Yet you will be drawn to personal events that have been captured by the author’s intent to remain transparent in his approach but true to the surfacing passions and emotions that are all so evident throughout the many passing seasons of his life. How many individuals are hurt from their respective religious assemblies due to church politics, mistreatment by fellow congregants, and abuse of leadership authority simply because of their religious titles? Are you struggling to find balance in your life? Have past relationships hindered you from progressing, making you feel trapped somewhere in between? How has impatience impacted your decision-making? Have you ever truly pondered how often the grace of God is taken for granted? Let’s view the seemingly endless cycles of life through the lens of a man and a minister with a message of hope regarding how God can transition his people from one season to the next!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, the first of a series, Robin D. Gill, author of the highly acclaimed Rise, Ye Sea Slugs! and Cherry Blossom Epiphany, the largest single-theme anthologies of poetry ever published, explores the traditional Japanese New Year through 2,000 translated haiku (mostly 17-20c). "The New Year," R.H. Blyth once wrote, "is a season by itself." That was nowhere so plain as in the world of haiku, where saijiki, large collections called of ku illustrating hundreds, if not thousands of briefly explained seasonal themes, generally comprised five volumes, one for each season. Yet, the great doyen of haiku gave this fifth season, considered the first season when it came at the head of the Spring rather than in mid-winter, only a tenth of the pages he gave to each of the other four seasons (20 vs. 200). Was Blyth, Zen enthusiast, not enamored with ritual? Or, was he loath to translate the New Year with its many cultural idiosyncrasies (most common to the Sinosphere but not to the West), because he did not want to have to explain the haiku? It is hard to say, but, with these poems for the re-creation of the world, Robin D. Gill, aka "keigu" (respect foolishness, or respect-fool), rushes in where even Blyth feared to tread to give this supernatural or cosmological season - one that combines aspects of the Solstice, Christmas, New Year's, Easter, July 4th and the Once Upon a Time of Fairy Tales - the attention it deserves. With G.K. Chesterton's words, evoking the mind of the haiku poets of old, the author-publisher leaves further description of the content to his reader-reviewers. "The man standing in his own kitchen-garden with the fairyland opening at the gate, is the man with large ideas. His mind creates distance; the motor-car stupidly destroys it." (G.K. Chesterton: Heretics 1905)

This book was released on 2012-03-16 with total page 542 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Stephen Shmanske and Leo Kahane have brought together nearly all of the important authors in the quickly growing field of Sports Economics to contribute chapters to this two-volume set. The result is truly informative in its content and path breaking in its importance to the field. Anyone contemplating research in the field of sports economics will find the works in these volumes to provide both ample background in subject after subject and numerous suggestions for future avenues of research. The editors have recognized two ways that economics and sports interact. First, economic analysis has helped everyone understand many of the peculiar institutions in sports. And second, quality data about individual productivity, salaries, career histories, teamwork, and managerial behavior has helped economists study topics as varied as the economics of discrimination, salary dispersion, and antitrust policy. These two themes of economics helping sports and sports helping economics provide the organizational structure to the two-volume set. The reader will find that sports economists employ or comment on practically every field in economics. Labor Economics comes into play in the areas of salary formation, salary dispersion, and discrimination. Baseballs history and the NCAA are studied with Industrial Organization and Antitrust. Public Finance and Contingent Value Modeling come into play in the study of stadium finance and franchise location. The Efficient Market Hypothesis is examined with data from gambling markets. Macroeconomic effects are studied with data from mega events like the Super Bowl, The World Cup, and the Olympics. The limits of Econometrics are pushed and illustrated with superb data in many of the papers herein. Topics in Applied microeconomics like demand estimation and price discrimination are also covered in several of the included papers. Game Theory, measurement of production functions, and measurement of managerial efficiency all come into play. Talented authors in each of these fields have made contributions to these volumes. The volumes are also rich from the point of view of the sports fan. Every major team sport is covered, and many interesting comparisons can be made especially between the North American League organization and the European-style promotion and relegation leagues. Golf, NASCAR, College athletics, Womens sports, the Olympics, and even bowling are represented in these pages. There is literally something for everyone.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Living in a world circumscribed by up-to-the-minute news and electronic tools we barely master before they are out-of-date, we attempt to shield ourselves from environmental events which threaten to overturn our constructed reality. Naturally, in such fast-paced and topsy-turvy surroundings we watch the sky and earth for signs of regularity; looking to the changing seasons for hope and rejuvenation, and seeking out the voices of those who speak of constancy in the changes of the natural world. Hal Borland was such a voice. Every week, beginning in 1941, in the editorial pages of The New York Times he would speak of living on the land—this natural world we all try to understand. In this collection of 365 of his essays, arranged daily within the twelve months, he writes with a familiarity of the ways of the country that is at once humble and resiliently knowledgeable. In Sundial of the Seasons you will find page-long ruminations on such topics as “Fog” (“a unique blend of mood and weather“), “The Bumblebee” (“Bumblebees tolerate man, up to a point”), “Dandelions” (“Neither flood nor drouth seems to discourage it”), and “Fishing” (“The fish caught are only a lesser part of the catch”), all in celebration of the everyday events of life in the country. Begin each day with the gentle wit and wisdom of the person who, for nearly four decades, wrote his “outdoor editorials” in an engaging and inimitable fashion eagerly read by thousands.
