Book Synopsis Reconsidering the Moveable Frame in Psychoanalysis by : Isaac Tylim

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reconsidering the Moveable Frame in Psychoanalysis explores the idea of ‘the frame’ at a time when this concept is undergoing both systematic revival and widespread transformation. It has always been tempting to see the frame as a relatively static, finite and definable feature of psychoanalytic work. At its most basic, the frame establishes agreed upon conditions of undertaking psychoanalytic work. But as this book shows, the frame has taken on a protean quality. It is sometimes a source of stability and sometimes a site of ethical regulation or discipline. It can be a place of imaginative mobility, and in certain analytic hands, a device for psychic work on projections and disavowals. Beginning with a seminal essay on the frame by José Bleger, this book includes commentary on that work and proceeds to explorations of the frame across different psychoanalytic theories. The frame is perhaps one of the spots in psychoanalysis where psyche and world come into contact, a place where the psychoanalytic project is both protected and challenged. Inevitably, extra-transferential forces intrude onto the psychoanalytic frame, rendering it flexible and fluid. Psychoanalysts and analysands, supervisors and candidates are relying increasingly on virtual communication, a development that has effected significant revisions of the classical psychoanalytic frame. This book presents a dialogue among distinct and different voices. It re-examines the state and status of the frame, searching for its limits and sifting through its unexpected contents whilst expanding upon the meaning, purview and state of the frame. Reconsidering the Moveable Frame in Psychoanalysis will appeal to all psychoanalysts and psychoanalytic psychotherapists interested in how best to understand the frame and to use it most effectively in their clinical practice.

Book Synopsis Minorities and Populism – Critical Perspectives from South Asia and Europe by : Volker Kaul
Download or read book Minorities and Populism – Critical Perspectives from South Asia and Europe written by Volker Kaul and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-02-28 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume assembles renowned scholars to address, for the first time, the relationship between minorities and populism in South Asia and Europe from a critical perspective. Despite the very different and to some extent opposite historical and political trajectories, there is today a convergence on nationalist affirmation and on majoritarian politics between South Asia and Europe. In India, the Hindu majority rebels against wide-ranging minority rights anchored in the Constitution. In Europe, the refugee crisis and Islamic radicalization bring to the forefront the postcolonial legacy. Despite all rhetoric, there are obvious dangers of majoritarianism. Populist parties are divisive, partisan, disregard minority rights, engage in lynching, social division, stigmatization and exclusion, turning minorities into second-class citizens. There is a profound structural connection between minorities and the current rise of populism in India and Europe. But there remains a deep perplexity and also anxiety: Does the presence of minorities necessarily have to trigger majoritarian policies? Are there no solutions to this dilemma? Many observers considered multicultural policies and affirmative action programs in India as a possible model for Europe to adopt in order to achieve greater integration. But eventually they seem to have failed. Why so? Are multiculturalism and the recognition of differences still options today? On the other hand, most scholars in India typically reject the European model of liberal democracy and secularism as impracticable in India and locate the reason for the current malaise in the west. But is liberal democracy really so bad in dealing with pluralism? This volume, collecting a selection of the Reset DOC Venice-Padua-Delhi dialogue series, is going to answer two fundamental questions. First, what precisely is the nexus between minorities and populism in South Asia and Europe? Starting from those case studies, the authors will also draw some general theoretical inferences about the nature of populism. Secondly, given the dangers of populism for minorities, the volume will look for the most adequate and feasible solutions.

