12-19 with total page 358 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The development of new sources and methods in the terahertz spectral range has generated intense interest in terahertz spectroscopy and its application in an array of fields. Presenting state-of-the-art terahertz spectroscopic techniques, Terahertz Spectroscopy: Principles and Applications focuses on time-domain methods based on femtosecond laser sources and important recent applications in physics, materials science, chemistry, and biomedicine. The first section of the book examines instrumentation and methods for terahertz spectroscopy. It provides a comprehensive treatment of time-domain terahertz spectroscopic measurements, including methods for the generation and detection of terahertz radiation, methods for determining optical constants from time-domain measurements, and the use of femtosecond time-resolved techniques. The last two sections explore a variety of applications of terahertz spectroscopy in physics, materials science, chemistry, and biomedicine. With chapters contributed by leading experts in academia, industry, and research, this volume thoroughly discusses methods and applications, setting it apart from other recent books in this emerging terahertz field.

Book Synopsis Spectroscopy of Semiconductors by : Wei Lu
Download or read book Spectroscopy of Semiconductors written by Wei Lu and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-07-31 with total page 245 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The science and technology related to semiconductors have received significant attention for applications in various fields including microelectronics, nanophotonics, and biotechnologies. Understanding of semiconductors has advanced to such a level that we are now able to design novel system complexes before we go for the proof-of-principle experimental demonstration. This book explains the experimental setups for optical spectral analysis of semiconductors and describes the experimental methods and the basic quantum mechanical principles underlying the fast-developing nanotechnology for semiconductors. Further, it uses numerous case studies with detailed theoretical discussions and calculations to demonstrate the data analysis. Covering structures ranging from bulk to the nanoscale, it examines applications in the semiconductor industry and biomedicine. Starting from the most basic physics of geometric optics, wave optics, quantum mechanics, solid-state physics, it provides a self-contained resource on the subject for university undergraduates. The book can be further used as a toolbox for researching and developing semiconductor nanotechnology based on spectroscopy.

Book Synopsis Optical Spectroscopy of Laterally Spaced InAs/GaAs Quantum Dot Molecules by : Shilpa Sanwlani
Download or read book Optical Spectroscopy of Laterally Spaced InAs/GaAs Quantum Dot Molecules written by Shilpa Sanwlani and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the past decade, potential device applications have fueled an extensive effort to fabricate lateral arrays of quantum dots (QDs) with specific dot densities, spacings and size distributions. An essential element for the further development of QD devices with new functionalities is the introduction of controllable quantum coupling between two or more QDs in such an array. Tunable quantum coupling between vertically stacked InAs QDs has been demonstrated, with the coupling mediated by coherent tunneling and tunable with a static electric field. While these studies have revealed that the spatial arrangement of QDs can lead to remarkable effects, it will be impossible to scale vertical coupling to a large number of QDs. Investigations of lateral quantum coupling have been slower to develop, however, because special growth protocols are required and the ability to independently tune the luminescence energy of separate QDs is lost. Spectroscopy of single pairs of laterally separated QDs is required to resolve the signatures of quantum coupling from inhomogeneously broadened ensemble spectra. Laterally-coupled quantum dots require modified sample preparation methods to isolate single pairs of QDs and apply electric fields that tune the relative energies of the two dots. The electric field must be applied along the surface of the sample, perpendicular to the growth direction. To apply this lateral field, we use interdigitated electrodes patterned onto the sample surface with photolithography and metal deposition. Electrical connections are made to each of the interdigitated top contacts as well as to an ohmic back contact. This three-terminal arrangement makes it possible to independently control both the relative energies of the dots and the charging of the QDs. We present photoluminescence spectra of laterally coupled QDs whose coupling and charge states are tuned with this three-terminal arrangement. We further discuss the implications and opportunities for control of quantum coupling in laterally-scalable architectures.
