Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wavelet Analysis and its Applications, Volume 1: An Introduction to Wavelets provides an introductory treatise on wavelet analysis with an emphasis on spline-wavelets and time-frequency analysis. This book is divided into seven chapters. Chapter 1 presents a brief overview of the subject, including classification of wavelets, integral wavelet transform for time-frequency analysis, multi-resolution analysis highlighting the important properties of splines, and wavelet algorithms for decomposition and reconstruction of functions. The preliminary material on Fourier analysis and signal theory is covered in Chapters 2 and 3. Chapter 4 covers the introductory study of cardinal splines, while Chapter 5 describes a general approach to the analysis and construction of scaling functions and wavelets. Spline-wavelets are deliberated in Chapter 6. The last chapter is devoted to an investigation of orthogonal wavelets and wavelet packets. This volume serves as a textbook for an introductory one-semester course on “wavelet analysis for upper-division undergraduate or beginning graduate mathematics and engineering students.
Book Synopsis Wavelets Made Easy by : Yves Nievergelt
Download or read book Wavelets Made Easy written by Yves Nievergelt and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-27 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explains the nature and computation of mathematical wavelets, which provide a framework and methods for the analysis and the synthesis of signals, images, and other arrays of data. The material presented here addresses the au dience of engineers, financiers, scientists, and students looking for explanations of wavelets at the undergraduate level. It requires only a working knowledge or memories of a first course in linear algebra and calculus. The first part of the book answers the following two questions: What are wavelets? Wavelets extend Fourier analysis. How are wavelets computed? Fast transforms compute them. To show the practical significance of wavelets, the book also provides transitions into several applications: analysis (detection of crashes, edges, or other events), compression (reduction of storage), smoothing (attenuation of noise), and syn thesis (reconstruction after compression or other modification). Such applications include one-dimensional signals (sounds or other time-series), two-dimensional arrays (pictures or maps), and three-dimensional data (spatial diffusion). The ap plications demonstrated here do not constitute recipes for real implementations, but aim only at clarifying and strengthening the understanding of the mathematics of wavelets.
Book Synopsis Wavelet Analysis with Applications to Image Processing by : Lakshman Prasad
Download or read book Wavelet Analysis with Applications to Image Processing written by Lakshman Prasad and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2020-01-29 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wavelet analysis is among the newest additions to the arsenals of mathematicians, scientists, and engineers, and offers common solutions to diverse problems. However, students and professionals in some areas of engineering and science, intimidated by the mathematical background necessary to explore this subject, have been unable to use this powerful tool. The first book on the topic for readers with minimal mathematical backgrounds, Wavelet Analysis with Applications to Image Processing provides a thorough introduction to wavelets with applications in image processing. Unlike most other works on this subject, which are often collections of papers or research advances, this book offers students and researchers without an extensive math background a step-by-step introduction to the power of wavelet transforms and applications to image processing. The first four chapters introduce the basic topics of analysis that are vital to understanding the mathematics of wavelet transforms. Subsequent chapters build on the information presented earlier to cover the major themes of wavelet analysis and its applications to image processing. This is an ideal introduction to the subject for students, and a valuable reference guide for professionals working in image processing.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume reflects the latest developments in the area of wavelet analysis and its applications. Since the cornerstone lecture of Yves Meyer presented at the ICM 1990 in Kyoto, to some extent, wavelet analysis has often been said to be mainly an applied area. However, a significant percentage of contributions now are connected to theoretical mathematical areas, and the concept of wavelets continuously stretches across various disciplines of mathematics. Key topics: Approximation and Fourier Analysis Construction of Wavelets and Frame Theory Fractal and Multifractal Theory Wavelets in Numerical Analysis Time-Frequency Analysis Adaptive Representation of Nonlinear and Non-stationary Signals Applications, particularly in image processing Through the broad spectrum, ranging from pure and applied mathematics to real applications, the book will be most useful for researchers, engineers and developers alike.

Download or read book Frames, Bases and Group Representations written by Deguang Han and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2000 with total page 111 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work develops an operator-theoretic approach to discrete frame theory on a separable Hilbert space. It is then applied to an investigation of the structural properties of systems of unitary operators on Hilbert space which are related to orthonormal wavelet theory. Also obtained are applications of frame theory to group representations, and of the theory of abstract unitary systems to frames generated by Gabor type systems.

Download or read book Vortex Dominated Flows written by Lu Ting and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2005 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Honoring the contributions of one of the field''s leading experts, Lu Ting, this indispensable volume contains important new results at the cutting edge of research. A wide variety of significant new analytical and numerical results in critical areas are presented, including point vortex dynamics, superconductor vortices, cavity flows, vortex breakdown, shock/vortex interaction, wake flows, magneto-hydrodynamics, rotary wake flows, and hypersonic vortex phenomena. The book will be invaluable for those interested in the state of the art of vortex dominated flows, both from a theoretical and applied perspective. Professor Lu Ting and Joe Keller have worked together for over 40 years. In their first joint work entitled OC Periodic vibrations of systems governed by nonlinear partial differential equationsOCO, perturbation analysis and bifurcation theory were used to determine the frequencies and modes of vibration of various physical systems. The novelty was the application to partial differential equations of methods which, previously, had been used almost exclusively on ordinary differential equations. Professsor Lu Ting is an expert in both fluid dynamics and the use of matched asymptotic expansions. His physical insight into fluid flows has led the way to finding the appropriate mathematical simplications used in the solutions to many difficult flow problems."
