De nouveaux acteurs et pratiques ont bouleverséle processus de conception, mais aussi donné lieu à des succès industriels.Cette approche se répand aujourd'hui à la conception de produits tangibles,à cause de la numérisation et la démocratisation de ce processus -- c'est laconception ouverte.Nombre de pratiques hétérogènes sont cependant regroupées sous ceterme. Les liens avec les pratiques existantes ne sont pas non plus clairementidentifiés. Enfin, peu d'informations à propos du processus de conception ontété formalisées dans la littérature scientifique. Cela freine le développementd'outils pertinents qui permettraient aux concepteurs d'exploiter pleinementles spécificités de la conception ouverte.Ainsi, nous nous sommes intéressés à la modélisation du processus deconception ouverte, dans le cadre du développement de produits tangibles.Nous avons d'abord élaboré une typologie des pratiques via une revue systématique de la littérature. Ensuite, via une approche par théorisation ancrée,nous avons construit des modèles mettant en lumière les différentes facettesdu processus de conception : phases, acteurs, représentations intermédiaires.À travers notre état de l'art, nous avons défini et cartographié la conception ouverte et les notions connexes. Par l'étude de 624 entrées de la base dedonnées Scopus, nous avons identifié trois types de pratiques : do-it-yourself,meta-design, and industrial ecosystem. Elles sont liées au statut (amateur ouprofessionnel) des concepteurs et destinataires du processus. Nous avonsaussi construit deux modèles du 'do-it-yourself open-design' à partir d'interviews semi-directifs de 11 participants à des projets de conception ouverte.Cette approche apparaît influencée à la fois par le logiciel libre et la conception amateur. La qualité de nos modèles et de notre modélisation a été validéepar l'outil statistique.Cette étude ambitionne d'être une référence pour de futures recherchessur la conception ouverte, en proposant un panorama détaillé des pratiquesliées à ce phénomène. Nos modèles descriptifs doivent servir de point dedépart pour développer des outils pertinents à l'intention des praticiens.Notre méthode de modélisation peut également être répliquée dans d'autrescontextes pour formaliser des processus encore non cartographiés.

Dans ce contexte, notre recherche propose un modèle de la phase d’exploration du processus de conception de produits; bien que cruciales pour la suite du processus de conception, les phases amont étaient jusqu’à présent peu décrites, en partie car elles impliquent des opérations cognitives difficilement observables. Notre recherche s’est appuyée sur la mise en œuvre d’un protocole expérimental composé de questionnaires, d’entretiens et de simulations d’activités de conception, réalisé avec la participation de designers professionnels. Cette démarche a permis de décrire les stratégies de recherche d’informations et d’images par les designers dans la phase d’exploration du processus de conception et de montrer que le raisonnement créatif amont s’appuie principalement sur les informations visuelles. L’impact des images sur la créativité en design a ensuite été étudié, en particulier en fonction du secteur d’influence de l’image (architecture, mode...). Il a été montré que la distance entre la source (image inspirationnelle) et la cible (produit à concevoir) impacte la créativité des solutions proposées. Le modèle qui en découle a permis de formuler des spécifications pour le développement d’un logiciel d’aide à la conception créative par la recherche d’images. Notre recherche a été conduite dans le cadre d’un projet de trois ans financé par l’Union Européenne (TRENDS: STREP IST-27916) et a été validée par la réalisation d’un logiciel visant à assister les activités de recherche d’informations et de création des designers, dans la phase d’exploration du processus de conception. Le développement du logiciel a été mené grâce à la participation des designers automobiles, dans la conception et dans les tests des différents prototypes du logiciel.

Afin d'exploiter entièrement le potentiel de l'approche de conception intégrée, la question principale de ce travail est de décrire comment les différents métiers interagissant avec les disciplines impliqués. Dans le systeme CoDeMo (Cooperative Design Modeller), gestionnair d'un modèle produit développé à 38, nous avons exploré les tâches de l'acteur interne, ce qui a permis de fournir une aide à l'equipe de conception, par la gestion de certaines taches: traduction, propagation d'informations, propagation de contraintes et contrôle des cohérences. La deuxième question traité dans ce mémoire concerne l'integration et l'utilisation d'un outil métier spécifique dans l'environnement de travail d'un acteur participent au processus de conception. Nous présentons un modèle qui a pour but de proposer un formalisme continu pour un modèle produit, dans l'activité de conception, dan le cadre de la conception intégrée. Le modèle produit représent une aide pour le concepteur qui participe à une conception parallèle. Des règles ont été incluses dans le modèle produit pour vérifier l'uniformité entre les différents niveaux de descriptions.

Grâce à l'utilisation du modèle, le management de projet de “design augmenté” fut couronné de succès. Cependant, d'autres validations, plus complexes encore, seront utiles pour sécuriser cette modélisation. L'exploitation de cette approche, par la variété de ses supports, doit guider le chef de projet innovant, en PME, dans le processus général d'innovation de rupture.