Download or read book Eranos Yearbook 70: 2009/2010-2011 written by Eranos Foundation and published by Daimon. This book was released on with total page 759 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 70th volume of the Eranos Yearbooks presents the work of the last three years of activities at the Eranos Foundation (2009–2011). It includes the papers given on the theme of the 2011 conference, About Fragility in the Contemporary World, together with talks given on the occasion of the seminar cycle entitled, Eranos Jung Lectures, which took place during the years 2010–2011 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Carl Gustav Jung’s passing. Eminent international scholars gathered to share their work, presented here primarily in English, along with some chapters in Italian. This publication carries additional special meaning in further consolidating the collaboration with the Fetzer Institute by presenting the manuscripts of the Dialogues on the Power of Love, held at Eranos between 2008 and 2011. This project follows the path of the original model of Eranos, especially the aspect of dialogue, searching for understanding and deepening crucial themes in the contemporary world. Contents: 2011 Eranos Conference: About Fragility in the Contemporary World 2008–2011 Fetzer Institute Dialogues at Eranos – The Power of Love: - Love in the Esoteric Traditions - Love in the History of Eranos - Love and Beauty in the Visual Arts - Love and the Social Bond - Love and the Musical Arts 2010–2011 Eranos-Jung Lectures The Greek word ‘Eranos’ means a ‘banquet’, to which every guest contributes. From 1933 onwards, the Eranos Conferences took shape in Ascona-Moscia (Switzerland), springing from the idea of Olga Fröbe-Kapteyn to create a ‘Meeting Place of East and West’. Under the influence of the psychologist Carl Gustav Jung and other prominent leaders of that era, the Eranos Conferences found their way towards symbolical, archetypal, and mythological motifs. The Eranos gathering is symbolized by its famous Round Table, the image and meaning of which inspired many of the leading thinkers of the 20th century. For more than 70 years, depth psychologists, philosophers, theologians, orientalists, historians of religions as well as natural scientists find at Eranos a unique place where they could meet and exchange views. The rich collection of Eranos Yearbooks bears testimony to an immense and original work accomplished in various fields of learning.
Download or read book Behind the Gate written by Fabio Lanza and published by Columbia University Press. This book was released on 2010-08-13 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On May 4, 1919, thousands of students protested the Versailles treaty in Beijing. Seventy years later, another generation demonstrated in Tiananmen Square. Climbing the Monument of the People's Heroes, these protestors stood against a relief of their predecessors, merging with their own mythology while consciously deploying their activism. Through an investigation of twentieth-century Chinese student protest, Fabio Lanza considers the marriage of the cultural and the political, the intellectual and the quotidian, that occurred during the May Fourth movement, along with its rearticulation in subsequent protest. He ultimately explores the political category of the "student" and its making in the twentieth century. Lanza returns to the May Fourth period (1917-1923) and the rise of student activism in and around Beijing University. He revisits reform in pedagogical and learning routines, changes in daily campus life, the fluid relationship between the city and its residents, and the actions of allegedly cultural student organizations. Through a careful analysis of everyday life and urban space, Lanza radically reconceptualizes the emergence of political subjectivities (categories such as "worker," "activist," and "student") and how they anchor and inform political action. He accounts for the elements that drew students to Tiananmen and the formation of the student as an enduring political category. His research underscores how, during a time of crisis, the lived realities of university and student became unsettled in Beijing, and how political militancy in China arose only when the boundaries of identification were challenged.

This book was released on 2024-10-07 with total page 390 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Addressing social inequalities and fostering holistic well-being has never been more pressing. As people grapple with environmental challenges and navigate the complexities of human interactions, the need for a paradigm shift in how businesses are managed becomes vital. Seeking to confront the profound issue at the heart of our societal fabric — the need for organizations, both public and private, to transcend conventional practices— emerges Game-Based Education Approaches to Inclusive Business Management as a tool for change. The book advocates for a transformative approach that integrates game-based learning and working methodologies to instigate a shift towards inclusivity, social responsibility, and overall well-being. Scholars, academics, practitioners, and those passionate about reshaping our societal fabric are invited to contribute to this collective effort, shaping a future where inclusivity and well-being are not mere ideals but integral components of business management. Grounded in the understanding that the fate of our planet hinges not only on environmental responsibility but also on the quality of human interactions within our work environments, this book ventures into uncharted territory. The objective is clear: to dissect the challenges impeding inclusive practices in business management. By melding research with game-based methodologies, the book seeks to uncover solutions that transcend traditional boundaries. It endeavors to examine the complexities of reducing inequalities and fostering inclusivity by delving into organizational, economic, and personal perspectives. The fusion of game-based learning and game-based working emerges as a driving force for promoting organizational well-being, challenging existing norms, and paving the way for a future where inclusivity is not just an aspiration but an intrinsic aspect of business management.
