And more importantly, will Low survive meeting the parents? Oh, the joy of Christmas. A missed connecting flight, inappropriate winter attire, and a kitchen fire...it wouldn't be Christmas without some complications, right? I know Harlow is desperately trying to impress my family, but I'm a lot more concerned about coming up with a proposal worthy of his Hollywood dreams. That is if he doesn't burn the house down first. There's nothing like the holidays with family. Fa la la la la.... ***Operation Meet the Parents is a 25K word novella companion to the full-length novel, Operation Meet Cute. Don't miss this warm and fuzzy, all-the-Christmas-feels, steamy story.

Book Synopsis Rewriting Children’s Rights Judgments by : Helen Stalford
Download or read book Rewriting Children’s Rights Judgments written by Helen Stalford and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2017-11-02 with total page 717 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This important edited collection is the culmination of research undertaken by the Children's Rights Judgments Project. This initiative involved academic experts revisiting existing case law, drawn from a range of legal sub-disciplines and jurisdictions, and redrafting the judgment from a children's rights perspective. The rewritten judgments shed light on the conceptual and practical challenges of securing children's rights within judicial decision-making and explore how developments in theory and practice can inform and (re-)invigorate the legal protection of children's rights. Collectively, the judgments point to five key factors that support a children's rights-based approach to judgment writing. These include: using children's rights law and principles; drawing on academic insights and evidence; endorsing child friendly procedures; adopting a children's rights focused narrative; and using child-friendly language. Each judgment is accompanied by a commentary explaining the historical and legal context of the original case and the rationale underpinning the revised judgment including the particular children's rights perspective adopted; the extent to which it addresses the children's rights deficiencies evident in the original judgment; and the potential impact the alternative version might have had on law, policy or practice. Presented thematically, with contributions from leading scholars in the field, this innovative collection offers a truly new and unique perspective on children's rights.

Book Synopsis A History of Cardiac Surgery by : Ugo Filippo Tesler
Download or read book A History of Cardiac Surgery written by Ugo Filippo Tesler and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2020-01-02 with total page 525 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The beginning of cardiac surgery is generally considered to be the successful repair of a wound of the heart that took place on the 7th of September 1896 in Frankfurt am Main. This operation put an end to the widespread belief that nature had set the heart beyond the limits of surgery. The successive development of heart surgery moved together with other advances that were rapidly taking place in various fields of medicine and surgery and which, already in the first half of the 20th century, had allowed surgical pioneers to successfully correct a number of congenital and acquired heart diseases by adopting closed-heart techniques. Undoubtedly, the most notable progress in the history of cardiac surgery took place between the second half of the 1950s and the end of the 1960s with the introduction of extra-corporeal circulation that allowed surgeons to perform interventions under direct vision within the bloodless heart chambers. This fundamental technological innovation fostered the development of surgical procedures that are still adopted to this day. Among these that must be mentioned are the correction of complex congenital heart diseases, the designing and creation of implantable prosthetic heart valves, the introduction of coronary artery surgery, the repair of severe diseases of the aorta, the commencement of heart transplantation, and the first implantation of an artificial heart. This book narrates these fascinating and sometimes dramatic events, as well as detailing some of the greatest pioneers of cardiac surgery.
